Ffs I am so sick of this agenda-heavy lobby group and their war against women's rights!

(Note that they are controlling who can reply to them too.)

“We are asking rugby clubs at all levels of the game to stand with us against a ruling that is exclusionary and that will impact some of the most vulnerable people in the community”.

I’ve mentioned it a few times but I think writing to the union in your country, if you’re a rugby player or viewer, is important.

DianasLasso · 04/09/2020 18:37

I know this thread has been going quite a long time now, but I'm still staggered, every time I come back to it, at the thought of the sheer level of hatred of women people must entertain in order to think that there is any circumstance whatsoever in which it would be even remotely acceptable for someone with male musculature, skeleton, lungs, stature, weight, and all the other advantages conferred by male puberty to play full contact rugby against women.

Do these people get off on the thought of fatal/life-limiting spinal and head injuries to women?

Why do they hate us so much?

That's the question I want to put to (among other people) the Canadian RFU. Just what the fuck is wrong with you? Why do you hate women so much?

ErrolTheDragon · 04/09/2020 18:42

Rugby Canada believes that all individuals deserve respectful and inclusive environments for participation that value the individuals’ gender identity and gender expression.

But evidently they don't think that individuals deserve respectful environments that value their physical health ... if those individuals are mere women.HmmAngry

MillyMollyFarmer · 04/09/2020 19:18

Good question. It seems all i ever read in the rugby section is articles on injury concerns and what world rugby should be doing to make it safer. It’s non-stop. Former players talk about it a lot. It’s fair enough but what the fuck are they doing then, watching this happen? There’s a British writer in nz media named Mark Reason, not everyone’s cup of tea, but he writes a lot about concussion and tackling laws. He knows his stuff too. But I don’t think I’ve ever seen him write about this issue. He writes for Stuff NZ. I just don’t get why there isn’t more conversation about this from everyone else in rugby, purely because of the health and safety aspect.

I feel we should be doing more to make sure change doesn’t wait for a bad injury or death- deaths happen in rugby as it is. Can anyone suggest something I can do other than write to the union or world rugby? I’m not on social media to share stuff either. It is scary Canada has already said no, if NZ & Australia do, that’s a real worry. What the fuck is wrong with everyone!

BettyFilous · 04/09/2020 19:51

I’m starting to wonder if the objective is to kill off women’s rugby, full stop. It will only take a few well publicised cases of serious injury or a female player’s death for the national governing bodies’ insurers to call time on cover for the women’s game, referees to refuse to ref women’s games or for parents to pull their daughters out of teams and adult women to decide it isn’t worth the risk. The women’s game will either come to a screeching halt or wither away rapidly without grassroots teams to develop talent. It’s a despicable act of vandalism.

merrymouse · 04/09/2020 19:58

Particularly as there is a lot of discussion at the moment about the safety of contact sports and whether children should be allowed to play them at all.

Maybe this isn’t a current issue in Canada? I assume that most schools don’t play rugby and that if Canadian children play a dangerous sport it’s more likely to be ice hockey?

RoyalCorgi · 04/09/2020 19:58

You could be right - and yet what would be the point? Who really cares about women's rugby enough to want to destroy it? I don't really know what the motive is, though - to kill and severely injure women because they hate us so much? To teach women a lesson for trying to do something on our own, without male involvement? Simply to demonstrate their power - ie they do it because they can?

What I don't believe for one moment is that their objective is to allow poor vulnerable trans women to play rugby and be accepted.

DianasLasso · 04/09/2020 20:00

I worry about this too, Betty.

DS used to play rugby, and I remember when he was under 11 the teams were mixed (they become single sex at that age for safety reasons... not safe for 12 year old boys to play against 12 year old girls, but magically safe for male-bodied adults to play against women... go figure).

There were three very talented girls on his team. I could cry thinking of their future.

I had the privilege of being in the biggest crowd ever for a women-only game (i.e. stand-alone event, not paired with a men's match) in the women's six nations a few years ago, and it was awesome.

And now a faction of deranged anti-science nutters with a political axe to grind want to kill off women's rugby completely.

merrymouse · 04/09/2020 20:06

bmjopen.bmj.com/content/2/4/e001149.full

This is about dangers of playing rugby for 13-15 year old boys because there is such variation in physical maturity.

(Of course girls never go through Male puberty.)

The fact that somebody has done this study demonstrates that safety is an issue, even amongst boys.

But Canada don’t acknowledge any of this. It’s all about valuing gender expression.

Are they even playing rugby?

merrymouse · 04/09/2020 20:10

if NZ & Australia do, that’s a real worry. What the fuck is wrong with everyone!

