I for one love the writings of a select few of the Spectator journalists so (if you're reading this Julie) I think kudos to her for this being published here, many of my more woke friends have left reading the Guardian and BBC because of horrendous CV-19 reporting.

IMO it doesn't seem healthy for women who make a lot of money from OnlyFans etc to be bragging about how they dropped out of Uni to make tonnes of money every month (far more than if they had gotten a job that needs a degree) just by posting explicit content of themselves online. It isn't really a healthy message to be putting out there and these women aren't exactly role models.

Lot's of work isn't empowering. I think the point is that it's also an untrue claim to make about sex work.

I used to think like that. And then i met girls who do post photos on onlyfans and have mortgages paid off in their early 20s and make more money than i can dream of. As another poster said ehats empowering about any other type of work like call center or care work or supermarket shelf stacker? Uni is usless for most now unless you are going into a very specific field and most of uni culture is focused on alcohol and sex so i see no difference. Also why can women not feel empowered that people desire their body? In roman time anything went both male and female yet now everything is taboo.

What disturbs me is that these supposed serious journalists write the articles as if they were a get rich quick advertisement/scam. It’s like they’re trying to get young women to start selling nudes. They never publish stories from women struggling on UC and working in a care home because they sold nudes for five years but then the money all went to beauty procedures and costumes for the next series’s of nudes until they were old news and the audience had moved on to the next (younger) hot girl. No, they always interview these women at the height of their popularity when it all seems so easy and like the money will just keep coming in.

There is also the fact that these women are complicit in the objectification and demeaning of all women. They perpetuate the patriarchal view of women as pieces of meat, available for rent. I see them as traitors to feminism. And pathetically deluded if they think this is “empowering” in any way whatsoever.
And as for the money - “What profit it a (wo)man if (s)he gain the whole world but lose her soul?” Self respect is beyond price.

Given the stories of the women Bindel met, the GBP30,000 claim sounds like one of those pyramid scheme come-ons. If it was that easy to make that kind of money, she wouldn't be the only one doing it.

The women who make the most money sell images of themselves with absurdly large objects in them (including hands) usually more than one orifice at the same time and/ or there is piss or shit involved.

Its not ironic at all. Im in a relationship aka a partnership. We make decisions together. If i want to make money in a different way to normal i need to discuss it with my partner the same way he is expected to tell me if he is planning an alternative means to make money.

I know a girl who created a platform similar to only fans and she has made millions from it. She takes a percentage of earnings from all of the people who use the platform for their own images and videos, along with the subscription fees from those who watch the content. She still posts her own content too which is exactly the same as all other content I’ve seen on there- mostly nudes, some videos, including solo masturbation, and sex with her partner. There’s a huge variety of content on there but it’s mostly mild. Quite a lot of girls already ‘instagram famous’ use it to boost their earnings and can make a lot doing very little off the back of their already established profiles. It wasn’t particularly common when I was younger and the content was more explicit then as it tended to be utilised by already established porn stars. If anything the more widespread popularity of such sites seems to have resulted in more people doing it but creating less explicit content.

Totally agree. If you watch "Hor Girls Wanted" the producers were paying a college student to be a referee to talk to interested girls and spin how much she earnt and how great the work was.

I just want to add to my previous comment about this.
I've just searched Onlyfans and a few choice tags and exactly what I thought would appear did. Took me 5 seconds to find.

The fact that this is feeding the patriarchy should be enough to stop women selling themselves. It makes me feel sad. As does this tweet

n00bMaster69 I have had access to the platform so yes I have seen the paid for images. As I said it’s not only fans so I can’t speak for that but I know that both models are very similar. I’m also not saying that sort of content won’t be there, I’m sure most genres and predilections are covered, however the girls I know who make content aren’t doing anything particularly hardcore. The people I know who are utilising it mainly have careers within the industry anyway- several lap dancers and a high end escort, they use the site as an additional income stream which relates to the work they are already undertaking. They are very much in control of what they do and don’t produce and they make thousands from it. I’m an ex lap dancer myself and still have friends within the industry hence my ‘knowing a girl who made a fortune from it’.
