Perhaps we can quit with the 'dark money' narrative now.

I was a little surprised to see a grant from Lush Charity Pot in there. Perhaps as a company they aren't a total write off after all.

jj: they're dodgy because A.
MN: no you misunderstand A is legitimate because.....

jj: then they're dodgy because B.
MN: no you misunderstand B is something different

jj: then they're dodgy because C.
MN: no C is a legitimate response to ....

Seriously jj I'm embarrassed for you 🤣

jj1968 · 29/11/2020 14:47

@Clymene

That's being defamed and seeking legal advice then as Treestumps said.

So there is no evidence that they're being funded by the American far right, no evidence of funding at all really.

I mean do you accept that now @jj1968? That the accusation that they are a) has no foundation and b) is a deliberate attempt to smear?

I have never once made that accusation. I think it's probably quite likely that some of the money raised by the GC movement has come from the religious right, and things like crowdfunding campaigns are easy to mask that. That's the thing about dark money, no evidence trail. There has certainly been a lot of legal support that has come from the religious right, Paul Conrathe has never been busier.

But I've never made any claims about WPUK funding. And I don't think speculation is necessarily an attempt to smear. When a host of organisations appear which appear to be drawing significant funding and which are not formally constituted or publish audited accounts then I think it's inevitable that people will speculate about where it came from. And we know the US religious right supports GC activism, and they have surreptitiously funded movements they support before, so it's not particularly surprising some have questioned whether that is happening now.

I thought she'd [Allison Bailey] given up her case. It will have timed out anyway now I think if she hasn't filed.

You love to spread misinformation don’t you? You don’t need to look far to confirm she hasn’t; try her Twitter profile.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 29/11/2020 15:01

And non of that is you making any changes conjectures?

As I said, clueless....whether contrived or honest!

fatblackcatspaw · 29/11/2020 15:07

@MoonPomme

"Unless Lush is actually a Nazi group disguised as a soap factory?" I think you might be into something Grin Has anyone thrown a fit at lush yet for funding a hate group?
thank god I've been preemptively boycotting them already!

Were you equally suspicious when it was revealed that a political party took a substantial donation from a pharmaceutical company that manufactures puberty blockers ?

She hasn't mentioned it for ages and I think discrimination cases have a six month time limit. I took her tweet in September saying that she wouldnt be raising money through crowdfunder and that she would contact people if she needed money for this case or any other to mean she's pretty much given up on it, given its probably timed out and she hasn't put out a new appeal. Happy to be corrected though.
Deltoids1 · 29/11/2020 15:20

doesn't appear to have any legally binding structure or properly audited accounts.

JJ, you obviously have zero experience running an not for profit organisation. If you did you will know that community organisations like WPUK, local football clubs, the old folks lunch club etc have to have a constitution to be able to open a bank account.
They don’t have to have audited accounts as it’s a. very expensive and b. not required in law for such organisations.

Deltoids1 · 29/11/2020 15:21

To add, the constitution is the legally binding document which all officers and members must adhere to.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 29/11/2020 15:27

Nothings bugging me really except that its unusual that an organisation with such a high turn over, that pays fees, doesn't appear to have any legally binding structure or properly audited accounts.

They'd need a turnover of £10m before the audit requirement kicked in, and £1m as a registered charity. I think (sadly) WPUK is a fair way off needing audited accounts.

Aesopfable · 29/11/2020 15:27

It may come as a surprise to you that there is a wait for things to come to court and that this wait has grown somewhat due to Covid...

Oxyiz · 29/11/2020 15:31

Whats next? Insulting their hair perhaps? Running to tell the headmistress that they're wearing non regulation skirts?

MichelleofzeResistance · 29/11/2020 15:42

Quite. And I feel compelled to ask if anyone has questioned properly whether they have cooties yet?

MichelleofzeResistance · 29/11/2020 15:45

Could Lush be mixed up with the Regan funded nuns?

I've been wondering about the nuns for years. Making soap might be quite a nice occupation for them really, while waiting to.... do whatever nuns do when unleashed. Cheerful community singing possibly?

SophocIestheFox · 29/11/2020 15:46

They wear mismatched socks, I heard.

And Ruth S returned a library book late in 2001.

They’re complete outlaws.

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 29/11/2020 15:48

So no shady money then?

Ok so now it’s the turn of the other charities and organisations who definitely don’t get money from big business, bigger pharma, and shady characters with a vested interest...

ShockShockShock Well that's it then. I hereby withdraw my support and proffer my abject apologies for supporting such a bunch of dastardly rapscallions.

Quite. And I feel compelled to ask if anyone has questioned properly whether they have cooties yet?

I feel you always manage to get right to the heart of the matter MichelleofzeResistance, and this incisive question is no exception.

334bu · 29/11/2020 15:55

The world according to jj:
Ok then WPUK is maybe not funded by Christian Right but some other groups must be . Oh wait they aren't either but they're funding crowdfunders and if they aren't, they could be and then there's that wee wummin down the street who may or may not have once gone to church and she put £5 into the pot so that proves that all women supporting women's rights to single sex spaces are all raving right wing Christian conspiracy theorists.

I was also told by someone (you won't know them, they went to a different school) that WPUK steal toys out of the hands of babies and then bathe in their distraught tears 😞
SophocIestheFox · 29/11/2020 16:09

Fucking hell, is there no end to their criminality? Shock

I also heard that they cross the road against the lights, and they don’t sort their recycling properly. I know this because Fred Phelps told me (he doesn’t go to your school either)

Tanith · 29/11/2020 17:30

"Ok so now it’s the turn of the other charities and organisations who definitely don’t get money from big business, bigger pharma, and shady characters with a vested interest..."

This sudden accusation of financial irregularity does make me wonder if there's an element of deflection going on.

Oh, and those ticket sales jj. Are you aware that Stonewall UK's ticket sales for 2019 (that's just one year) was £591,460?
Better take a look at their financial statements and you can happily question why the Scottish Government felt compelled to pay them £100,000, the Department of Education coughed up nearly £300,000 and why Merrill Lynch donated £36,695 in 2018.

StillAFeminist · 29/11/2020 17:58

JJ1968 jayus feels like the women on this thread are working overtime to provide education on this

There is a time limit for lodging a discrimination complaint. That is very different to having to get the case through the courts. As would be obvious when you think about it. Complainants have no control over how quickly the court process works.

More info @ www.equalityhumanrights.com/en/advice-and-guidance/time-limits-discrimination-claims

As I said earlier on this post wrt WPUK Hmm there is nothing untoward about the way Alison is handling herdiscrimination claim and crowdfunder

SciFiScream · 29/11/2020 18:33

I love the posters sharing their knowledge of important matters.

Thank you.

jj - this is seriously bottom of the barrel-scraping stuff here.

My kids' school fete makes more money than WPUK does per event.

I went to the last big event before lockdown and there were about 1000 women there. The only surprise is that they manage to pull off such incredibly professionally-managed events, with such an incredible range of top speakers, for such tiny sums.

And no, I have no objection to speakers being paid, either. If that's their livelihood, it would seem pretty outrageous to expect them to give up time for free. All the speakers I saw on the day were excellent.
