Supported by who else but NSPCC.

Adults can buy a single ticket.

Attended by convicted paedophile

Unbelievable.

Apparently it's not true that the NSPCC are supporting it.

VortexofBloggery · 24/09/2020 12:17

Doesn't surprise me there are denials and or lies being told:

"We have a robust child and vulnerable adults safeguarding policy - it’s actually rather ignorant of the complainers to assume that we don’t. It was developed in conjunction with the NSPCC and is reviewed annually."

OP posts:
zanahoria · 24/09/2020 12:25

what does "in conjunction with" precisely mean and who does the reviewing?

SerenityNowwwww · 24/09/2020 13:34

Is this true?

I saw it on twitter and it (the NSPCC involvement and their supposed tweets - something about not having time to focus on children because they were too busy focusing on lgb+...) didn’t seem right at all.

Comefromaway · 24/09/2020 13:37

No big deal.

These naturist swims have been happening for YEARS, at least since the 1980's. Before Waterworld they used to be held in the old Jubilee baths in Newcastle.

CallarMorvern · 24/09/2020 13:38

There's a Twitter reply from Peter Wanless saying this is fake news and not an appropriate or correct reference to us (the NSPCC). I can't get the screenshot to attach, not sure why.

Datun · 24/09/2020 13:44

"We have a robust child and vulnerable adults safeguarding policy - it’s actually rather ignorant of the complainers to assume that we don’t. It was developed in conjunction with the NSPCC and is reviewed annually.

But as long as a paedophile, a known paedophile, registers as an official nudist, he can come in?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 24/09/2020 13:46

Well, of NSPCC helped them in their safeguarding then we can sure it’s dodgy.

Datun · 24/09/2020 13:46

Robert Platts, defending, said Enright had joined British Naturism in July 2006, a month before the sex order came into force.*

The court heard that he was arrested after police attended his home in June 2008 and discovered he was a member of the British Naturism.

Further investigations revealed that he had been on outings with the group to Alton Towers and Waterworld in Stoke-on-Trent.

Why the fuck is it more important for a bunch of people to skinny-dip, than it is to prevent paedophiles leching at them?

Comefromaway · 24/09/2020 13:48

Good luck in getting Mop Chaudry to change his mind. He's been working with naturists for years.

SurrogacyIsModernDaySlavery · 24/09/2020 13:50

The naturists membership policy needs to be that convicted pedophiles are expelled. On every of my neighbours was convicted of a historical offence. All local sports clubs expelled him as a member immediately on the verdict.

I'm still uneasy about the nude swims as I'm not convinced children are able to freely consent but that's a different problem.

They also need to restrict tickets to families.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/09/2020 13:51

The fact that things have been done in the past is no argument for them to continue in perpetuity.

I've no issue at all with adult naturism, or families doing as they wish in private.

But isn't there a problem with this sort of event that the children haven't - can't - give meaningful consent? No doubt the parents have innocent motives for their families attending but it is naive in the extreme to assume that applies to everyone.

Goosefoot · 24/09/2020 13:53

I guess an unknown paedophile could, but isn't that true of a lot of things? They can go to the regular beach too where people are as good as naked, or in places where nudity at the beach is more common.

A known one would likely have restrictions on being around kids at all.

Comefromaway · 24/09/2020 13:56

Well all I know is that every year for the past 2/3 years a handful of vigilantes have turned up waving banners and spouting off that all naturists are paedohiles and nothing happens. Waterworld isn;t exactly the cleanest place in the world but there are cameras etc anywhere.

Naturist families tend to have naturism as a way of life. Their kids grow up with it.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/09/2020 13:59

I would be slightly more believing of the innocence of this, if it was only families swimming. As far as I can tell it is also open to men and women swimming without children which is disturbing. What non-dodgy reason could a man have to go to a naked family swim at a water park?

Hyperfish101 · 24/09/2020 14:03

Sorry it’s weird in this day and age. And yes, paedophiles gravitate towards nudist events.

Kanaloa · 24/09/2020 14:07

I don’t get nudism in general so wouldn’t understand why swimming naked is any better/more fun than swimming with a costume on.

I would think it a bit odd if a single adult bought a ticket to a nude family swim. Maybe they should have family sessions and adult only sessions or something.

ErrolTheDragon · 24/09/2020 14:08

A known one would likely have restrictions on being around kids at all.

There's an example in the OP of one who had restrictions but was allowed to attend anyway.

MoltenLasagne · 24/09/2020 14:09

I don't have a problem with a naturist swim per se but if you have tickets for single adult entry it should be adults only. If its for families then only families should be able to purchase tickets.

TinselAngel · 24/09/2020 14:10

Apart from all of the obvious concerns- bare bums on the water slides? Envy (not envy).

Jaxhog · 24/09/2020 14:18

If it's ONLY families - OK
If it's ANYONE - not ok

Exactly

Nudist events have a lot of sanitation related issues.
JulieBindelAteMyHamster · 24/09/2020 14:25

Yeah, cos family members never abuse children, right? And family members would never get off on a swimming pool full of naked kids, right?

TinselAngel · 24/09/2020 14:34

I can't understand why the dubious joy of rubbing your bare bum around on water slides with other like minded people, could ever be enjoyable enough to outweigh the risk to the women and children participating.
