@FloraFox what constitutes "indecent" and beyond is all available from gov.uk, the CPS, etc

Is the album cover of Nevermind by Nirvana indecent? Should that be illegal, to your mind?

Naked images of children are not illegal, and if you are going to lobby to make them such then you'll need to be able to justify why artwork, medical journals, and (probably) millions of family photos are illegal.

I'm not a nudist and I have zero interest in these kinds of events.

I have found this thread interesting and where there has been debate it has usually been intelligent and measured. Notwithstanding the mud-slinging which has come from a few quarters who imply that anyone disagreeing with them is a paedo or a paedo-sympathiser.

It's a tad eye-opening when those same posters then admit they have no grasp of the law.

@Handsoffisback if this is a cause dear to your heart and you want to lobby to make it illegal then I think you should go for it - I really do - but with the greatest of respect I can muster you will need to do one hell of a lot of reading.

Lockheart you are the one who is focussing this on what the law is rather than the general discussion previously being had about why a parent would in any circumstances share a naked image of their children on the internet. Parenting discussions on MN do not generally revolve around what is legal for them to do and what is illegal.

I'm just asking you as a parent (presumably) which naked images of your children are you comfortable sharing on the internet?

I was responding to @Handsoffisback about why she thought it would be illegal for a naked child's image to be online. Hence the focus on the law.

This is not about what anyone is comfortable with, but about what is legal. Personally I wouldn't do it, but others might be comfortable with it, and they're not breaking the law to do so.

Pleasant as always, @Handsoffisback. At least you are consistent.

I would honestly remove children from parents who take their young children to private events where they are naked around naked, unknown adults. Sickening.

@Lockheart

It's a tad eye-opening when those same posters then admit they have no grasp of the law

If you are referring to hands as you claim to have been, she made it clear she was questioning what was against the law and expressing surprise that it wasn't against the law in general to distribute naked images of children in any way. It's a fair point and she doesn't need a treatise on the law to make that point.

I'm inferring from your posts that you feel you have a clear grasp of what are indecent images of children and what are not, although you seem rather shy of expressing your opinion. Maybe it's just that you want to point out that others who have said they are not sure on the limits of the law don't know the limits of the law. Confused

Despite what you say, it's not at all clear that the images being described would not fall under Category C indecent images, either under the terms of the legislation, the CPS guidelines or the sentencing guidelines. The case law refers to a "standard of propriety" which brings me back to my question of what images of your naked children do you think meet a standard of propriety for sharing with strangers on the internet?

ImEatingVeryHealthilyOhYes · 29/09/2020 22:17

I imagine we’ll see all kinds of changes to the law as all the affected children grow up and say wtf were my parents thinking?
