Someone may have already posted this (sorry, working stupid hrs at the moment, haven't been keeping up) but has anyone seen Julie B's latest article? The comments on the Twitter feed are disgusting. I've only had a 3 min look but ugh.

I for one love the writings of a select few of the Spectator journalists so (if you're reading this Julie) I think kudos to her for this being published here, many of my more woke friends have left reading the Guardian and BBC because of horrendous CV-19 reporting.

Maybe your DP could sell nude photos of himself? I’m stuck in and just got paid would he like to be empowered?

n00bMaster69 · 17/04/2020 15:14

Mmhmm. What's the name of it KatesMott?

Santaclauswhosthat · 17/04/2020 15:18

Escorts are always "high end" in posts talking about how great prostitution is for women. 🙄

Anyway, I agree with @Delirium. I'd like to empower your dp by paying him to put a hoover up his ringpiece.

KatesMott · 17/04/2020 15:20

n00bMaster69 I’d rather not say and have it linked to my information however it’s very easily searchable as the woman who owns it does a lot of press showing how she’s a self made millionaire from it. She’s an ex lap dancer herself.

KatesMott · 17/04/2020 15:25

Santaclauswhosthat

Escorts are always "high end" in posts talking about how great prostitution is for women. 🙄

She earned £10,000 from her last ‘job’ and has a huge portfolio of very wealthy clients. She works entirely for herself too. They are just facts. Was just trying to give an idea of background

Santaclauswhosthat · 17/04/2020 15:25

Yep.

KatesMott · 17/04/2020 15:26

Also I’m not sure where I said prostitution was great for women 🤷🏼‍♀️

KatesMott · 17/04/2020 15:27

I really don’t care if you believe me or not. It makes absolutely no odds to me or to my potentially fictional friend Confused

skql · 17/04/2020 15:33

i think there's more important things than money.

KatesMott · 17/04/2020 15:37

skql I couldn’t agree more but the conversation I was responding to was in part talking about the money that can be made from such sites.

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 17/04/2020 15:58

Anyone who thinks those woman who make a fortune are only selling naked pics are deluded

That's a good point, some colleagues were talking about this a while ago but I wasn't really paying much attention, but at the time it didn't seem to ring true to me. Why would you pay some rando thouands of pounds to see their tits when you can google naken women on line for free? Also posting videos of you having sex with your partner online for money is not mild, its a sign you've lost sight of your boundaries.

KatesMott · 17/04/2020 16:03

I meant mild in terms of pornography where most sex is between ‘strangers’ effectively. Many users are able to communicate with their subscribers, they can ask them to wear certain outfits, dance to a particular song etc and build up a rapport/relationship with them which offers something which they don’t get with just looking at a ‘random’ naked stranger. This clearly appeals more to some hence the growing popularity of such accounts

KaronAVyrus · 17/04/2020 16:36

It’s a bit like when people claim that men use escorts just for going out for dinner and absolutely nothing else. It’s bullshit designed to reel in the gullible.
There is no way that men are paying hefty sums of cash for a cheeky, page 3 glimpse of some tits. Honestly, you’d have to be pretty dim to fall for it.

Goosefoot · 17/04/2020 16:59

I see the money earned question as similar to people who work in MLM schemes. Yes, few people can do very well. Often they got in early, but they also inevitably work had and have good business sense, and some good luck too.

Most people don't have that outcome, a lot get taken for a ride

It's more common that some people working in sex related jobs do ok financially and don't seem to suffer terribly in the ways you might expect and see it as worth it. Lots of people might know someone who works as a stripper for a few years and avoids getting drawn in and makes some very good money without becoming rich.

Those scenarios are really both a small % of that work, and it's still usually statistically risky work because of the environments involved. But there is no point denying those examples exist.

However, even in cases where there is a good financial reward, that is not equivalent to being empowered. I don't really know many people who would say that any work which pays well is empowering, and that alone makes it suspicious when people try and say that in these instances.

Goosefoot · 17/04/2020 17:01

To clarify the above - I mean its more common for people to do ok than it is for them to get rich, which is really pretty unusual.

ElsieDear · 17/04/2020 17:10

Maybe a very small proportion of women to engage in sex work make money, aren't coerced, enjoy it, find it empowering, weren't abused as children etc but once you scratch the surface mostly they seem amazingly naive and vulnerable and are complicit in supporting the damaging idea that women are most valuable when naked, 'beautiful' and available for men.

Goosefoot · 17/04/2020 17:15

Sure, on the face of it I don't think it really tells us one way or another what we should think about the concept of sex as work, or how we should treat it in terms of social policy. Personally I think for the individuals involved it's psychologically damaging, though not necessarily more so than other sexual acts that we leave up to people to choose. That may impact what people are thinking when they talk about people being mentally healthy.

I think it's just a rabbit hole though to get too caught up in arguing about whether there are some people who do well. There have always been a few people who do, it's not really the issue.

PositiveVibez · 17/04/2020 18:26

and has a huge portfolio of very wealthy clients

She has a list of men who pay to use her body as a wank sock.

Fixed that for you.

Gwynfluff · 17/04/2020 19:46

You’ll never be safe doing sex work. Transpeople will never be safe doing sex work. Just as dangerous. Julie’s spent 30 years calling it out. It got worse over those years. So sad.

KatesMott · 17/04/2020 21:18

PositiveVibez whatever you want to call it 🤷🏼‍♀️ she’s under no illusions either, however she is very happy with the lifestyle it affords her. You don’t need to ‘fix’ anything for me or her, we’ve both worked in the sex industry and are under no illusions that it’s not primarily about fucking sex Confused

PositiveVibez · 17/04/2020 21:27

Yeah but you're making it sound like she's a stockbroker.

DidoLamenting · 17/04/2020 21:41

What is the bat squeak signal that attracts apologists for the "sex industry"

Indeed.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/04/2020 21:59

Im considering it if dp agrees

I'm so incredibly empowered that when I take what I say is a job like any other job I have to ask my partner for permission first.

KatesMott · 17/04/2020 23:06

PositiveVibez

Yeah but you're making it sound like she's a stockbroker

Stockbrokers often make money from screwing others so there are parallels...
