And to make matters worse I can’t do the word thing either

Sometimes i wonder what I’m good for 🤔

I think it might be light relief

BentBastard · 09/07/2020 21:27

Perhaps you could have a separate maths thread to be more inclusive of us innumerates AngryGrin

DianasLasso · 09/07/2020 21:31

In my experience, mathematicians are very tolerant and inclusive of innumerates, mostly because most mathematicians fall to pieces completely when you ask them to do actual sums with actual numbers (as opposed to x and y). Hence the old joke: There are three types of mathematician, the ones who can count, and the ones who can't.

(Applies to physicists too - during my student days, 3 of us stood round a blackboard trying to work out petrol cost per head for a shared car journey, and getting at least 4 different answers between 3 of us, while the engineer who'd been on the road trip with us sat and laughed at us...)

You've all gone off down a mathematical rabbithole that is way to deep for me.
But going back to the original topic, I do hope JK is OK, I worry that there's only so much abuse a person can take, she once said she was thin skinned in an interview and you'd need to be thick skinned to take some of the crap being thrown her way. Hoping that she is surrounded by supportive people at home.

Siablue · 09/07/2020 22:15

Tom Felton, Jason Issacs and Helen McRory are doing the latest chapter of Harry Potter at home. I wonder if that is a form of support or if it was pre-recorded.

I am fascinated by all the maths.

Kljnmw3459 · 10/07/2020 00:41

Hopefully she'll get to take a break from social media and news etc to recharge.

McDuffy · 10/07/2020 07:47

I called out a JKR t*rf joke on twitter this morning and got "TWAW" answered back as a quite unexpected response Shock you could've struck me down with a feather.

Seriously though, he didn't have a beard, which has shaken my belief system somewhat.

This tweet:

has massively restored my faith in younger women! If this woman is part of the future of journalism in this country, I feel a bit better about that future.

I do find it interesting how many young BAME women are supporting JK.

When I went to look at her twitter a couple of days ago, someone had put something like, "you are the voice we all needed" in response to her tweet, and she'd responded to them, " and all of you are the comfort I needed."

I think emailing her, and sending cards of support, is really important. I don't care how rich or famous you are; she's a survivor of some horrible abuse and she has talked about her struggles with mental health. She's doing this, very clearly, because she believes that someone has to speak up, not because she's a masochist. She knew what would happen and did it anyway. She's sacrificed being globally beloved for this, and while she very obviously reached a point where she couldn't in conscience remain silent any longer, it's still got to be painful.

I think anyone who agrees with her, who hasn't yet contacted her to say thank you for her courage and unselfishness, would comfort her if they did.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 10/07/2020 10:28

We have comfort in each other 💪

Totally agree. It doesn’t matter how much money she has now, it’s scant comfort when there are baying mobs denying everything you are.
It must hurt.

She is amazing.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 10/07/2020 11:23

She really is amazing. I've emailed and written already but I'm going to send her a birthday card at the end of the month. And donate to Lumos in her name.

BlackKite · 10/07/2020 13:57

What I don't get is everything JKR posts about her new work and the pictures of some children, half the people who reply are "TWAW!".

Jesus, it's not all about them.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 10/07/2020 14:13

Jesus, it's not all about them.

They would disagree with you on that one. Narcissists through and through.

It's been recorded since lockdown.
SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 10/07/2020 15:04

As far as I know neither Matthew Lewis nor Tom Felton joined the pile on / denouncing of JKR on twitter. Which warmed my heart a little.

Siablue · 10/07/2020 15:12

I noticed that too neither of them did. Tom Felton even liked one of her tweets. That’s why I was wondering if he was supporting her. I no they were all recorded in lockdown which is why the Dan Ratcliffe chapter sound s like he recorded it in the bath.

thirdfiddle · 10/07/2020 15:49

Felton always struck me as the brightest of the Potter child actors. Let's hope eh. Difficult for actors, they have no job security, and however rich they must want to work.

Deliriumoftheendless · 10/07/2020 15:58

Has Jason Isaacs slagged her off? Only I rather fancy him.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 10/07/2020 16:04

I don't think any of the adult actors have, have they? Probably because they a) agree with her and b) are bright enough to stay out of it.

Siablue · 10/07/2020 16:06

None of the actors who played an adult part have commented in any way. Some were asked to make a statement but sensibly declined.
I do hope they are supporting her behind the scenes.

Collidascope · 10/07/2020 16:07

@Deliriumoftheendless

I don't think so. And I remember reading an interview by the guy who plays Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke?) who didn't seem to be a fan of cancel culture either, so I doubt he'd join the pile on.
Collidascope · 10/07/2020 16:09

Yeah, here's the interview with Tom Burke if anyone is interested. From last year so not linked to JK's comments.
