The ever entertaining TRA power couple Fox and Owl were apparently represented by the same agents as the wonderful Ms Rowling.

They, along with some bloke called Drew Davies, have severed ties because the agents refused to issue a public statement slagging off their biggest client.

Being bastions of professionalism they left by telling the guardian.

Does anyone have a share token?

LetGoOfTheLittleDistractions · 24/06/2020 14:53

Thanks. Interesting comments. Nearly all on the side of JK and her right to state an opinion - the opinion most people agree with. A very different picture from a year or so ago.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 24/06/2020 14:58

Interesting comments (as we have come to expect from the Times)!

The ‘wrong crowd’ used to mean juvenile delinquents and druggies, now it’s been reassigned to mean Times readers and Mumsnet users 😂

In the third paragraph The Times appear to have referred to Fox as ‘she’!

Michelleoftheresistance · 24/06/2020 15:11

generating her opinions from sources in non-transgender circles.

Oh good grief. Confused That's actually deranged.

This individual feels entitled to try and dictate that as a female, Rowling may not generate any opinion from any sources about being female and needing sex based rights from non-transgender circles?

It's gobsmacking. I can't find anything else to say that isn't deletable, but this person is not well.

Shockedandbeffudled · 24/06/2020 15:35

It’s ironic isn’t it - Fox and Owl would almost certainly never get anything published or an agent, if they were not trans gender.

Their whole body of work is about trans issues. A transphobic agent or publisher wouldn’t have taken them on in the first place.

TorkTorkBam · 24/06/2020 15:39

We know that JKR had made a point of talking to lots of people who are or were trans. Her twitter has plenty of them being friendly, supportive and sometimes challenging.

TheSingingKettle49 · 24/06/2020 15:46

@Shockedandbeffudled exactly! They’ve taken away their own voices from publishing thereby reducing the number of trans authors.

I should imagine the agency already has equality training in place covering all the protected characteristics from the equality act, so didn’t really want to waste half a day and whatever the fee is on one specific trans training session. Every company I’ve ever worked for has had equality training, and I’m sure you’re much more likely to meet someone who falls into one of the other 8 protected categories than a trans person anyway.

"Fish" Grin

Omg they're so crap they can't even get their own activist's name down accurately Grin

AbsintheFriends · 24/06/2020 16:11

"I just think that if she opened her eyes and saw transgender women as women then we'd be able to move forward"

How many fingers am I holding up Winston?

IsMiseMorag · 24/06/2020 16:12

"Even combined we'd never have the same sales as she does."

I think this is my fave line yet.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 24/06/2020 16:16

You 4 combined with every other person signed to your agency or publisher, then? Yep, still not even close.

This is not because there's a conspiracy to keep trans writers down, it's because she can write and you can't.

Um, is it only me who is thinking Fox was assigned female at birth and we know there are some who like to insult females as being fishy.

Maybe Fish is Fox's nickname at Pink News.

You can't identify out of sexist abuse from men, Fox, however much you wish you can.

Whats that bloke from Marilion said now?

Kantastic · 24/06/2020 16:19

Fish

Fox is the biologically female one of the charming woodland couple, right? Is that some drag lingo Freudian-slipping in? Prick News hate women and barely bother to hide it.

HelloMissus · 24/06/2020 16:20

There is another author in the Blair stable who is very vocally pro trans - calling anyone who dares a different opinion a TERF.
I notice she’s very quiet about this cos I can’t see she’s left the agency.
Turns out her group-think vitriol isn’t as strong as her ambition to be a writer Wink

Kantastic · 24/06/2020 16:21

"Trans Teen Survival Guide by Fox and Owl

I was curious what's being peddled to teens, so I got the book. I'm only a few pages in and pretty horrified, so I thought I'd share it with you lot.

(This might take some time though, I don't have a lot of free time right now!)

Even the inscription is enraging. The book is dedicated to their trans friend who committed suicide. It's not a subtle few words, it's a whol page including a cartoon of this person with a halo. And it says the book is based on the blog they wrote on tumblr.

While of course I'm sad for Fox and Owl that their friend died, and I recognise that to lose someone to suicide is a terrible trauma I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, I also think it's deeply irresponsible to start a book aimed at teenagers, lauding someone who killed themselves - especially given the popular myths and misuse of suicide stats about trans kids.

It makes me suspicious of the book before we've even started. What kind of propaganda lies within?"

Why is it not vixen / owl hen - sorry I forget which is which.

Shock

That's really telling, if true.

Siablue · 24/06/2020 16:37

Interestingly Evanna Lynch is also with the Blair Partnership. She has only published one essay but it says she is writing a book. I wonder if JKR helped her get an agent.

I wonder if Fox and Owl contacted all the other authors at the agency and asked them to be part of their protest. There are some famous names (Sir Chris Hoy). It does sound like they did expect everyone to walk out on their agent with them.

They will be alright. You don’t need an agent for non fiction. I don’t have one. I know people who got published by their publisher without one.
