Twitter has suspended me

Glinner · 27/06/2020 03:16

I'm really sorry to barge in on you Mumsnettters with my problems, but
I've been finally suspended from Twitter and I have a feeling they're either going to ban me or just take my verified tick. I've submitted an appeal with Twitter and the Better Business Bureau but I thought I'd post here too so people knew what was going on.

Recently, I keep being locked out of my account and forced to delete tweets to get back in. The latest tactic by trans rights activists is to run a search for any time I've used the word 'groomer', a phrase Twitter recently decided was Not Allowed.

This was not a violation of Twitter's ToS at the time I used the phrase, and I have been careful to avoid it since. I still use the word 'grooming' in various permutations because I believe that gender ideology is a form of societal grooming. It is a very real threat to the wellbeing of women and children and if our ability to name a threat is removed, it is even more difficult to fight that threat.

You may remember that Twitter similarly removed Canadian feminist Meghan Murphy. She lost her account when she said "that's him" about 'Jessica' Yaniv. Bear in mind that Yaniv was still going under 'Jonathan' at the time, and just as in my case, her crime against Twitter's Terms of Service was not actually an offence at the time she committed it. She probably never thought she could be banned from the public square for uttering the words "that's him". But that's Twitter.

Twitter has a high percentage of trans-identified employees and for some time has been silencing feminists and their allies who run afoul of its absurd 'misgendering' policies. The one good thing about my situation is that I'm in great company--Claire Graham, Meghan Murphy, Skylar Gwynn, Miranda Yardley, GNC Centric and many more, important feminist and critical voices who have been silenced for fighting a dangerous ideology that tells children it's possible to be born into the wrong body.

Anyway, that's what's happening. Please let people know it's entirely down to malicious reporting from the usual suspects and please keep watching my YouTube Channel and visiting my depressing blog. I'll also be available on Glindr if people from Twitter want to re-establish contact there. Hope it's ok to post these links to those destinations

@Lamahaha

Psst. We’re the mommies. We’ve seen it all before grin

Indeed we have! A couple years ago it was the naughty step. What is the approved method of dealing with toys-out-of-the-pram tantrums these days?

I'm sorry I missed all the fun but really, it's easy to guess what was said. It's always the same isn't it? No discussion, just "you're all so meeeeeeen!" outrage.

This too shall pass.
The fury is because they realise that the wheels are indeed wobbling badly and will soon fall off the TRA bus.
Outside of Twitter hardly anyone believes TWAW. Not deep inside, where is really matters. It's a mantra without power.

I would love to believe this. But organisations and institutions behave as though self-id is lawful. The msm doesn't provide a balanced, truthful account of what the issues are - even women's hour tiptoes around. Any msm debate there might be is clouded with the words controversial - I cannot see what is controversial about stating facts and defending the our rights along with those of our daughters. I just can't see how it goes forward when those that speak out can be dismissed from their employment just for liking tweets. I feel very very low about all this today.
littlbrowndog · 27/06/2020 14:08

Ofgs. Imagine what sort of hateful person writes that about Magdalen

Filled with hate

She was a beautiful sparky intelligent woman

What is wrong with men that they are so filled with hate for women

Same for the ones that went after JK and the baroness and so many others

I don’t understand such hate

ChattyLion · 27/06/2020 14:09

More power to your elbow Glinner

SusieOwl4 · 27/06/2020 14:09

So even worse by the Mail , taken in by a troll and not doing proper research . What a surprise.

maudspellbody · 27/06/2020 14:14

Toolatetooearly
I know what you mean. It's a struggle many of us have faced. It took me a while but I think I have found my line now.

The problem is that many of us who are liberal, pro-gay rights and want to be as inclusive and compassionate as possible are up against it with this one. We don't want to be on the wrong side - and the right side has always been the side of the underdog. As Transgender people are painted as that underdog, not to affirm and fight with them feels like bigotry.

So we want to be kind to transsexuals struggling with dysphoria. We want them to find peace and be included and comfortable in their own identity.

I have always done this. I have met transsexuals in the ladies and have made them welcome. I have used 'she/her pronouns. It's a human thing to do.

This is what trans people say themselves quite often: 'we've been in the ladies with you for decades and it has never been a problem.'

But now we are in 2020.

The issue is with NEW gender identity politics. It is only recently that trans activists have asked for the word 'woman' to change its definition, or for legislation to be passed to treat their dysphoria. Some even argue that dysphoria is unnecessary. They don't need to feel like they are in the wrong body. It is not a mental illness. They just have to want to be women - and that is enough.

It is asking people to suspend their own disbelief. I think this tweet illustrates it. (I will send it to follow). It basically says that being kind is not enough. Using preferred pronouns is not enough. You are expected to truly believe that the person before you is a woman. Most people's brains can't stretch that far.

I'm not good with blind faith at the best of times. I'm an atheist. I believe in science.

So that's my line. I will be inclusive, accommodating, kind and compassionate. I will not make any individual feel uncomfortable or excluded - but I won't allow that to cross a line into thought policing and threats to safeguarding.

There are lots of transsexuals (truscum) on twitter saying the same - we have dysphoria. We are happier presenting as men/women and people are kind enough to treat us a such. But we know we haven't really changed sex. This is what we do to get by.

These people's voices are too quiet and they are turned on by the trans thought police.

