Perhaps we can quit with the 'dark money' narrative now.

I was a little surprised to see a grant from Lush Charity Pot in there. Perhaps as a company they aren't a total write off after all.

Ooh, are Lush going to be in trouble with the TRA’s.....?

yourhairiswinterfire · 28/11/2020 12:20

Lush to be rebranded as a right wing murderous hate group in 3...2...1...

Whatwouldscullydo · 28/11/2020 12:21

Oh dear

fatblackcatspaw · 28/11/2020 12:21

I'm amazed but I'm sure Lush will make sure it never happens again... they look in good financial nick.

jj1968 · 28/11/2020 13:36

Wow, that's quite a turnover for an unconstituted organisation that's clearly trading. I wonder how they are registered with HMRC when they don't seem to have any formal structure.

Dogman · 28/11/2020 13:40

You do realise it’s turnover for a nearly three years? Works out less than £50k per annum. About the same as the pta at my kids school.

fatblackcatspaw · 28/11/2020 13:46

ah ok that looks much less... but I think think FWS is probably on a tiny fraction of that....

Don't you love the ever shifting sands of woman hating? When they can't use the "far right, religious bigots funding" old trope it's suddenly "Oooooh, HMRC ......

Grin Grin

Oh well thats fine then. I'll have to try that as an excuse for not declaring my income on my next tax return.
Manderleyagain · 28/11/2020 13:56

Thanks for posting this, it's really interesting. They are so impressive.

I looked up lush charity pot. If I've understood right, they support grass roots organisations from the sale of their 'charity pot' lotion.

titchy · 28/11/2020 13:59

Is there any evidence anywhere that they are tax evaders? Or do you need some gloves for the straws you're grasping at?

yourhairiswinterfire · 28/11/2020 14:00

Grin Glorious!

Not grasping, I have no idea. It just seems strange for an organisation that is trading with a reasonable turnover to not appear to have any formal structure.
OverThinkingUnderDoing · 28/11/2020 14:02

The Lush charity pots are so random. The last time I was in Lush (admittedly about 4 years ago) it was the Guildford branch and they were raising money to find alternatives to the South Devon Bypass. A road that had very nearly finished completion by that point and was in no way related to anything in Surrey.

MichelleofzeResistance · 28/11/2020 14:03

I'm sure anyone concerned for WPUK could contact them to check they're aware of all their obligations. And I'm sure WPUK will be very polite to them and happy to reassure any worries they may have.

Gncq · 28/11/2020 14:06

I'm sure WPUK pay taxes if taxes are due, and it's obvious they aren't funded by the religious far right, so both accusations are dead in the water, shall we move on now?

WeeBisom · 28/11/2020 14:10

What, exactly, is the problem with their funding? I imagine, seeing as they are not a charity, they are an unincorporated association - in other words, they manage their finances in exactly the same way as political parties, clubs, and societies.

MichelleofzeResistance · 28/11/2020 14:12

There's less actual suspicion about their funding than a desperation to discredit them and prevent their words and actions having impact by slinging any and all mud at them in the hope that something might stick.

DialSquare · 28/11/2020 14:14

This has just reminded me to make another donation. Thanks. Before anyone asks, I have only ever voted Labour (although politically homeless atm) and have no affiliation with any far right groups. Just a concerned woman with a decent disposable income willing to support causes focused on women and children.

calllaaalllaaammma · 28/11/2020 14:14

Charities don't pay tax on most types of income as long as they use the money for charitable purposes.

SophocIestheFox · 28/11/2020 14:15

Classic bait and switch, JJ. Classic 🤣

“These GC groups are funded by the far right!”

WP publish details of funding and spending. No shady far right connection appears.

“I bet they aren’t paying their taxes!”

Fucking hell. It won’t take long before that’s an article of faith, too.

Anyway, returning to something far less boring than smearing, it tickles me immensely to see Lush on there Grin

OvaHere · 28/11/2020 14:15

I thought it was great they've donated excess money this year (due to no physical meetings) to women's services. They are also encouraging their supporters to due the same during Covid in lieu of donating to them.

jj is the poster, who, when I assured them for the sake of complete clarity that I wouldn't be attempting to report any of jj's hate incidents, read it as the total opposite - a threat that I would.

You can't say black is black without jj making some insinuation that it's white after all, unless the wrong people say it's white, in which case perhaps it's green and we can never really know, maybe do a Twitter poll?

(I say this in the spirit of community debate based on jj's posts, not as a character assassination or anything)

SophocIestheFox · 28/11/2020 14:17

I liked that, too ova Smile
