I suppose all we can hope for is that there will now be a court case about the AWS now that the legal papers against Labour have been filed. www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3823178-Legal-challenge-to-Labour-Party-re-AWS-one-step-closer

Accep it women lost that case then we are totally in the shit.

LangClegsInSpace · 16/02/2020 23:56

Why is the audience almost entirely men? Was it some sort of wokebro masculinities event or is that just the type of audience Nandy attracts these days?

caringcarer · 16/02/2020 23:58

If a prisoner has a penis XY they should not be in a womans XX prison regardless of how they identify. If a XY prisoner has had a sex change so no penis then they should be in female XX prison. Society has to protect the majority of XX women in femail jail from rape.

Polynerd · 16/02/2020 23:58

I did not know that some female prisoners were housed on the male estate @Absolutepowercorrupts @Fallingirl. Isn't Joanna Dennehy in Bronzefield? So who are we talking about?

wellbehavedwomen · 17/02/2020 00:00

Most women in prison are there for financial crimes.

Most men are in prison for violent crime.

95% of prisoners are male. 5% of prisoners are female.

98% of sex offending is committed by males.

There are 13,500 men in prison for sex offending from a population of 32 million. There are 126 women in prison for sex offending from a population of 32 million. There were at least 60 transwomen in prison for sex offending in 2016, which is male levels of offending.

One in fifty men in the male estate claim to identify as women. If Nandy were ever in power, and implemented this policy, that would mean almost a third of prisoners in women's prisons would be male, including any sex offender who cared to ask.

Anyone who can't see the hideous abuse of women this policy would constitute is either evil or thick.

Women are very rarely violent criminals. Men are not uncommonly violent criminals. Women are genuinely vulnerable to men.

Transwomen are not female. They are male. Lying about that causes the avoidable and serious abuse of women. We know, because there have been rapes now in several countries. People are literally saying that pretending biology is not real, to comfort a group of men, is more important than protecting women from rape.

What the fuck is this dystopia, and how has any woman signed up for it?

R0wantrees · 17/02/2020 00:00

Who is currently responsible for the prison policy?

Its unclear who the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Prisons and Probation at Westminster is.
www.gov.uk/government/ministers/parliamentary-under-secretary-of-state--47

Rt Hon Robert Buckland QC was appointed as Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice on 24 July 2019.

He was Minister of State at the Ministry of Justice from May 2019 to July 2019. He was previously Solicitor General. He was elected the Conservative MP for South Swindon in 2010.

In Scotland MSPs are calling for male prisoners to be removed from female prison estate.
Im unsure if Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf has responded.

16th January 2020
'MSP calls for transgender prisoners to be barred from all-female prisons'
(extract)
"Kenny Gibson said putting male-bodied trans prisoners into women’s jails could lead to psychological harm to vulnerable women inmates who had been abused by men.

In a sign of the tensions within the SNP over trans rights, the Cunninghame North MSP raised the issue at First Minister’s Questions.

In 2018, transgender prisoner Karen White, a “predatory and controlling” rapist born Stephen Wood, was jailed for life after attacking women in a female prison in England.

According to the chief inspector of prisons south of the border, around one in 50 male prisoners now self-identifies as transgender, four times the level of the general population.

The figures have led to fears other abusive men are abusing transgender rights in order to be housed alongside female prisoners.

Mr Gibson told Ms Sturgeon: “Last night, I attended a meeting with 12 other MSPs and around 50 people, mostly from front-line women’s organisations, to discuss women’s sex-based rights.

“We heard from one of my constituents, who is a retired prison governor, that, although the Scottish Prison Service would not contemplate placing a trans man in a male prison, it has fewer qualms about placing a trans woman who is still physically male in a female prison." (continues)

This just made it onto The Press Review on Sky News, it’s repeated at 12.30 am l think.
They discussed the Lisa Nandy hustings comments and said it’s in The Times tomorrow.

