He’s said something more than a little bit TERFY but has yet to be invited to suck lady dicks or die in a fire (as far as I can see).

I think he does get it, he just can't bear not being wokey mcwoke face and hates himself slightly for understanding completely why many people have concerns.

Yes this.

He is an intelligent man, he knows this has an effect on women. I have heard 2 of his shows discussing this issue - the first one with with a lady from this board and she made some really good points and he came across like a total misogynistic arse. The second one he had obviously thought about the issue and had a slightly different tone.

He fucking knows that penises shouldn't be in female spaces. He doesn't want his daughters sharing vulnerable spaces with cock, what father does?

But Paris always does the whole 'wouldn't you want to share a changing room with little old me' thing - they did it to Emma Watson too. Paris has been buddied up to JOB in the past too, he interviewed them and they posed for BFF pics together, so Paris can turn that thumbscrew that little bit tighter.

Quite the corner you have backed yourself into James Smile

I see Katy Montgomery is on that thread plugging their own (hours long) essay on JKR too - is there a trans thread on Twitter they haven't posted it on?!

FantaOra · 06/07/2020 17:59

JOB is the living breathing woolley minded liberal on this subject.

Floisme · 06/07/2020 18:03

Whether or not I like him is neither here nor there. I think it would be very significant if someone with an audience like his were to change his mind, and judging by who's on that thread, a number of TRAs think so too.

He'll almost certainly wilt under pressure this time, as did JKR, Martina, Robert Webb and many more but, once you start thinking about it, the game's usually up.

Soz - I got a message to say it hadn't posted the first time Blush

Highperbolay · 06/07/2020 18:07

Paris is really upset by this. To be fair, I kind of feel a little bit sorry for Paris, because before the TRA batshittery, a small number of transwomen were using the toilets and women were generally OK with that very small number of 'genuine' transwomen doing this.

But TRAs have pushed and pushed this. Not happy to be accepted in female spaces as a courtesy, they have pushed and pushed the 'TWAW' , the self id, the 'i am whatever I say I am', the 'wax my balls', the 'let my rapist penis into women's prisons', the 'I am a woman because I say so, now let me into the women's changing rooms', the 'if you don't completely capitulate you are a bigoted cunt who can suck my girl dick'.

And women have realised that the 'Choke on my girl dick brigade' are the exact same people who want access to their safe spaces. And are now saying NO!

And so here we are....

FantaOra · 06/07/2020 18:08

That thread has brought out the angry ranters going on about genital inspections.

Every time I see that I just envisage all of the late transitioning men in their strategy conferences saying "let's get everyone ranting about genital inspections and frighten off everyone".

It's such a transparent tactic I just want to laugh.

Roseburn · 06/07/2020 18:12

There's a few who I think would relish genital inspections. Can you imagine their delight? Inspect my lady dick?

Manderleyagain · 06/07/2020 18:16

This is a thread on how he treated a woman caller in 2017 who (it sounds like) said the same as he has said now.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3087218-James-OBrien-what-a-twat?pg=16
Though the link to the radio programme is gone now.

(Sorry can't remember how to do a link on phone).

His attitude to the dad of a trans child who says the words are hurtful, is very different:

"Does the point about communal facilities soften the impact my words had on you? It seems significant to me but I’m more interested in what you think...."

AbsintheFriends · 06/07/2020 18:17

That confrontational thing Paris Lees does is so fucking stupid. Don't they realise that people don't answer honestly when they've got someone springing a loaded question right into their face, and everyone else can see that?

Compelled consent, or appeasing consent, or embarrassed consent ISN'T CONSENT.

Deliriumoftheendless · 06/07/2020 18:18

Paris Lees and that mum are using emotional blackmail.

And if we say ok, Paris can come in what’s the criteria for saying no?

I have gay males friends who are lovely. They would not harm a woman. Can they come in? My ex is a dick but he wouldn’t hurt a woman. Can he come in? The men I work with are very kind and wouldn’t threaten a woman, can they come in? If not why not?

Why not a third space?

Your trans kid is probably lovely, but you know what? So’s my kid. Why should i prioritise YOUR rights over hers? I don’t see those mums saying “oh of course your little girl matters, I respect your opinion” yet that’s what I’m supposed to do.

