Woman's Hour 20 October: Has Mumnset become too politicised?

I assume this is about the the audacity to criticise the gender identity ideology. I wonder if they'll have a proper discussion. Remember that Jenni Murray only felt free to talk only as she was walking out of the door.

shes talking about how mn has been a space to discuss concerns with the gra...

MarshaBradyo · 20/10/2020 10:32

Good section thanks to author

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2020 10:33

Re the GRA, JG said that WH being BBC can't take a side and so cant discuss things in the same way as mn.

We are the "The resurgent women's rights movement!" Says the prof!

megletthesecond · 20/10/2020 10:33

She's doing a good job I think.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2020 10:33

We don't like to be told no debate!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/10/2020 10:34

And the qualifier made (by Garvey).

InflamatoryWrit · 20/10/2020 10:34

Oh the T word...

glomerulus · 20/10/2020 10:34

Sarah Pedersen is fab here. Really covering the issues in a very clear way.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 20/10/2020 10:34

We research and present arguments to each other. 👍👍👍

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/10/2020 10:35

I liked that she mentioned the Fawcett and Creasy Bill.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2020 10:36

J makes the qualifier but she always makes it clear she's saying "some people think..." I can tell she doesn't think that by the ways she says it.

This is a great section. Absolutely details what I see on MN.

Clymene · 20/10/2020 10:37

That was a surprisingly good piece

YetAnotherSpartacus · 20/10/2020 10:38

Fair enough. I am sure that BBC Big-Brother is listening in and watching out for wrongthink.

nauticant · 20/10/2020 10:38

What a change it is to hear someone speak positively about Mumsnet on the BBC. Was Jane Garvey's lack of criticism sympathy or just making sure the discussion swerved around the more controversial issues?

AbsintheFriends · 20/10/2020 10:39

I think that might have been Woman's Hour sending out the bat signal to women from behind their BBC gag, to get themselves over to MN and find out about the shitshow unfolding behind the rainbow smokescreen.

Destinysdaughter · 20/10/2020 10:39

That was v good but how dare JG call Filia etc transphobic. FFS.THAT is the difference between MN and WH!

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2020 10:39

I am sure that BBC Big-Brother is listening in and watching out for wrongthink.

Oh without a doubt.

I wonder if mn will get a load of extra people joining after that awesome advert?!

Destinysdaughter · 20/10/2020 10:41

I do hope that makes some women curious about MN, as it did make it sound rather interesting Smile

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2020 10:41

Definitely a bat signal!

gardenbird48 · 20/10/2020 10:41

absolutely. Listening to that, if I wasn't already here, I'd be on my way over :¬))

I wonder if there is any way to find out if MN sees any impact on the traffic over the next few days?

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2020 10:42

I'm really glad Prof emphasised the detailed step by step support abused women can get on mn.

GlomOfNit · 20/10/2020 10:43

Heh, that was a bit of a non-event in the end, really. Grin
Jane Garvey going 'yeah yeah, it's great!' and virtually no tiptoeing around the big elephant.

Destinysdaughter JG didn't call any groups transphobic! She was very careful to say 'some people have said..' etc. I think it's fairly clear where her sympathies lie, and it has been for some time now. Another reason I'll be really sad to see her go.

JulesJules · 20/10/2020 10:44

I thought that was good. Would have liked a bit more of a rebuttal re: they're all transphobic - perhaps pointing out that accusation is used as a way of trying to shut women up - and that MN and their advertisers have been targeted with that objective.

Destinysdaughter · 20/10/2020 10:44

Time for this methinks!

I thought Sarah Pederson was very insightful abd Jane Garvey managed to ensure that the piece could not be presented as biased. I liked the way Sarah Pederson described women going to what they thought were organisations sympathetic to women's rights and not being listened to and called names.

Her book is probably the official biography of Mumsnet!