What the fuck is this dystopia, and how has any woman signed up for it?

One can only assume that the women who have believe that they can buy or socially engineer their way out of any consequences for them personally, and that they just don't care at all what happens to other women. Either that or they're so thick that their logic is, well, I know someone who described themselves as a transwomen and they're nice, so there's no possible way that others may not be (and we're going to just ignore the fact that for some women the presence of a male where there shouldn't be any males is in itself traumatic).

Careerism, selfishness, privilege - take your pick really.

Datun · 17/02/2020 00:06

I hope this gets splashed across every newspaper in the country.

Nandy confirms that convicted rapists should be given access to vulnerable, incarcerated women as part of their sentence.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/02/2020 00:07

I hope every paper covers this brings up the concept or cruel and unusual punishment. I'd say that having the potential for rape tacked on to a sentence for not paying your TV license qualifies.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/02/2020 00:08

Let's just pretend my typing isn't horrible today...

GCAcademic · 17/02/2020 00:08

Well, I think we can assume the Guardian won't be covering it.

Goosefoot · 17/02/2020 00:08

No, we do not, such women are housed in special wings in the men's prison estate where security is much higher.

I take your point here, however I think it's a bit of an aside. Women's prison populations do sometimes contain women who can pose a risk to other prisoners, violence, intimidation, etc, do occur inside some women's prisons. So it makes sense that someone would think that a person who they think of as a woman would be placed like any other woman.

littlbrowndog · 17/02/2020 00:09

I saw it on sky news.

It was ok.

But there was one woman saying that trans people have the most awful life ever and are suicidal at the most rates.

No one on these discussions ever question these statements.

Why is that ?

Goosefoot · 17/02/2020 00:12

I think the suggestion that Nandy is using personal contacts to learn about issues is too kind

IMO that is just what her thinking process seems like to me.

It absolutely shows she is unsuited to be the PM, a leader of a political party, and I would even say an MP though some might see that as harsh.

The question it raises though is how is it that the majority of leadership candidates for a major political party seem to be at that level?

R0wantrees · 17/02/2020 00:12

She is either totally out of her depth, or has been so captured by a group of woke aides who have captured her and are force feeding her nonsense.

The language of the Labour Trans Pledge is that of NUS Trans/Action For Trans Health & my understanding was they wanted to release all transwomen from prison (as well as abolishing gender identity clinics)

Rose of Dawn's youtube video is a good analysis of their positions:

'What Does Co-Opting The Trans Movement Look Like?'

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/02/2020 00:13

And how many female prisoners do we think might feel suicidal if forced to cohabit with a convicted rapist? Again, that argument only works if you believe male people matter more than female people.

OvaHere · 17/02/2020 00:14

I think a lot of people are not aware of the true stats wellbehavedwomen posted above.

Everybody has an understanding that more men commit violent and sexual crimes but I suspect if you did a poll on the street about the percentages most people would vastly overestimate the amount of women in prison for sex offences, rather than 126 they would probably guess at a couple of thousand.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/02/2020 00:15

I mean, if we're talking about people unfit to be MPs then half of them will have to go based on their failure to prevent everything that's happened so far relating to this issue, and that's a conservative estimate. Yes, Nandy is useless and spineless, but she's far from the only one.

GCAcademic · 17/02/2020 00:15

It's in the times now but the headline writer has screwed up and put RBL's name in instead of Nandy's. I don't have a share token I'm afraid:

I am now convinced the Daily Mail reads FWR as they have just published a story that covers much of what has been said here and an earlier thread about the insider comments on trans policy (somebody Lachlan) and also that the legal case against the Labour Party is going ahead. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8008729/Labours-civil-war-transgender-rights-erupts-jibe-Rebecca-Long-Bailey.html

Unfortunately if it is only ever right wing press reporting all these strands most LP members will just shrug it off as a tory ploy. (Those were the comments of the Guardian's facebook post re trans rights - just a device by the tories to try and split Labour).