ShinyFootball · 06/07/2020 18:18

Just had a squiz and not a single rape/ oral rape/ death threat.

How strange.

NotTerfNorCis · 06/07/2020 18:18

JOB was trying to figure things out last night... seems confused.

mobile.twitter.com/mrjamesob/status/1279810905107243010

I've learned an interesting lesson as a result of this. Women who face sanction & worse for stating their belief that biological sex is real thought it was about them. It wasn't. But many white supremacists relished the conflation. That's why 'culture war' is such a dodgy term

Manderleyagain · 06/07/2020 18:19

Floisme you are right, except for when it goes the other way, eg the fox assassin qc who dipped a toe in, got alot of push back, and went full on tra.

Bluebooby · 06/07/2020 18:24

He's who I think of whenever I see that lefty woke guy meme. His treatment of Posie Parker didn't entirely shock me, though he was more vicious than I expected. I've been wary of him since I contacted the show when he was talking about sexual harassment on public transport and he refused to believe I knew the difference between being groped and felt up and down and being accidently bumped into on a busy train. Plus he had met Fox Fisher on a previous show and they'd been really pally so it was never going to go well for Posie. I sound like I listen to LBC too much. I l have been listening for a very long time, and I have a near photographic memory for some things - terrible short term though.

I've noticed he's slightly softened his views over recent years and tried to balance slightly by saying that women have rights (thanks) - but there is no doubt in my mind that his main motivation for the change of heart is that he felt what way the wind was blowing and wants to ensure he is on the right side of it.

If you ever catch the way he speaks to transwomen compared to how he speaks to women, it's just so, so different. Less talking over, more sympathy, more credence to what is said - I'm sure you can guess which way round.

As for how he is on Brexit - I know that made a lot of people warm to him and kind of got him popular I think, but (and I did vote remain if it matters), I find him so patronising and condescending on that subject. He does the same thing to Brexit voters as he does to women on gender issues. Talks over and ridicules. With a side serving of subtle classism imo. I feel like he might be reading this thread which makes me feel awkward.

PurpleHoodie · 06/07/2020 18:27

James O'Brian is not in the least confused.

Floisme · 06/07/2020 18:27

Did Jolyon ever dip a toe in? I don't remember but if he did, yeah I'll have to concede that one Grin

PurpleHoodie · 06/07/2020 18:31

Don't feel awkward Blue.

DreadPirateLuna · 06/07/2020 18:33

As a Remainder I found him intolerable on the subject. So condescending towards people who didn't share his views. I almost wished I wasn't on the same side as him.

Alabamawhirly1 · 06/07/2020 18:37

It's a stupid argument. Because no one is policing toilets. Genital inspection will never happen.

Passing trans women have always used our facilities and non of us know or care. Irrespective of what happens, they will keep using our facilities, and we will still not know or care.

So that ladies "lovely" trans daughter will (assuming she is a traditional transexual) not be affected.

If we say anyone who claims to be trans can enter ANYONE CAN ENTER

LiveintheNow · 06/07/2020 18:37

The question needs to be turned around.

'I hear what you are saying Paris, but how would you keep women safe?'

Highperbolay · 06/07/2020 18:40

Isn't it fascinating to compare JOB and JKR as well. She comes out with a series of well thought out tweets stating her concerns and remains strong, dignified and classy in the face of the most horrific physically and sexually violent threats.

He says 'I don't think penises should be in female spaces', gets a bit of pushback on it and shits his pants and comes out with 'oooh I don't know, ooooh I know it's a cop out but it's all I've got'.

Fucking pathetic. Stand up for your daughters for christ sake James.

Highperbolay · 06/07/2020 18:47

If we say anyone who claims to be trans can enter ANYONE CAN ENTER

And the problem is in all of these discussion of how 'trans people are not a threat' the very obviously missing thing is a definition of what a trans person actually is. And everyone who wants access to female spaces thinks it should include them.

Helmetbymidnight · 06/07/2020 18:57

im glad to see johnathon pie on these tweets- he knows what a woman is.