Lets hope that they are slightly more aware of the dangers, given that rugby has a higher profile in those countries.

I’d be worried about having a son playing rugby in Canada.

SerenityNowwwww · 04/09/2020 20:16

What about Australian rules football - that’s wild.

MillyMollyFarmer · 04/09/2020 20:22

NZ Rugby have already said they don’t support an outright ban of transgender players in women’s rugby. So I wonder what they’ll do instead and how it would go down.

DianasLasso · 04/09/2020 21:02

@SerenityNowwwww

Well, initially Aussie rules football was going to let Hannah Mouncey play, but then they back-pedalled (too many photos of Hannah twice the size of opponents, with the opponents being flattened) so Hannah has gone back to handball, where Hannah is head and shoulders taller than the rest of the team.
Sexnotgender · 04/09/2020 21:21

With regards to non binary players the Scottish rugby union were consulting on the inclusion of them in the women’s game last year 😏

MillyMollyFarmer · 04/09/2020 23:20

Really? For gods sake

BatShite · 05/09/2020 01:18

We want to ensure that all participants have access to programming and facilities in which they feel comfortable and safe, and will continue to take all steps necessary to do so.

..clearly NOT, as now many of the female players will not have acces to facilities and programming in which they feel comfortable, and certainly not safe! Aslong as the men are ok though yeah? Hurt feelings trump injuries and such clearly.

BatShite · 05/09/2020 01:22

err, everyone except women I think.

Quite. And you just know that if the women who did not want to play against men did all the work (again..) to set up a league for women, it would be either disallowed as transphobia, or taken over by males, again.

So fucking unfair.

Not sure if its just me or not, but these kinds of things make me absolutely rage these days. It used to make me angry yeah, but now each and every 'fuck you' to women makes me seriously mad..its all so shit. And I think I have finally come to terms totally with how little women mean to a great many people, how men are the default and must not be upset in any way. Women be damned.

BatShite · 05/09/2020 01:26

If the Canadian Women’s Ruby team rock up to the World Cup in New Zealand next year with a full forward pack of biological males who identify as women, and all other forwards are females... how is that everyone playing by the same rules? I don’t see how this can work.

The womens team who did not want to play against the men, would be disqualified. Or something. Its only a life threatening spinal injury for gods sake, you bigotted mess. That man likes the colour pink, so shut your damned whiney mouth, look at the science of pink and blue brains, not on the decades of research on biology! That was a terf infestation and should be widely ignored of course.

BatShite · 05/09/2020 01:27

Its possible I am slightly overinvested in this. But yeah, rage like I said.

Am not even a sporty person, no interest at all but this is the topic I was SURE wuld wake the damn world up. And seemingly..not.

SophocIestheFox · 05/09/2020 07:33

I’m also non stop incensed about this. It’s an aside, but this next example is all feeding into my general grievance about how little the women’s game is still valued, and how much of a fucking boys club the whole set up still is. The new Scotland strips were unveiled this week to much fanfare, please buy them to show your support for the team etc etc. Only the new Scotland women’s strips don’t feature because you can’t buy them, and while the men’s versions are modelled by rugby players, the women’s versions are modelled by fans. No female rugby players feature.

It’s such bullshit. And then the usual fucking blazer brigade at the top are urging women to cede what little we have because BE KIND, while they go on their merry way, game intact and unaffected? Honestly, fuck that noise.

PearPickingPorky · 05/09/2020 07:36

Reading this, while also thinking about the weekly stories in the news of women killed by men who were ignored by the police and often a full set of others failures like Social Workers, Probation services, etc etc and I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that there is a systemic hatred of women. Not just discrimination, or lack of thought and consideration, but hatred.
MillyMollyFarmer · 05/09/2020 07:56

BatShite

Keep raging sister! Women aren’t nearly angry enough about all this shit.

I’m sat here waiting for the north v south men’s game in nz, played after the men managed a super rugby tournament despite Covid. Meanwhile the women were an afterthought and get given scraps. That’s ok. That’s all fucking ok as long as men get everything they fucking want

MillyMollyFarmer · 05/09/2020 07:59

To add insult to injury there’s at least one player in this game who beat a woman and got off without conviction because ‘rugby’ and he’s only lived in NZ a couple of years. Jfc

FannyCann · 05/09/2020 11:09

Notice of an upcoming webinar "Save Women's Sport" has popped into my email this morning. Going to order one of the sports tops for the woke daughter - I suspect she won't know the organisation connected to it and will wear it in innocence. 😉
