Imagine changing the meaning of the words transsexual, female, girls and women all in the space of 5 years and having the fucking temerity to call someone transphobic for not accepting it immediately

This. And "lesbian".

Benny10 · 29/06/2020 18:33

What's the issue with calling trans women women? And why is Stephen King a bastard for thinking they should be called women? And what's with the weird cult like following of JK Rowling? Is it purely because she has an issue with calling trans women women? And finally are you all big Graham Linehan fans in here too? Smile

Thisismytimetoshine · 29/06/2020 18:35

And here's another one... 🙄

midgebabe · 29/06/2020 18:36

The issue with calling transwomen women is that they are not.

We could change the meaning of the word , although no one has managed to come up with a workable definition

Further, they don't just want to be called women, they also want access to women's rights, those extra rights granted to women to help them achieve their human rights

What’s the issue calling them trans women or transsexuals or transvestites?
EyesOpening · 29/06/2020 18:38

@Heygirlheyboy

Yes I always want to ask 'In what way?', honestly. I think that anyone should be allowed to wear what they want and live the life they want and if adults, take hormones etc. I would treat anyone with respect, use whatever name and pronouns etc, no problem. But I don't actually get the twaw.. I don't see what the problem with simply being tw is, while being accepted as a woman day to day with no discrimination and being provided with acceptable changing facilities etc. I assume I am therefore transphobic though I have no hate whatsoever.
this is more or less what I think too. "In what way"? - get back in the kitchen? you can't do man-things? you can't get paid the same as men? you're not as important as men? Is this what they want? I don't really get it. I'm still trying to figure out how I identify as a woman, I think it's more that other people look at me and recognise/identify me as the female of the human race. Until recently, I too presumed that all TW were "presenting" as women and had either had the (bottom) op or were going to and I wasn't bothered about sharing toilet facilities with them, I now understand the implications and the effects on others and that it's not about me), I really had no idea!
FloralBunting · 29/06/2020 18:41

Jaysus, the thick anti woman sexists can't get their heads around women having their own thoughts. No, not a Linehan fan. Thanks for your input. Pillock.

This thread is strange in its conformity. Sk is a bastard for tweeting something that makes people who are often very vulnerable feel good about themselves, I saw someone say the shit babies are trying to make JK Rowling deleting her tweet "into something" I'd say it's plain that she wanted to make it something by going to the bother of removing her praise of him over 4 words.

I doubt he's very invested in this war he's just a fair minded man who doesn't believe anyone should be ostracised. JK Rowling deleting her tweet on the other hand indicates an aggression in her view that trans women are NOT to be called women which to me seem to make her far less empathetic and likeable person

(Trans women aren't biologically the same as women obviously and it's not like they'll take anyone's place in any way, the argument that it puts women in danger is ridiculous so what is the problem really? I'd like to know)

Nancydrawn · 29/06/2020 18:49

What’s the issue calling them trans women or transsexuals or transvestites?

These are all different things.

Thisismytimetoshine · 29/06/2020 18:49

How is refusing to acknowledge trans women as women, instead of trans women, "ostracising" them?
Did you actually understand any of JK Rowling's tweets? Or read the replies?

SerenityNowwwww · 29/06/2020 18:50

Hence the ‘or’ - hypothetical person.

EyesOpening · 29/06/2020 18:50

@wellbehavedwomen

Just wanted to say that if you donate to Lumos, you can do so in someone's honour, and if you give an email address they are notified that you have done so, so you can put her 'info' address. I suspect that would be the best thank you JKR could have, tbh. Though supportive messages obviously also matter.
great idea, thank you! email is [email protected]
Smallsteps88 · 29/06/2020 18:51

People with similar opinions on a topic gravitate towards a shared space that allows them to discuss it and it’s a “strange conformity”? Interesting. And what is it called when men agree on things?

Highperbolay · 29/06/2020 18:53

What's the issue with calling trans women women? And why is Stephen King a bastard for thinking they should be called women?

Well for starters, transwomen are not women. They are transwomen. If they were women, they wouldn't be transwomen would they? Smile

And he is a dick because he posted apparently in support of JK Rowling, then posted something directly afterwards that totally undermined that thereby giving fuel to the 'Choke on my girl dick you cunt' brigade. When he could have just said nothing at all and left her alone.

JemimaShore · 29/06/2020 18:54

Trans women aren't biologically the same as women obviously and it's not like they'll take anyone's place in any way

Transwomen have taken women's & girl's political places, places on sports teams, scholarships, awards.

So yes, calling them women, and allowing this, does take away from women.

And there is no shame in women wanting female only changing rooms, toilets etc - some women don't mind mixed-sex spaces - but the ones who do should not just be brushed aside and ignored.

Benny10 · 29/06/2020 18:55

Your calling me thick because I disagree with you, that's typically something thick or angry people do themselves

Redshoeblueshoe · 29/06/2020 18:55

I know smallsteps - it's called life.

Unfortunately women aren't allowed to talk anymore.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2020 18:55

Because it's not true, and as a belief it hurts women. However things that aren't true make people feel about themselves. There are other people affected by these untruths.

Indeed. Is 'TWAW no debate' strange conformity too? If not, why not?

Tell that to the women who got ousted out of the FT Top 100 Women in Business List so that Pips Bunce could get a place. Or the woman who could have had Lily Madigan's Labour 'Women's Officer' position.

Why do you think that allowing males into female spaces won't be a problem?

Benny10 · 29/06/2020 18:58

OK Jemima yes totally agree on the sports thing, it's clear that trans women have an unfair advantage their and its unfair for them to take a womans place in professional sport. But politics, scholarships? Men and women are equal in these disciplines and if they are looking to be treated as women isn't it the case that it's two women competing for these things on a level playing field?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2020 18:58

what is the problem really? I'd like to know

You obviously haven't read many FWR threads, Benny. There's plenty to get stuck into!

Highperbolay · 29/06/2020 18:59

@Benny10 what's your view on women losing out to Rachel McKinnon or Laurel Hubbard in their respective sports? Or women who have lost out on college sports scholarships in America because a male got it instead?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 29/06/2020 19:00

Men and women are equal in these disciplines

No, they are not. What do you think scholarships for girls and all women shortlists are for, exactly? You appear to think there is no need for feminism?
