Twitter has suspended me

999 replies

Glinner · 27/06/2020 03:16

I'm really sorry to barge in on you Mumsnettters with my problems, but
I've been finally suspended from Twitter and I have a feeling they're either going to ban me or just take my verified tick. I've submitted an appeal with Twitter and the Better Business Bureau but I thought I'd post here too so people knew what was going on.

Recently, I keep being locked out of my account and forced to delete tweets to get back in. The latest tactic by trans rights activists is to run a search for any time I've used the word 'groomer', a phrase Twitter recently decided was Not Allowed.

This was not a violation of Twitter's ToS at the time I used the phrase, and I have been careful to avoid it since. I still use the word 'grooming' in various permutations because I believe that gender ideology is a form of societal grooming. It is a very real threat to the wellbeing of women and children and if our ability to name a threat is removed, it is even more difficult to fight that threat.

You may remember that Twitter similarly removed Canadian feminist Meghan Murphy. She lost her account when she said "that's him" about 'Jessica' Yaniv. Bear in mind that Yaniv was still going under 'Jonathan' at the time, and just as in my case, her crime against Twitter's Terms of Service was not actually an offence at the time she committed it. She probably never thought she could be banned from the public square for uttering the words "that's him". But that's Twitter.

Twitter has a high percentage of trans-identified employees and for some time has been silencing feminists and their allies who run afoul of its absurd 'misgendering' policies. The one good thing about my situation is that I'm in great company--Claire Graham, Meghan Murphy, Skylar Gwynn, Miranda Yardley, GNC Centric and many more, important feminist and critical voices who have been silenced for fighting a dangerous ideology that tells children it's possible to be born into the wrong body.

Anyway, that's what's happening. Please let people know it's entirely down to malicious reporting from the usual suspects and please keep watching my YouTube Channel and visiting my depressing blog. I'll also be available on Glindr if people from Twitter want to re-establish contact there. Hope it's ok to post these links to those destinations

@MrBennsshop

You might have missed it, so just in case, the law has changed for #Trans folks. If you care to give the 2010 GRA a look, it's all in there.

I've looked very carefully but am struggling to find a 2010 GRA. Would you be so kind as to point me towards it please? Perhaps you're getting a bit mixed up and you're thinking that the Equality Act 2010 is just for the benefit of trans folk. I can help you with that. Sex is a protected characteristic....

Keep going @Glinner, we appreciate your support.

We don't know what country that poster is in. But they're obviously not talking about the UK. There are other GRAs in other countries, such as the 2015 GRA in Ireland - which includes some of the changes we're trying to avoid being made to the GRA in the UK.

Which country are you talking about @Reuniono?

Stand corrected. But you know, still there, in legislation and all that.

AudacityOfHope · 27/06/2020 10:50

Well, this thread was a hot mess for a while! Glad it's still standing though.

I so wish I could remove myself from the cesspools of Twitter and Facebook but I know it would make fuck all difference and there are things still worth standing up for. When we're allowed to, of course.

Yeah @Glinner that pronoun thing you did in your bio will certainly annoy or offend lots of people! The thing is, I'm not sure that this kind of flippant humour method will help here. You will be labelled as being insensitive, however unjust you think that may be. It will be used by others against you and help up as an example of the sort of terrible thing they're talking about. I saw your appearance on the BBC and felt that you spoke really well on there, especially given the hostile nature of the interview.

InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 27/06/2020 10:51

Wow - so many deleted posts. I wonder if it was getting a bit warm overnight in all of those basements?

Toomanynotes · 27/06/2020 10:51

Thank you Glinner. It's great what you do.

Kit19 · 27/06/2020 10:52

How lucky that on FWR posters spotting transphobic posts can report them instantly with the click of a button

Moving on from the obvious under bridge dwellers, Twitter is fast disappearing in an ever faster cycle of craziness - I’ve noticed an increase in the number of ppl who’ve quit recently

Glinner thank you for everything you’ve done to shine sunlight on this perfect storm & whether or not you come back to Twitter in the end, the curtains can’t now be dropped back in place to block it out

Just adding my voice to those in support of @Glinner. I have never seen a thread with so many deleted messages on it before (obviously I’m late to the bro party). I honestly don’t know how you can handle twitter for any extended period of time. It’s utterly vile. I blocked it on my phone yesterday to stop myself obsessively reading each new piece of hideousness, only a very small number of which were directed at me. Am considering Parler, which I see is being branded as “far right” which these days seems to be code for “believes in biology and the hopeful possibility of white people not being all inherently and irretrievably racist”.

Thanks @Glinner for your support.

Cecily75 · 27/06/2020 10:53

@Glinner thank you for all your efforts Brew Take care now.

It's a shame that what could and should be, an interesting platform, Twitter, has turned into such a useless pile of shit. They are wrong to ban you.

drinkingwineoutofamug · 27/06/2020 10:53

@Glinner

Bullshit, Reunuio. Correctly sexing men is important for the safety of women and girls.

I see that this thread is trending on the sidebar, right now in top position! Sunlight! And it was sent to me in an email from one of the media I subscribe to. More sunlight!

@midclegs

Adding my support *@glinner* ESPECIALLY after seeing this just now on Twitter
Bloody hell that is sinister. They are going to have a huge shock when they realise that we won't just roll over an accept being railroaded out of rights.
InTheShadowOfTheMushroomCloud · 27/06/2020 10:57

@gemashlou

I think this has been a long time coming and is thoroughly deserved. Linehan has kept up an obsessive campaign of hate against trans people for a long time, it can't be any good for him, and it certainly isn't good for trans people.

I really hope that it can be acknowledged that not everyone on mumsnet agrees with Linehan, I've found MN really helpful when it comes to TTC, this sort of nastiness is what gives MN a bad name.

Nah...he has kept up a campaign supporting women and girls.
BertBox · 27/06/2020 10:57

Thank you Glinner. It feels like there’s no accountable adults anywhere at the moment.

jellybe · 27/06/2020 10:57

As in the quote from twitter not your support Glinner.

Dances · 27/06/2020 10:57

MN doesn't have a bad name.

MN rocks

Onthebrink87 · 27/06/2020 10:57

Fucking nora! Can't we set up some sort of fundraiser to create a channel that puts on kpop concerts through the night to keep the kids of the internet?

I think as my children get older I'll be testing IQ and common sense incrementally so I know if I need to withhold the Wi-Fi password 😂

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 27/06/2020 10:58

"Mumsnet" seems like a perfectly good name for a site intended to support mothers.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 27/06/2020 10:59

Saying no, having boundaries and not accepting the erasure of women isn't 'hate'. The attacks on JKR, the abuse of vulnerable women in prison, the physical assaults, the death and rape threats - there's your 'hate'.

AllCatsAreBeautiful · 27/06/2020 10:59

I’m glad to see that Glinner has finally been banned from twitter. Calling people you disagree with “groomer” should be against everyone’s values. Calling LGBTQ people “groomers” is a version of the slur that gay men are paedophiles. It’s disgusting and as I say, I’m glad to see that twitter has finally taken action.

One of glinner’s main “feminist actions” on twitter was shouting at women and women’s groups who disagree with him. I don’t think a man should get to shout at women about feminism. It was gross how he called the Irish Abortion Rights campaign “traitors”. The way he has been treating Josie Long should have been enough to ban him even without all the rest.
