Twitter has suspended me

999 replies

Glinner · 27/06/2020 03:16

I'm really sorry to barge in on you Mumsnettters with my problems, but
I've been finally suspended from Twitter and I have a feeling they're either going to ban me or just take my verified tick. I've submitted an appeal with Twitter and the Better Business Bureau but I thought I'd post here too so people knew what was going on.

Recently, I keep being locked out of my account and forced to delete tweets to get back in. The latest tactic by trans rights activists is to run a search for any time I've used the word 'groomer', a phrase Twitter recently decided was Not Allowed.

This was not a violation of Twitter's ToS at the time I used the phrase, and I have been careful to avoid it since. I still use the word 'grooming' in various permutations because I believe that gender ideology is a form of societal grooming. It is a very real threat to the wellbeing of women and children and if our ability to name a threat is removed, it is even more difficult to fight that threat.

You may remember that Twitter similarly removed Canadian feminist Meghan Murphy. She lost her account when she said "that's him" about 'Jessica' Yaniv. Bear in mind that Yaniv was still going under 'Jonathan' at the time, and just as in my case, her crime against Twitter's Terms of Service was not actually an offence at the time she committed it. She probably never thought she could be banned from the public square for uttering the words "that's him". But that's Twitter.

Twitter has a high percentage of trans-identified employees and for some time has been silencing feminists and their allies who run afoul of its absurd 'misgendering' policies. The one good thing about my situation is that I'm in great company--Claire Graham, Meghan Murphy, Skylar Gwynn, Miranda Yardley, GNC Centric and many more, important feminist and critical voices who have been silenced for fighting a dangerous ideology that tells children it's possible to be born into the wrong body.

Anyway, that's what's happening. Please let people know it's entirely down to malicious reporting from the usual suspects and please keep watching my YouTube Channel and visiting my depressing blog. I'll also be available on Glindr if people from Twitter want to re-establish contact there. Hope it's ok to post these links to those destinations

Thanks for all the support, and thanks for letting me fight alongside you.

Newspeak or no speak.

Opinion is thoughtcrime.

nauticant · 27/06/2020 13:52

I was so annoyed I couldn't even parse my own post:

The sheer toxic spite of the made-up screenshots is I linked to is astonishing.

Also noteworthy is the complete lack of the sharers stopping for one second and asking the question "is it real?". They just don't care. Anything can be justified if it destroys the opposition.

This is what is driving many people many in their campaigning to get safeguarding removed around women's single sex spaces and around children.

BaronessWrongCrowd · 27/06/2020 13:52

Snowsuit many of of the women here do real life activism. Not just ramble incoherently on the internet. We face losing our jobs, being harassed and abuse because we know biology to be true. We work behind the scenes. What do you do?

snowbiz28 · 27/06/2020 13:53

Embarrassed at my naivety and grateful to have found this thread. Both my young adult daughters are watching Glinner's video and we will be talking about it after.

Kit19 · 27/06/2020 13:53

You don’t speak for me Anna - I want him here

Cleebope2 · 27/06/2020 13:53

Full support for GL and JKR and others who put themselves in the firing line to stand up for women’s rights. You’re much more courageous than me.Thank you.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 27/06/2020 13:54

Dear Daily Fail, it might be named Mumsnet but it's very clear that it's 'by parents, for parents'. And tbh, it's more inclusive than that, you just need to not be anti-parents or anti-children. Glinner is more than welcome here.

Nihiloxica · 27/06/2020 13:55

@Kit19

You don’t speak for me Anna - I want him here
I do too.
TheShoesa · 27/06/2020 13:55

@Glinner

Another one saying a huge thanks for your part in bringing the issues to a wider audience.

Just a point to a PP - Mumsnet has people from all walks of life, people of both sexes, any number of genders. It isn't just a place for discussing motherhood!

I joined when I was pregnant and stayed for childcare advice. Then ended up on FWR with my jaw dropping further and further at what I was reading. Thanks to the diverse range of voices I have learnt an awful lot about all sorts of things. I DO want voices that say things I disagree with, it's how I get to see things from a different perspective

WipeYourFeet · 27/06/2020 13:55

@AnnaPosie

Why can't you just go and setup your own website instead of coming to a site that you have no place on , I come here to discuss Parenthood and topics relating to this, I do not want your transphobic comments here.

