Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Woman's Hour 20 October: Has Mumnset become too politicised?

I assume this is about the the audacity to criticise the gender identity ideology. I wonder if they'll have a proper discussion. Remember that Jenni Murray only felt free to talk only as she was walking out of the door.

Apologies to the author if I jumped to a conclusion about what the segment would be like.

PearPickingPorky · 20/10/2020 20:22

bluestocking

Oh, hang on. Isn't that the name of the mumsnet bar? And also Helen Lewis' newsletter? Any connection?

Talking of which, we haven't had a Bluestocking thread for fucking ages.

Anyone fancy a socially distanced, tables of no more than 6, Bluestocking?

The goat has been covid tested and the patriarchy busting canon polished up to remove all possible virus traces from its surface.

EvenSupposing · 20/10/2020 20:29

I meant MN FWR Bar. Where we serve ironic sexually named cocktail as a massive fuck you to the patriarchy.

DeliciouslyFemale · 20/10/2020 20:48

I haven’t listened to it yet, but I guarantee it won’t be as enjoyable as this thread has just been. The wonderful feminist woman of Mumsnet never failing in their intelligent and witty discussions. YOU LOT ARE WHY I GET NO BLOODY WORK DONE! 🥂

Pluckedpencil · 20/10/2020 21:05

I must agree I enjoyed the meta thread on the meta interview the most!! Thanks all, but especially my new heroine Sarah Pedersen!!
I do feel rather sorry for woman's hour and JG. I feel they have bene gagged to avoid controversy and chime with the current London fashion of trampling hard on feminists (and therefore women).

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2020 21:09

I'm linking this thread as the "some people" comment has spun out and become quite damaging.

Bbc need to recognise that trying to be "fair" isn't always actually fair.

So where do I put my money in order to get this kind of slander brought into the daylight once and for all? Surely there is a procedure that these organisations can follow, an ombudsman or something? It was a completey biased smear on these organisations, a smear that doesn't happen to the more controversial Stonewall. And frankly, I felt the names of the organisations were shoehorned into the conversation in order to make this point, as they have no affiliation with Mumsnet at all as far as I am aware?

As Sarah Pedersen has been here 18 years, she will have been here when FWR was formed as MNers were 'feministing' all over the boards.

It upset "certain types".

God, how dare they feminist!

Females should be seen and not heard to talk about anything other than nappies and jam.

persistentwoman · 21/10/2020 09:32

I started the book last night. It's fascinating. And yes - certain posters are mentioned. I've already spotted Datun.

NeurotrashWarrior · 21/10/2020 10:15

Shock wow she's really been in the thick of it!

Jux · 21/10/2020 13:44

Seems that Woman's Hour presenter has become a poisoned chalice. I suspect the next presenter (or maybe the one after) will be TW, and then it'll be Trans Hour, and then it will become Men's Hour, then Fishing Hour.

MichelleofzeResistance · 21/10/2020 14:53

Well whichever one of you is Sarah, please have a Wine on me. I've been admiring many of the brilliant women here for years, FWR is full of them.

NeurotrashWarrior · 22/10/2020 08:19

And one from me! Wine

I vaguely remember a thread asking about how we ended up here with many agreeing "came for the babies, stayed for the feminism." In fact, wasn't that under an official research request? I remember us doubting her then mnhq verifying it.

Overfifty · 22/10/2020 08:24

Actually, it wasn't about gender identity but a really interesting conversation that spurred me to log onto mumsnet!
