After the demise of no 4 thread, does anyone think it’s worth reviving or should we rephrase the question? 96%- 4% at the end I think.

I never expected it wouldn’t be like this.

I didn’t anticipate the trans part. But I never had any illusion women had rights or that I was safe. Men rail roading us again and again seems standard to me.

I don’t think I have a point I’m afraid (too tired sorry) but I just don’t find this surprising and I think I find it surprising how many women are so shocked at this.

But once it’s seen it can’t be unseen. And that’s something at least.

I too arrived on FWR via AIBU, a few years back. Which is how I know that there are many, many women who just don’t know what is happening - I certainly didn’t

This was always the plan. Get it all done behind closed doors before the general public realised too late to stop it. Most women either oblivious or think they are safe.

It is exhausting @Langrycleg. Take a break away from it when you need. It can become consuming Smile

It would be interesting to know how much extra traffic has been generated in FWR since those excellent AIBU threads.
I am so glad MN didn't cave in and delete or move them.

Because It is so tiring and goes round in circles I am just reading It now. I do think though that there are lots of AIBUs that would be of general interest to all women not just FWR. The bathroom q is important but for me the loss of language and the teaching of young people is massive. Because of the recent ramp up in Scotland it is going beyond everyday sexism to real threat to women generally and to mothers in particular. I think there is a strong case to be made for a few more aibu topics. Eventually posters may stop reading the current one, as successfully enlightening as it has been. I haven't followed thread 5!
Flowers closely, but has it become a bit bun fighty now?

I missed all of this until last night when I saw this thread. The latest AIBU thread is gone now I think.
Thank you to everyone for all the work it takes.

Ummm!! The message says they think it was started by Lang Cleg (I assume), maybe if we ask, it can be reinstated.

ThanksThanks for everyone- that was a bastard of a thread- I didn't get to the end before it went poof.

The last few threads on AIBU have been brilliant for discussion (and for getting people to actually read through the arguments instead of them cordoning off FWR as "the nasty transphobic corner I heard about on Twitter").

As the most basic question: (AIBU to ask) What is a woman? would be interesting outside of FWR.

Winesalot · 04/02/2021 08:11

In saying that, I saw the thread last night and it was going to be Swiss cheese. There was some very dodgy posts from one brand new poster who looked like they were only there to get it banned and the mask slipped on the other poster who really could not see their contradictory views but basically their perspective was incredibly misogynistic.

Langry thank you. I think we got a very good experiment on just how the word change caused so much commotion. Why? The previous other threads didn’t attract so much.

But changing it to a visible penis in the presence of a teenage girl does stir high emotions. Strangely, the question then becomes more about predatory men than transwomen, but some people don’t see that.

And some of the stories that were coming out about voyeurism and assault in bathrooms were concerning. These were from posters I had not remembered on these boards so maybe don’t post here.

I wonder if we can get it reinstated because they have mistaken the name.

I'm a bit confused (no change there)

Are the four threads (being discussed here) still up for anyone to read or have they all been removed by the management?

I got to around 00:40 last night and had to sleep. Can I ask if you’d gotten past there? Had the tone improved?

There was a new poster directly calling people bigots and shouting the mantra last I saw.

It's been amazing seeing the conversation out into 'the open air' - fabulous work and thank you, it must have been exhausting.

I was starting to wonder if it was time for a different topic, simply because I think people often scroll past thread titles they've seen before. (Well I do.) But if it's still ruffling feathers then that's a reason to keep it going if possible.

Report
Winesalot · 04/02/2021 08:28

And the feathers got very ruffled.

But there were really important experiences being added from victims of these crimes that I had not seen on the previous threads. Of it actually happening. I think it must have been decided then to target it, to make so many delectable posts that it would be pulled.

Because no one wants to have that evidence documented. It needs to remain a frothed up dream of rabid feminists, not a growing list of people where it has happened and been ignored or not released to the mainstream media. Can’t have that at all!!!

Terranean · 04/02/2021 08:30

I was working on a reply to someone saying transmen with a penis would be more dangerous than transwomen without one.
People don’t know what these surgeries involve and how rare they are.

They also need to see Lily Madigan at school picture and the reports on school sexual attacks even before mixed sex toilets were trendy.

I’m in awe at you women!

You got further than me, wines. I only started this morning.

I haven't followed all of them. I'd be tempted to give it a rest. A continuation will call back the same handful of negative aggressive people to continue the bun fight. I'd have a rest, then restart in a month.

Bank your winnings, then try again.

Sorry to derail, I’d just begun reading the thread when it was zapped. But I always think there needs to be energy for more discussion around this, especially an open and frank discussion where there’s no fear to use plain language. If women as a whole lose the energy for this we will end up being erased.

I too think it needs a break. But, it needs to be done again in a month or so.

It really allowed some women a vehicle to tell us about their abuse by males in female toilets and changing rooms. Including a heart breaking on about an 11 year old raped in the ladies at a national trust place.

Report
FemaleAndLearning · 04/02/2021 08:43

I managed to see the thread last night. It was interesting particularly dome if the language and complete lack of empathy towards female victims if male violence.

I think it will be best to follow it up with another question but in a different area like AIBU to expect my daughter to compete against males in female sports. But worded better. Not sure if that has been happening in the UK but I'm sure Fair Play for Women will have info.
I think those who were interested in the question will have come and hopefully learnt something, but for those who didn't they will skip by the question. Let's open people's eyes to other issues?

Report
Winesalot · 04/02/2021 08:47

On this one there was lots of confusion about transmen having penises and whether they would be dangerous etc. lots of misinformation. As usual.

Some of the recounting of the experiences of assault and voyeurism by males in women’s facilities seem to trigger the ‘must get this deleted’ response. They don’t want those posts to stand ... ever. Actual experiences blow the line of ‘a fantasy to ban women who are just different’ completely away.
