Sunday Times: PM to scrap plan to make gender change easier
HandsOffMyRights · 14/06/2020 00:40

Pinkyyy

There is some background info here fairplayforwomen.com/campaigns/gra-reform/

I saw from your previous thrrad that you are new to this and the site will be a good starting point, along with MN of course!

HandsOffMyRights · 14/06/2020 00:41

Campervan
That Tweet from Helen I makes me happy.
How very dare we!!!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 14/06/2020 00:44

Campervan don't tell Helen that some of that money came from paid up members of the Labour Party. It might make her combust.

ethelredonagoodday · 14/06/2020 00:49

I've emailed my Tory MP and also Kier Starmer voicing my support for this. I've also said that they should consider whether it's appropriate for schools to use classroom materials developed by pressure groups.

DisobedientHamster · 14/06/2020 00:53

Hooray!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 14/06/2020 00:54

I'll be emailing on Monday, DD will be back in school and I'll be able to think straight. Will go buy the Times tomorrow though.

Will be emailing:

My MP (Tory backbencher)
Liz Truss
The baroness
Keir Starmer

Who else would be a good idea?

NotBadConsidering · 14/06/2020 00:57

The Times have obviously become bored of Debbie Hayton being their go-to male for opinion on such matters, so they’ve asked someone else:

From Rebecca Roots' column, link above :

' They presume the proposed regime will open up a flood of sex attacks on cisgender women (natal females) perpetrated by trans women.'

See, that is just a lie, isn't it? It's MEN that are the problem, isn't it? Why is this always the lie told?

LetGoOfTheLittleDistractions · 14/06/2020 01:17

I’m placemarking to come back in a bit and read the thread, have just seen the headline and came straight here.
Amazing news. I know it’s not over yet but right now I feel so relieved. Gin anyone?

MrsPeacockInTheLibrary · 14/06/2020 01:22

I'm a Labour party member - I want to raise this/ write on it. What should I prioritise?

Ginkypig · 14/06/2020 01:24

@OhHolyJesus

334 we are with you in Scot although I think this will make the SNP more determined.

Awaiting news of how to help with bated breath.

All I can think is fuck it's going to make them deliberately dig their heels in just to spite England but I hop I'm wrong!

I have to believe that they are better than that. That the Scottish government are logical enough and have enough critical thought and clever people that they won't fuck us over.

YourVagesty · 14/06/2020 01:30

Currently 96% . Wow!

rabbitwoman · 14/06/2020 01:33

Oh, wait for a bit before celebrating 96% because there will be a load of TRAs directing their followers to the Times poll and I doubt it will be 96% for long.....

OldCrone · 14/06/2020 01:37

I don't know why people like Root find something as simple as this so difficult to understand.

If we have a law that says everyone can choose which sex they want to be legally recognised as, some men will choose to be legally recognised as women, not because they have gender dysphoria or because they believe they have a female 'gender identity', but simply because they think it will give them easier access to women.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 14/06/2020 01:41

From the Rebecca Roots article

Self-identity is about giving people of all gender expressions the right to live without having to justify their existence, in their own skin and in peace

No one gives a shit about anyone's identity. We don't care what they wear or what they are called.
We want sex separated spaces. Acknowledgement of the difference between sex and 'gender'
Stop forcing an ideology that few believe on the rest of us.
Fuck off with the cis shite. Be trans. We don't need to declare we are 'not trans'

boatyardblues · 14/06/2020 01:48

Poll now 96% no, 4% yes. 1,482 votes.

FlamedToACrisp · 14/06/2020 02:00

The right to live in peace?

Would these be the same people who post all those vicious anti-TuRF threats?

(anyone got a link to that site which collects them all?)

Datun · 14/06/2020 02:27

Yet self-identity isn’t about giving men a licence to put on a dress and call themselves women in order to rape and attack females. Self-identity is about giving people of all gender expressions the right to live without having to justify their existence, in their own skin and in peace.

Tell that to all the 'choke on my dick and die' transactivists threatening every woman they can with rape.

Strewth. It's tedious.

Becles · 14/06/2020 02:37

The frothing on Twitter has been delightful. I'm buying a couple of copies of the Times to boost the circulation and encourage them to publish more articles like this Grin

nettie434 · 14/06/2020 02:48

this is a disaster and indicates that despite all the effort to campaign on women's rights, 70% of people did not find the arguement for women's rights worth listening to!

I only knew about the consultation because I read about it on here. By contrast, there were plenty of template responses from other groups advocating change so I am not surprised at the 70:30 split at all. I don't think we know the number of responses received to the consultation either. That's usually reported in the government's response to a consultation. It usually is not a huge number. It's not like a poll based on a random sample. The 'disaster' is that the consultation was highjacked, given that consultations are meant to be a mechanism for capturing what a range of groups and individuals think.

I don't see why the government wouldn't act as the report suggests. It will embarrass the opposition, irritate local Labour and Lib Dem councils (Leeds and Cambridge, I am looking at you here for your particularly intolerant responses) and actually has very few revenue implications at a national level. It's all gain from their perspective.

Musicforsmorks · 14/06/2020 02:52

So, yal’ll tory friends again now.

confusedandtired99 · 14/06/2020 02:56

Good news! I hope!

Datun · 14/06/2020 03:27

There is no way a 70/30 split in favour of self id is a genuine representation of the public's view. No-one wants it.

And the government knows that or they would be implementing it.

They have actually said, in public, that the consultation was gamed.

I seriously doubt that many TRAs spent time and effort genuinely completing it. And even if they did, we know they have no sensible argument.

The actual verifiable and rational content of the responses would speak for itself.
