Why is mumsnet such a transphobic cesspit

God I'm sick of the waffly one liners with no substance being posted on here. It just makes people look really daft and is tedious.

teawamutu · 29/06/2020 15:00

@Smallgoon

Why is mumsnet such a transphobic cesspit?
I'm guessing when you class 'transphobic' as 'anything that disagrees even mildly with the TRA agenda' you tend to see quite a lot of it.

When all you've got is a hammer, etc etc etc.

thelikelylass · 29/06/2020 15:03

Stephen - you NON-beaut!!!!!

Pertella · 29/06/2020 15:03

Maybe mumsnet will permit us 1 thread where examples of transphobia on MN can be posted by those that see it with the caveat that it is for the benefit of the TRAs so they can just refer us to it?

Impatiens · 29/06/2020 15:04

Why is mumsnet such a transphobic cesspit?

Because it isn't. HTH

I see #transwomenarewomen is trending on twitter. Wonder if anyone wants to try #transwomenaretranswomen - or has that already been tried?

SerenityNowwwww · 29/06/2020 15:05

@Smallgoon

Why is mumsnet such a transphobic cesspit?
Prove it or shit up.
Oxyiz · 29/06/2020 15:06

Oh ignore the troll. They know what they're doing.

And anything that doesn't 100% back up the increasingly bonkers delusions of TRAs is transphobia in their books, so you'll never get a definition that is helpful.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 29/06/2020 15:07

gamerchick it's pretty much echoing what I have going on in the background, with my primary school age kids running into the room and calling each other smelly poo-poos and running away again.

That's a great idea Pertella. It could be called the 'Wall of Shame' and include those posts deleted for transphobia and those deleted for breaking the talk guidelines.

wellbehavedwomen · 29/06/2020 15:26

Just wanted to say that if you donate to Lumos, you can do so in someone's honour, and if you give an email address they are notified that you have done so, so you can put her 'info' address. I suspect that would be the best thank you JKR could have, tbh. Though supportive messages obviously also matter.

Xenia · 29/06/2020 15:36

I adored his books as a teenager. Good for him and for JKR.

The world will return to sanity. This is just a passing weird phase. All will be well and all will be well and all manner of things will be well as most people are perfectly sensible about these things. Just like most of us are not racist, most of us mean trans people no harm and in fact I support the existing English law - that you have the operation , hormones etc etc and then do the full legal gender change. After the legal gender change then in law your gender is changed (and the Tories thankfully are not going to change our sensible laws in England now. Deo gratias).

Untolduntolds · 29/06/2020 15:43

I love this

OldCrone · 29/06/2020 15:44

I support the existing English law - that you have the operation , hormones etc etc and then do the full legal gender change.

No medical treatment is required for a legal change of sex under current UK law.

www.channel4.com/news/factcheck/factcheck-rowling-right-that-hormones-or-surgery-not-required-for-legal-gender-change

But the Government Equalities Office, which oversees the process by which people can change their legal gender in the UK, told FactCheck today that: “You do not have to be taking hormones or planning to get surgery to get a GRC” and “it’s not in the legal requirements that someone be taking, or planning to take, hormones”.

Bananabixfloof · 29/06/2020 15:44

Why do people say this without any evidence whatsoever to back it up
So we spend time and energy proving otherwise.
So dont bother, just leave those posts to stand. Dont report, dont respond.

OldeMagick · 29/06/2020 15:47

.

AbsintheFriends · 29/06/2020 15:47

That's a brilliant idea wellbehavedwomen, thanks for the link. While I'm waiting for Allison Bailey's crowdfunder to start up again or appear somewhere else I'll make a donation in JK's honour.

YgritteSnow · 29/06/2020 15:53

Why is mumsnet such a transphobic cesspit?

MN is a transphobic cesspit in the same way that TWAW Smile

FransDiner · 29/06/2020 15:56

Imagine changing the meaning of the words transsexual, female, girls and women all in the space of 5 years and having the fucking temerity to call someone transphobic for not accepting it immediately

TheShoesa · 29/06/2020 15:57

Love that YgritteSnow

TheGreenUmbrella · 29/06/2020 16:01

JK's follower count has gone down a lot in recent weeks. Another small gesture would be to follow her on Twitter, even if you rarely use it.

FransDiner · 29/06/2020 16:14

She's got 14 million followers think she'll be ok Grin

She was probably put on terf blocker list an blocked by people who don't even know what's happening

Kljnmw3459 · 29/06/2020 16:15

To my shame, ive not really paid much attention to this issue before until the jkr tweet. Most of my social media is still mainly about lots of other stuff rather than anything trans so the algorithms probably don't show much of the discussion on my feeds. I'm just finding myself getting bemused about the whole thing. And increasingly worried and annoyed. I support trans rights but I don't support the denial of science and biology. Such a strange thing.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 29/06/2020 16:19

I support trans rights

You'd be surprised, I think, to learn exactly what is covered under "trans rights" now.

Kljnmw3459 · 29/06/2020 16:21

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito yes it seems so.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 29/06/2020 16:44
