the conversion therapy bill includes gender identity

Not good. Because we all know that standard psychotherapy, where kids have a chance to explore the many factors that may be influencing a cross-sex identity before taking serious and irrevocable steps in that directions, is considered 'gender conversion therapy.'

There needs to be a clear distinction made that this ONLY refers to gay and lesbian conversion 'therapy'.

You are all brilliant brave women and I love you all ThanksThanksThanksWineWineWine

Well done us. (Assuming it pans out 😬)

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 13/06/2020 23:13

Yeah, I'm thinking that Starmer will make all the right noises about how disappointed in the nasty party he is but won't actually do much to interfere since he doesn't seem to be a gender true believer. In a lot of ways this is exactly the excuse to get the Labour party out of the mess the gender fanatics have created for it he's probably been hoping for.

FantaOra · 13/06/2020 23:13

It's going to be very entertaining watching Labour rip themselves apart over this.

Hahahaha.

OhHolyJesus · 13/06/2020 23:13

334 we are with you in Scot although I think this will make the SNP more determined.

Awaiting news of how to help with bated breath.

RedToothBrush · 13/06/2020 23:15

Do we know Starmer’s stance?

Yes. Its "oh fuck, now I'm going to have to get off the fence". He's a human rights lawyer so should know this subject is one's not one for the wokeparrots.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 13/06/2020 23:15

FRONT FUCKING PAGE!!!!!
Of the Sunday Times!

Yes yes yes!! Fucking YES!!

I'm going to write to my (Tory) MP on this again. Last wrote to him at election time, he was very much fence sitting, but hopefully with this plus JKR he will be more likely to engage one way or the other. There's been a couple of Tory backbenchers who've come out on this I think, so I can point those out to him too.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 13/06/2020 23:17

Having squinted my way through a read on screen it has touched on all the main talking points with clear language that will resonate hugely with people who don't know much about the issue.

  • Women only facilities will be protected
  • Can't change BC without medical diagnosis
  • Stop women's refuges being used by people with male anatomy
  • ensure reputable doctors, not quacks

...and that's just column 1. All of this is the kind of "er, duh, of course" content.

Thelnebriati · 13/06/2020 23:18

The last few years have been so bad that I hardly dare believe it.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 13/06/2020 23:18

I didn't see anything about prisons but hopefully that will be in there too.

Wolfgirrl · 13/06/2020 23:19

I found this article which shares some more detail.

According to The Sunday Times, around 100,000 responses to the public consultation were received – with around 70% in favour of allowing people to self-identify as a man or a woman.

However, officials were said to believe that the results had been “skewed” by an “avalanche” of responses generated by trans rights groups.

TheIncredibleBookEatingManchot · 13/06/2020 23:20

Debbie Hayton has posted a picture of the Times article which is just about large enough to read.

No show without Punch.

stumbledin · 13/06/2020 23:22

I cant believe you have all fallen for this.

There is no evidence that the Tories are going to do this.

This is just the Times trying to push the Tories as they did back in February.

How can any of you actually believe this is going to happen just like that.

Get a grip.

Wolfgirrl · 13/06/2020 23:24

@stumbledin

Even if it is, it is opening the conversation and putting pressure on Johnson to address the issue. That's a step in the right direction surely.

NotAssigned · 13/06/2020 23:24

The TRAs are going to be apoplectic. If it had gone the other way and they had said 70pc of replies had been against self ID but it was spammed by women's place etc we would be fucking livid so expect the backlash in 3, 2, 1...

HeyBells · 13/06/2020 23:24

OK so a leaked draft paper due for publication in July. I don't recall what was said before as mentioned by stumbledin so am not aware if it's any different, but it broadly looks promising.

Get a grip.

Who pissed on your chips so badly you felt the urge to come scold us for it?

EmpressLangClegInChair · 13/06/2020 23:25

Labour, LibDems and Greens all stated explicitly that they didn’t want GC women to vote for them.

Fancify · 13/06/2020 23:26

Thank fuck

stumbledin · 13/06/2020 23:27

ITV is saying:

"According to The Sunday Times, around 100,000 responses to the public consultation were received – with around 70% in favour of allowing people to self-identify as a man or a woman."

Do you honestly think the Tories inthe middle of a pandemic and Brexit to be sorted is going to make this a priority - and in the face of the criticism they will get for over turning a 70% majority.

Just stop and think what that means.

Despite all the effort on any number of women's groups and mumsnet over 70% said yes to self ID.

ie that means only 30% of the response did not support this.

this is a disaster and indicates that despite all the effort to campaign on women's rights, 70% of people did not find the arguement for women's rights worth listening to!

If as the article says they will publish the results at the end of July expect and avalanche of most newspapers, all political parties let alone social media warriors dancing with glee that GC women lost the arguement.

Sad Angry

Thelnebriati · 13/06/2020 23:28

The article says the plans have been scrapped and ''gay cure therapies'' along with them.
New protections for women only spaces including refuges and toilets.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 13/06/2020 23:30

It almost doesn't matter. It's the FRONT PAGE of the Sunday Times. And every ordinary person* with no previous knowledge of this will read that and go, fuck me, what the hell is going on? Of course do that! Why are men with dicks going into women's toilets and refuges and prisons? Is this why JK Rowling is getting a load of shit online?

Sunlight, sunlight, sunlight.

*Tory voting, or likely to be amenable to Tory voting, if they are reading the Times.

Thelnebriati · 13/06/2020 23:32

Liz Truss will publish at the end of July just before MP's go for their summer break.
The current system will stay and there's nothing about abolishing the GRA. So its still not clear if a GRC will allow someone with male genitals and a female birth certificate to use a single sex space.
I hope they deal with that issue, organisations need clear guidelines.

So its a boundary, but we might still have some work to do to reclaim what we have lost.