Twitter is a company , they have guidelines, they clearly are with odds with your views on life. I'm all for free speech but not facilitating hate speech. We really don't need you and your views on this platform.

Then stick to the topics you like Anna & stay off the threads you don't! It's simple really.

I'm not interested in The Royals & that has nothing to do with parenting - should that not be in Mumsnet too?!

Glinner - you're welcome here, to me anyway.

BaronessWrongCrowd · 27/06/2020 13:56

I suspect Anna wrote the post for a screen shot.

toolatetooearly · 27/06/2020 13:56

This whole issue/debate is very confusing to me. I find myself agreeing with arguments on both sides and never know where I should stand. Not a fan of anyone getting banned for speaking their mind though (within certain limits that I suspect weren't breached here)

ChipsyChopsy · 27/06/2020 13:57

@Glinner Welcome

LillianBland · 27/06/2020 13:58

@SusieOwl4

Bad reporting by the daily fail about this thread.

“ Mr Linehan should not be writing in a 'women's space'.

She wrote: 'Sorry who are you and why should I care that you have been banned from Twitter?

'You seem to be a man by the looks of it so why are you posting in a feminism forum?

'This is a female space.'

And nothing about the supportive posts. Typical

That’s the trouble with media today.

That’s a TRA troll. They’ve even went back to twatter to boast about it.
TheShoesa · 27/06/2020 13:58

@BaronessWrongCrowd

I suspect Anna wrote the post for a screen shot.
Me too

And Anna doesn't speak for me - if it wasn't clear enough from my post.

SocialConnection · 27/06/2020 13:58

Some interesting Twitstats here.

Thank you @Glinner

BaronessWrongCrowd · 27/06/2020 13:58

@glinner Hi Graham, just to warn you that direct links to crowdfunders aren't allowed on the threads they get removed. Don't want you to get deleted!

Cecily75 · 27/06/2020 13:59

@AnnaPosie

Examples of "transphobic comments" pls?

An AS shows that you've previously only posted on the Conception board. If that's important to you, don't you think you should be biologically truthful and acknowledge what a woman is - and that a lot of trans activism actively erodes the meaning and rights of womanhood.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 27/06/2020 14:00

Actually annaposie raises a very pertinent point. She suggests glinner isn’t a woman and goes on to suggest he sets up another inline space - a THIRD space if you will - post twitter + mn.

😉

BoreOfWhabylon · 27/06/2020 14:00

[quote NotBadConsidering]From the Daily Mail article:

One person responded to the post saying Mr Linehan should not be writing in a 'women's space'.

She wrote: 'Sorry who are you and why should I care that you have been banned from Twitter? 'You seem to be a man by the looks of it so why are you posting in a feminism forum? 'This is a female space.'

For Daily Mail writers and everyone else, this was that poster, someone who created an account for the purpose of posting that:

Another quote from that poster

Guess what. You don’t get to bully people off here, the way twitter bully GC people off twitter. Read the room, sweetie.
darkhall · 27/06/2020 14:02

Glinner repeatedly said he knew he was on the verge of getting a suspension or a ban on Twitter, knowing he was violating their TOS.

They're a private company, you agree to their TOS when you sign up. You violate it, they'll suspend or ban you.

Posting photos of people and mocking them is a violation of the TOS. Repeatedly @'ing people when they've asked you to stop is a violation. Falsely accusing people of being pedo "groomers" is a violation. You got banned, just like you suspected you would.

There's not really a censorship or free speech issue here.

Nobody cares what you want.

SocialConnection · 27/06/2020 14:05

@AnnaPosie This is the Feminism area, not the parenting etc area. There's areas for books, TV, health etc etc etc too, which don't focus parenting. We're in the Feminism chat because we want to discuss feminist issues.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 27/06/2020 14:07

Sixteen years ago I came to MN for the baby advice. These days I'm here for the feminism (& having interesting conversations with that baby about feminism!).

But the baby boards are still there, I believe, for anyone who needs them. Whether they believe in women's rights or not.
