Previous, not precious.

Collidascope · 29/06/2020 11:08

How cowardly. Condemns the abuse women receive but then replies without criticism to someone calling her a TERF. How hard would it have been to just ignore or call out someone using that slur against a woman?

JemimaShore · 29/06/2020 11:08

It shows him (and everyone) exactly what she thinks of him. It shows him that he has sacrificed honour and integrity for the baying mob.

The dignity of the woman is breathtaking. She really is incredible - because that must have felt like a slap in the face.

He's kept his re-tweet up - I suppose you can disagree with the misogynistic abuse JK is getting, but still think TWAW - but does anyone really think that?

I thought it was just "be kind" posturing to repeat TWAW. A mantra that TRAs like to get politicians and celebs to say. Because we all know it's not actually true. "Living as" women, "identifying as" women - whatever those things mean - but nobody born male can actually BE a woman. Otherwise we wouldn't have the word "trans".

AnneOfCreamCables · 29/06/2020 12:06

He can't take the freedom of speech angle whilst replying to a tweet that uses TERF. Those two positions are diametrically opposed. As a PP said, he seems to want to get pats on the head from everyone whilst sacrificing nothing ... but his integrity.

Whatwouldrowando · 29/06/2020 12:50

Yes!!!! One of my favourite writers - I'm so chuffed to see this.

Mr King certainly hasn't been a 'woke' writer, although it might seem like that given his recent stuff like Elevation - his writing of women has been quite poor in the past. However, I think his son (Joe Hill, an excellent writer of women) has been influential on him here.

So chuffed to see this retweet. If SK - or indeed JKR - had fallen, I would be depressed indeed.

amusedtodeath1 · 29/06/2020 12:55

Just read the article in the Indy, I'm very disappointed in Mr King.

Heygirlheyboy · 29/06/2020 12:56
Hmm
Whatwouldrowando · 29/06/2020 13:02

Oh. Never mind.

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/06/2020 13:03

Bloody coward.

PermanentCobOn · 29/06/2020 14:05

How can we support JKR. Do we follow her on Twitter and like her comments?

What's best?

GinUnicorn · 29/06/2020 14:09

I like all her comments and put something nice in the ickabog pictures

Collidascope · 29/06/2020 14:12

You can email her on
[email protected]

It sounds like a lot of women have done to thank her for speaking out, and she's definitely reading some of it or having the gist of it passed on.

Carouselfish · 29/06/2020 14:13

Awesome news!!!

Carouselfish · 29/06/2020 14:14

Ok, need to rtft...

FreddoFrogAddict · 29/06/2020 14:22

How could he do that to JKR? I'm so saddened for her to have lost someone she considered a friend and ally, in such a humiliating and public manner. I've always admired Stephen King, but now he's just another virtue signalling turncoat, who values woke points more than integrity. Just another privileged man throwing women under a bus.

Kit19 · 29/06/2020 14:23

indeed Freddo - it was a cuntish thing to do

Manderleyagain · 29/06/2020 14:26

We put too much hope in these celebrities.

He presumably agrees with what was in the tweet he retweeted (the dworkin quote) but that doesn't mean he agrees with her on everything. Maybe he does think twaw. Some do. Lots of gc people were once of that opinion - until they questioned. It should be possible to disagree with someone but believe they should be able to give their view without abuse.

But I'm a bit disgusted by the way he responded to the misogynist insult term terf - when so much of the vile abuse directed at her has included that word.

Nancydrawn · 29/06/2020 14:26

Stephen King deeply admires her as a writer. He's written many reviews of her books and championed her work for years. He has a strong and unusual (though not unique) reputation as a genre writers whose writing is taken seriously by critics and the public alike. In his reviews, which are written for major, serious publications, he has made it clear that she belongs in this category as well.

This explains his following of her on Twitter.

Stephen King has made numerous feminist statements in the past (though this has been an evolution). He also tends to stand up for those who have been marginalized, bullied, or cast aside in society.

I believe his first tweet is about the former. I believe his second tweet is about the latter.

Smallgoon · 29/06/2020 14:31

Why is mumsnet such a transphobic cesspit?

TheMerrickBoy · 29/06/2020 14:32

what a cowardly shit

Jellyeggs · 29/06/2020 14:34

Smallgoon: I guess because people speak freely here. Because we are anonymous we aren’t shouted down, threatened with being cancelled or doxxed, our jobs aren’t under threat and we feel safer because there are other women here who understand how we feel and share solidarity. It’s nicer than the cesspits where the TRas hang out.

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 29/06/2020 14:35

@Smallgoon

Why is mumsnet such a transphobic cesspit?
Its not

Mumsnet the company are very careful to delete transphobic posts when reported and have imposed extra special rules for this board in particular

Kit19 · 29/06/2020 14:37

transphobia is not allowed on here so please do report all the transphobic posts you see and they'll be gone

i mean if its such a transphobic cesspit you'll have hours of fun reporting it all right?

Thisismytimetoshine · 29/06/2020 14:44

@Smallgoon

Why is mumsnet such a transphobic cesspit?
Why do people say this without any evidence whatsoever to back it up?
Smallsteps88 · 29/06/2020 14:44

We put too much hope in these celebrities.

This^. Tbh I do find some of the “whooping” and giddiness when a celeb posts anything remotely hinting at being GC a bit cringeworthy. And often it’s premature as has been proven in this case.

I think a bit more waiting and watching before getting carried away is a good idea.

Why is mumsnet such a transphobic cesspit?

It’s not. MNHQ remove any transphobic posts. If you see any, report them and they’ll be deleted.
