Maybe someone should tweet ‘you should address the women’s rights issues. Tell us if you think women shouldn’t have them’. See what he says.

FloralBunting · 29/06/2020 16:52

I noticed she's unfollowed him and the whining shitbabies on social media are trying to make that something too.

I'd have unfollowed the back stabbing cowardly fucker too. I'm not at all surprised to see he retracted, I am too far gone to ever be disappointed in male cowardice now, but I will have the back of every woman who decides, when a man displays his cowardice, that she will not play footsie for the sake of being seen as nice. I am SO FUCKING TIRED of women being expected to bend over backwards, to accept that we must work twice as hard to be heard, let alone live our lives in peace and with a fair crack at it.

Honestly, fuck the bloody lot of them. I do not care any more. Women and girls matter. In feminism only women and girls matter. If we want to cut a connection with a disappointing man, we fucking well will.

All more reasons to love Mr King. cheers

Saucery · 29/06/2020 17:00

It could well be a family or friend thing, as mentioned above. His daughter is a lesbian and involved with a church which seems very libertarian. Could be something to do with that, or nothing at all to do with that.
But why enter into the fray at all, if he was going to weasel straight back out of it?

Katypyee · 29/06/2020 17:07

Trans women ARE women. They matter too. All these threads supporting JK make me want to puke. You can still be a feminist and support trans rights too you know.

SerenityNowwwww · 29/06/2020 17:08

How are they women? Do explain. And ‘because they say so’ isn’t an answer.

FransDiner · 29/06/2020 17:11

Trans women ARE women. They matter too. All these threads supporting JK make me want to puke. You can still be a feminist and support trans rights too you know.

@Katypyee which bit of Rowling's essay did you have an issue with? And did you actually read it? I'm not being arsey there, I've had several people mention her essay and how controversial it was who hadn't actually read it!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 29/06/2020 17:12

As far as I understand it, the rights that trans people are demanding can be summary as:

  1. Gender should replace sex in any and all scenarios, whether or not this has a harmful impact on the female sex.
  2. Trans people are whatever gender they say they are, no arguments.

Are those the rights you support, Katy? If so, can you explain why?

FreddoFrogAddict · 29/06/2020 17:13

How are transwomen women? Please explain because I cannot see the logic or the science. Are you happy for women to retain their EA sex based rights, or do you believe women should have fewer rights? Are you happy for intact, adult male bodied women to compete against women in women's sports?

Smallsteps88 · 29/06/2020 17:13

Trans women ARE women. They matter too.

Transwomen matter too. Just as much, no more, no less than women. But they are not women. They are men who identify as women. We know this because they are called transwomen. If they were women they would be called women.

SleepingStandingUp · 29/06/2020 17:13

Well I'd assume he think trans women are women but that that isn't a reason to threaten violence etc against women who disagree. So defending the rights of someone who he disagrees with to have their opinion and the right to express it. Of course that doesn't mean people are obliged to like him, I just don't think he's necessarily backtracking

Heygirlheyboy · 29/06/2020 17:13

Yes I always want to ask 'In what way?', honestly. I think that anyone should be allowed to wear what they want and live the life they want and if adults, take hormones etc. I would treat anyone with respect, use whatever name and pronouns etc, no problem. But I don't actually get the twaw.. I don't see what the problem with simply being tw is, while being accepted as a woman day to day with no discrimination and being provided with acceptable changing facilities etc. I assume I am therefore transphobic though I have no hate whatsoever.

FreddoFrogAddict · 29/06/2020 17:18

Support for JK makes you want to puke. How do you feel about the TRA tweets in response? All of the choke on my big fat lady dick type comments, threats of physical and sexual violence? Nobody has threatened a trans person in this debacle, wished them harm, but people supporting JK make you puke?

Oxyiz · 29/06/2020 17:22

Better grab your vomit bag then because reality is that almost no one in real life truly thinks transwomen are women. It's a social kindness and a mental act of compassion, which most of us here used to extend until we saw what it really meant.

Whysomanyexcuses · 29/06/2020 17:23

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito

"You'd be surprised, I think, to learn exactly what is covered under "trans rights" now."

Indeeed.

To the poster who said that Mumsnet is a 'cesspit of anti-trans' - total rubbish and you know it so stop trolling.

FloralBunting · 29/06/2020 17:26

Transwomen are not women.

It's not a feminist response to women supporting women to say it makes you puke. Thanks for your input.

Collidascope · 29/06/2020 17:26

It's like Troll Piccadilly Circus on here today. I think the poll with the really odd questions and random capitalisation of letters was my favourite, but the thread accusing us all of being easily upset came a close second. This one about wanting to puke is pretty poor.

AnyOldPrion · 29/06/2020 17:28

He’s a writer. If he wanted to support her right to speak, but disagreed with the content, he could easily have made that clear.

Even if he only wanted to support her right to speak, and realised it was being misconstrued, he could have explained that without much difficulty, and been apologetic.

Instead, he behaved like an abusive man: he offered apparent support, then responded to an openly abusive tweet with a lazy mantra that is in direct conflict with all that she’s been saying.

But the worst thing about all this, is that in all the furore and abuse, the quiet, thoughful words that JK Rowling wrote have been overshadowed. This was her moment, and he fucked it up royally.

Supporting the rights of gender non-conforming people is NOT the same as parroting the TWAW lie.

I am a survivor of sex trafficking and of torture and when I read and hear the TWAW lie it causes me immense distress.

I was told every day by my pimp that I am not a real woman.

Like many women I had impostor syndrome all my life because I didn't feel like a real woman.

Now I am supposed to listen to a bunch of men calling me an oppressor because I do not belive that they are women simply because they feel like it inside? Seriously?

When I see this lie repeated on the BBC and in various statutory organisations I find it terrifying. It causes me to feel that the world has gone mad and is not safe.

There again I'm just a woman so my feelings don't matter compared to those of men.

Hoodathunkit Flowers

Just a reminder to the "you are such nasty transphobes" ploppers: these are the people you want us to be being kind to. You might be happy to find yourself in an enclosed space with them. No me.

Trans women ARE women

No they aren't women, they are Trans Women. If they were women, you wouldn't need the trans bit.

They make you want to puke? Are you 5 years old?
midgebabe · 29/06/2020 17:53

You can be a feminist and support trans rights without having to think that TWAW

I couldn't agree more with this. It's now all about SK. Bastard.