And that is my line.

It's the same as JKRs, in essence - I will be kind and compassionate and fight for your right to live in freedom and without discrimination - but I draw the line at laws, prisons, sports and refuges. And I draw the line at autogynephiles in women's spaces.

And that makes me a big, fat TERF

Sorry glinner kind of derailed there...

Thank you for all you do. Sorry about the Twitter bollocks.

You are welcome here

VenusTiger · 27/06/2020 14:17

@Myriad, have you read Glinner's thread on here - it WAS why he was suspended - he used the word groomer.

ThePurported · 27/06/2020 14:18

Just another example of today's lazy journalism

Yes. And Daily Mail and other IPSO members never complain about the ridiculous guidance which forces (allows?) them to publish "women"-do-it-too stories like this one about "Wendy":

Annasgirl · 27/06/2020 14:19

@Glinner, well you’ve made the front page of the Irish Times new website!!! But as per the IT, they are not on the side of women - or the MN Transphobes as they think of us - so you are not getting a sympathetic hearing (I’m sure you are distraught).

justasking111 · 27/06/2020 14:25

My mind cannot grasp sex with horses, is Wendy really a woman. My advice re: grooming is to keep your kids close and educate them that the world can be a nasty place. Years ago saw someone trying to groom a child on club penguin, when I complained was told to go away.

MrBennsshop · 27/06/2020 14:27

@AnnaPosie

Why can't you just go and setup your own website instead of coming to a site that you have no place on , I come here to discuss Parenthood and topics relating to this, I do not want your transphobic comments here.

Twitter is a company , they have guidelines, they clearly are with odds with your views on life. I'm all for free speech but not facilitating hate speech. We really don't need you and your views on this platform.

Fortunately you don't get to choose who posts on here Smile
WipeYourFeet · 27/06/2020 14:27

@maudspellbody fab post! Very well put Thanks

Maerchentante · 27/06/2020 14:28

Asking people who say transphobia is rife on MN to provide examples is like asking people who make outrageous claims on FB to provide prove of those.
They simply won't deliver, the best they'll come up with is "Why don't you google/look it up yourself?"

Milicentbystander72 · 27/06/2020 14:29

Maudspellbody amazing post! it's what I think and feel but could never explain it as well as that.

Notahandmaid · 27/06/2020 14:34

Hi @Glinner
So sorry to hear you've been suspended from Twitter. I hope it's not permanent.

I am so grateful to you for speaking out and I wish more people would.

I believe that, in years to come, people will see sense and will look back at these years and see the utter madness. Until then though, we will have to keep on keeping on.

I am so grateful to you and anyone (like JKR) who is willing to put their head above the parapet and speak out.

I hope you are ok.

AnnaPosie · 27/06/2020 14:34

@specialconnection I see what you are saying, I didn't realize there were thread like this on here , as pointed out earlier I just post on the Parenthood and has never ventured past that, I had read online he posted on Mumsnet so I searched his name and this thread came up. So yup I agree, I would never try and limit what people talk about but I don't support people who promote hate which he does as can be evident from his tweets , he wouldn't have been removed otherwise.

DuineArBith · 27/06/2020 14:34

So the argument is about the limits of free speech.

No, it isn't. Free speech doesn't mean an automatic right to any and every platform you choose to use. Twitter is a private company and has every right to control who uses it, just as MN does. As was pointed out in relation to Katie Hopkins, there is no human right to post on Twitter.

Billben · 27/06/2020 14:36

AnnaPosie

Are you a bit confused today? 🤣
You may not want Glinner her but a lot of us do. So I suggest you either scroll by the posts you don’t like or sling your hook off to another board

Datun · 27/06/2020 14:41

I don't support people who promote hate which he does as can be evident from his tweets , he wouldn't have been removed otherwise.

I'm afraid you're misinformed.

Megan Murphy has been banned from Twitter for the words 'that's him'. Referring to one Jessica Yaniv, a transwoman who takes photographs of young girls in toilets, and talks about wanting to help 10-year-olds insert their Tampax.

A woman up thread was suspended after reporting the accounts of out and proud paedophiles.

ItsLateHumpty · 27/06/2020 14:41

Glinner the beginning of this thread was rough. I actually hope you missed most of it - unedifying rants to say the least, but I’ll hold on to the archive I have of the first 20 posts because you never know.

The sound and fury can only signify that you mattered and it seems they still miss you this morning.

MN FWR regulars - a den of viperous gin hounds, bloody awesome!

GimmeAy · 27/06/2020 14:42

I think it takes a lot to get banned off Twitter so I'd suggest you re-think whatever you're putting forward as it's obviously not considered acceptable - just think on that for a minute. Don't come crying to the masses on MN. Particularly those on FWR which seems to me to be inundated with transphobes. Try AIBU.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 14:42

@DuineArBith

This is a really stupid argument when it comes to massive social media companies.

The reason people campaign to have people removed from Twitter is not because they are concerned about a private company's terms of service, but because they want certain views to be silenced.

Demanding censorship and then pretending it is nothing but a bit of insignificant rule making by a private company is dishonest.

Social media companies are an online public sphere, and they should be treated as such.

GimmeAy · 27/06/2020 14:43

Do you want to post up here what you were banned for?

PyongyangKipperbang · 27/06/2020 14:44
