Perhaps we can quit with the 'dark money' narrative now.

I was a little surprised to see a grant from Lush Charity Pot in there. Perhaps as a company they aren't a total write off after all.

I love a demand to “educate myself” Grin

I did! I’m not sure that the activist in question who urged me to do so back in the halcyon days of 2014 or so quite expected where I would end up as a result of that education.

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 01/12/2020 10:08

I think ‘educate yourself’ might actually have been an even bigger own goal than ‘no debate’ Grin

Pahrump · 01/12/2020 10:12

The self-ownage on this thread is immense 😆

are we sure jj isn't deep undercover gc, playing the bad cop role to help to tease out the evidence and arguments??

It has been a useful reminder what amazing work these organisations are doing and to mark Keira's Day (I'm keeping everything crossed - minutes away now), I will donate to them - it sounds like it will be needed in general whichever way the verdict goes.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/12/2020 10:20

Yes, I think it is to do that, and to totally derail the meaningful discussion on the topics at hand and make women talk about whatever the bad-faith poster wants.

Generally speaking, the only way to avoid this on any forum is for people to scroll past disruption and not engage.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 01/12/2020 10:21

A trajectory followed by many women.

Thats the only explanation that would make sense Confused

The sheer length and pomposity of the screeds says no.
Female socialisation doesn’t allow us to make those kinds of demands on a reader’s time!

Winesalot · 01/12/2020 10:30

It is the 'educate yourself' inference, followed by the 'I haven't bothered reading what you are talking about, I just knows cos I read it on twitter that they must be wrong. Everyone on twitter there agrees and they have not read it either.'

I have even seen two posters refer to 'Irreversible Damage' as being hateful and full of misinformation. Yet, they have not read it and don't intend to.

I am surprised after the last week or two of these wild claims that keep getting proven false or unfounded that they feel they have any credibility. It must be hard to also discover that sometimes even their chorus line cannot back them up.

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 01/12/2020 10:35

Ooh, quick tangent but that reminds me, a detransitioner (FtMtF) has been reading and reviewing the Shrier book chapter by chapter:

P*nk News have an article about the Lush grant donotlink.it/ML2ZJE

Winesalot · 01/12/2020 17:52

Lush is trending and the outcry is very loud!

Purity spiral .... tightened!

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/12/2020 17:52

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer bunch of lads.

BettyDuKeiraBellisMyShero · 01/12/2020 18:27

To be fair, the following is not bad in terms of not backing down nor scratching around desperately for an insincere apology

^“To make our stance clear, we do not believe that trans rights are a threat to women’s rights. Our belief is that a decent society should be able to structure itself to give rights and protection to all who need it.
Those who are on the margins should not have to fight other marginalised groups to get the protections they deserve and have a right to – we should all be fighting together for a world free from discrimination of any kind, where all people can live their life to its fullest potential in peace and free from fear. We hope our charity pot grants will always continue to contribute towards this vision.”^

Shame lush were too far down the purity spiral plug hole for this to make any difference.

Makes you wonder if their previous ‘Fuck off boring old cunty women’ position has affected their profits...

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 01/12/2020 20:07

I suppose if the kiddos get riled up in sunny delight and haribos they will kick off again on the morning.

VulvaPerson · 01/12/2020 20:22

There are thousands of posts on this forum discussing trans supportive organisations, but one trans person has the nerve to discuss a GC organisation and apparently it's none of my business and misogyny.

Fairly sure noone would have a issue on 'discussing' a GC organisation. Its..well the way it happens. Just endless accusations, sometimes even arguing the opposite of a previous point, the constant shifting of goalposts and such. Its really weird to watch. Given how strongly concerned you are about WP paying taxes, or getting a 5 quid donaton from someone far right, or apparently hiding their board and such..or whatever your issue is right now, I really think yo should be reporting them to HMRC, or whoever is resposible for that particular compaint. If I was so sure about something, as sure as you appear to be (though which point you are sure of we don't know) I would certainly do this. Though of course still, you don't care about them at all. Nope. I expect you would not want to waste your own time reporting a group that you have so little interest in though, even though you seem extremely interested in them.

Yes. In the words of my Nanna,

‘Shit. Or get off the pot.’

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/12/2020 08:26

Shockingly, the group suggested it was unaware of the identity of one of the donors, and that the funding was “currently quarantined pending verification”. So, amongst other similarly convoluted witterings, PN finds it shocking that any organisation would temporarily freeze a deposit whilst they look at who it is from? My how they choose to mangle words! Does anyone actually fall for this any more?

Having said that, the tone and phrasing of some of that article sounds very familar... I wonder if someone here is also someone there? Or is it just one of those "We Are Borg" things?

DickKerrLadies · 02/12/2020 09:16

Or is it just one of those "We Are Borg" things?

OMG yes! That's what the constant sound-bites reminds me of!

Thank you.

yourhairiswinterfire · 02/12/2020 13:27

Didn't Pink News get sued for their bullshit before? You'd think they'd have learned to wind their necks in a bit.

well yes I do wonder how many mums are putting their foot down when teenage daughters want lush stuff?
Kazzyhoward · 02/12/2020 13:29

The lack of clarification over formal structure is pretty worrying. To comply with HMRC, company law and/or charity commissioner rules, it MUST have some kind of formal legal structure. Those "accounts" aren't really accounts at all - even the smallest/simplest of registered charities need to present accounts in a formal format. Nor is there any sign of a formal audit or independent review of the accounts (which may be required dependant upon legal structure). It all looks to be an amateur bodge job.

fatblackcatspaw · 02/12/2020 13:31

if I can't sleep any night soon I'm hopping on to read the collected boring posts of JJ

Deltoids1 · 02/12/2020 13:32

Lolz Kazzy
If you take the time to read the thread there is plenty of posters carefully explaining the situation.
