the internet today.

Thank you!

and No.

OP posts:
YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/02/2021 12:10

I've had posts removed from pages 25 and 28 and I have no idea what I said that could have been contentious!

highame · 18/02/2021 12:11

Things are hotting up and I have a feeling that's a good thing Grin

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 18/02/2021 12:13

Ia agree, Highame

It would be good to have more of those sorts of conversations, you know the type where someone makes a statement and ignores the responses, does not reply to direct questions and implies we are not sensible? I believe that is what constitutes a conversation these days.

normanrockwellsaunt · 18/02/2021 12:14

I have been a lurker for years. And wanted to say thank you to all of you who posted on that thread. I saw passion, rigour and clarity: nothing offensive, unless reality is objectionable now. I am in awe of how you express yourselves. Thank you.

Kettlingur · 18/02/2021 12:14

@Ereshkigalangcleg

I think they reserve the right to remove anything contentious whether or not it actually breaks talk guidelines in any objective sense.
And this is what makes rules and guidelines actually meaningless. Women's words will be censored even if they toe the line.

As another lurker I also want to add my thanks. I have been following the thread with great interest and didn’t post as others were expressing the issues far more eloquently than I could. As I am now posting though it is a No from me to!
OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 18/02/2021 12:23

Some of the names appearing with deletions beside them are some of the most measured, articulate, play-the-ball-not-the-person posters on the entire MN site. And still it’s apparently impossible even for them to stay within the moveable feast that is the FWR posting guidelines.

Given that we know at least one poster was boasting on Twitter about their treatment of the uppity women of MN, I suspect the high number of deletions was as a result of a concerted mass reporting campaign against those specific posters precisely because of their ability to distil the essence of the issues we’re up against, in the hope of getting three strikes against them.

LangCleg posted about that cynical behaviour, but I won’t repeat exactly how she described it as she ended up getting banned for it. We remember, though, and we recognise when we see it happening.

ArabellaScott · 18/02/2021 12:25

reality is objectionable now.

If the Scottish Govt gets their hate crime bill through, reality will not just be 'objectionable', it'll be actionable.

Oldstyle1 · 18/02/2021 12:25

The CEO of 50:50 was sent a link to the thread at an early stage but it would be good to resend.

She's clearly up against it and probably doesn't know how the hell to get out of the muddy hole that she has been pushed in to. Perhaps the realisation of how many women would have her back if she came out in favour of biology might give her some courage.

I've got two strikes now :¬((
OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg · 18/02/2021 12:36

Was a better example ever spotted of the 2nd Rule of Misogyny in action?

MaudTheInvincible · 18/02/2021 12:43

@OnlyTheLangoftheTitBerg

Was a better example ever spotted of the 2nd Rule of Misogyny in action?

Nope. It is a perfect illustration, especially all the retro-reporting that's obviously been going on.

Highame said she thought it was a good thing that things are getting hotter. I'm inclined to agree. Keep puullllliiiing!!

Datun · 18/02/2021 12:43

Maya Forstater is on it.

Dalyesque · 18/02/2021 12:58

Is Barracker still around? Also I posted in site stuff about the deletions but nobody has come back from hq yet.

Floisme · 18/02/2021 12:58

I agree with your point Only.
In order to be deleted, you first have to be reported. I think there are some posters who attract more reports than others. It's a kind of compliment but take care out there.

Floisme · 18/02/2021 12:59

I didn't notice Barracker getting any deletions - but that was yesterday.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 18/02/2021 13:02

She did :(

CoffeeTeaChocolate · 18/02/2021 13:06

For someone who claims to listen so much to women, RMW seems to spend a lot of time trying to censor and silence them....

Caketroubles · 18/02/2021 13:10

Which thread is that?

Datun · 18/02/2021 13:10

Barracker posted on here this morning. Interesting thread. Nails the situation.

Whatstheweatherlike · 18/02/2021 13:26

Another lurker here, although I was so upset by the thread that I did post on it. Out of my 4 posts, 2 have been deleted but I've had no emails - does that mean 2 strikes already? All I said was that as a bisexual woman I didn't feel represented or inspired to get involved in politics. I also expressed a hope that many people were reading the thread.

As a lurker I read, research, reflect and always aim to maintain a pragmatic approach. I don't post because I'm still formulating ideas and responses and feel I lack the articulation of many regular posters (I am articulate in daily life, just not yet on these matters!). Yesterday has well and truly opened my eyes in a way that supercedes months of lurking on here. To directly witness the behaviour of someone who genuinely does not give a fuck about the experiences, opinions and arguments of so many well-informed women was astounding. To see the extent of the deletions this morning further secures my realisation that the power imbalance is so unjust. It really has given me a sense of clarity that if I'm honest I've been hesitant to reach.

normanrockwellsaunt · 18/02/2021 13:34

Yes, @Whatstheweatherlike, a real sense of clarity this morning. And actually a sense of having squared something within myself. Of course. It’s about power. It’s always about power. Thank you @Barracker.

You will be emailed if you have a strike, I believe.

You can report your deleted post, and ask why it was deleted, though.

There are so very many, I'm wondering whether or not someone just got a little trigger-happy.

Winesalot · 18/02/2021 13:51

The emails are still coming through too though.

gardenbird48 · 18/02/2021 13:58

it always makes me feel a bit sad when I'm told I've broken the rules - I always try and keep to them (too much generally in my life - I get very anxious about the idea of breaking rules) and it is not a nice feeling when even though I have tried to keep to them, I have failed.

Still, maybe it's a conditioning thing and once I start breaking the rules inadvertently, it will make it easier for me to start breaking more rules in real life Grin Grin.

still a bit :¬(( though
