Just missed it but DH messaged me- she was asked about women's place apparently. She's still on but moved on to different topic.

He says worth listening again...

This is not the Labour Party as we know it. It’s is something else and the name needs to be reclaimed and this bunch of numpties thrown out.

They should set up their own party - the ‘Anti Semite Misogynist Boys Party’

CallofDoodee · 13/02/2020 08:41

I wonder upon what basis Nandy thinks that children are chosen to be child soldiers in the first place? I bet they don't line them up and ask them which gender they identify as?

LizziesTwin · 13/02/2020 08:42

This feels like an endless assault on science, rational thought and safety, it’s exhausting. I’m unable to escape it due to family circumstances and if I didn’t have 2 daughters & a father who’d be devastated I’d be happy to die. The harm this ideology is causing is immense.

zanahoria · 13/02/2020 08:44

I just listened to it myself, what a disgusting fraud that woman is, telling straight out lies about Woman's Place beinga hate group but all the while calling for a kinder debate.

Where is the evidence?

The hypocrisy is sickening.

OldCrone · 13/02/2020 08:45

WPUK on twitter this morning.

@WomansPlaceUK
We are aware of comments made by Lisa Nandy this morning on
@BBCr4today. We are considering our response. Thank you.

Lordfrontpaw · 13/02/2020 08:47

Can’t they sue?

ArranUpsideDown · 13/02/2020 08:49

The number of times WPUK is defamed they'd never have time or resources for anything else if they responded every time.

I would hope that some appropriate letters would results in apologies, payments to various causes etc.

Lordfrontpaw · 13/02/2020 08:50

This is a pretty high profile one though.

RoyalCorgi · 13/02/2020 08:52

keeping his head down, a bit cowardly but right now I would take the coward over the lunatics.

Imagine how I feel as a Labour Party member having that as my choice.

nauticant · 13/02/2020 08:55

Can’t they sue?

They can but as we've seen, much of the establishment has been captured by the ideology, and if they get into court having spent well over £100,000, and they get a judge wanting to show progressive credentials (anything other than TWAW is transphobia), they could lose and then end up several hundreds of thousands of pounds down.

That's the financial side of things. In addition, the women of WPUK would see their lives consumed by this for a year or maybe for several years.

SadlyMissTaken · 13/02/2020 08:56

She was not properly challenged on wpuk either. In fact Justin allowed her to accuse it of harm as well as hate without pressing her for evidence.

OldCrone · 13/02/2020 08:56

It looks as though the smears have driven some people to look at what WPUK are actually saying. It's a shame Nandy didn't bother to do this before making her defamatory comments.

WomansPlaceUK
@WomansPlaceUK
Welcome to our new followers (another 400 since last night). This is who we are; this is what we stand for; this is what we want womansplaceuk.org/about/

zanahoria · 13/02/2020 08:56

The candidates do not care as legal action will be after the election, all they give a shit about is grandstanding on the issue right now.

IfNot · 13/02/2020 08:56

Absolute madness that you can state your position with such conviction without evening defining the words you are saying. What is a Transwoman? What is transphobia? What is non binary if sex isn't binary in the first place? What are the bloody rules?

This^^!

If WPUK decide to sue I will donate. I'm skint but so angry.
I also feel REALLY let down by female politicians. Men like Keir Starmer obviously don't give a shit about women's rights and dignity but these are women and they are worse! They are positively eager to do away with the classification "woman" and make every single space unisex! Just elbowing each other out of the way to see who can chuck girls and women under the bus fastest.
If this constituent of Nandy's is a girl, she wants to look into the fact that the rate of girls wanting to "transition" has gone up, what was it? 400%?? Shouldn't she be calling for some kind of urgent enquiry into this, rather than accusing the very women who CARE about safeguarding children of being members of a hate group?!
Angry

zanahoria · 13/02/2020 08:57

" It's a shame Nandy didn't bother to do this before making her defamatory comments."

she could be fully aware of what she is doing

lanadelgrey · 13/02/2020 08:57

I have a friend who ... so I feel I know all there is to know about that issue/condition is just about acceptable in a conversation down the pub but as a way of making policy Shock

SadlyMissTaken · 13/02/2020 08:57

Today is very influential. Policymakers listen to it. I don't think it should be allowed to stand unchallenged. Wpuk should demand airtime to rebut

nauticant · 13/02/2020 09:02

It's 4000% IfNot. That's for girls and over the past decade:

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2018/09/16/minister-orders-inquiry-4000-per-cent-rise-children-wanting/

TinaBarrow · 13/02/2020 09:03

Just listened. They are playing a numbers game, that's what getting elected is all about, whether in a local, general or leadership election. What shit do I need to chat? It's all about Momentum and the youth vote, and the older voters are increasingly irrelevant. It's a shortsighted race for power, no room for thought, nuance, integrity. I despair.

Rubidium · 13/02/2020 09:03

On a side note Joanna Cherry is on Question Time tonight, might be worth a watch.

Lordfrontpaw · 13/02/2020 09:04

I do hope her ‘friend’ doesn’t detransition. Then where would she be?

2Rebecca · 13/02/2020 09:05

Miranda Yardley has just been on Talk Radio with Julia HB discussing this. About 8.55. Both unimpressed although I'd have liked to hear a bit more from Miranda but JHB was keen to make her GC views clear so didnt give Miranda much time.

IfNot · 13/02/2020 09:08

It's 4000% IfNot. That's for girls and over the past decade:

Jesus.

Thanks. x

Lordfrontpaw · 13/02/2020 09:10

And that rings no bells? None?

WhatWouldBarbaraCastleDo · 13/02/2020 09:18

I quit the party last year. I grew up with a deep sense of the Labour party, and the union movement more widely, being a big part of my working class family's life (my father, who left school at 14 to be a miner, later got an NUM scholarship to study).

Two years ago I tried to do my (little) bit at my local party level and was called bigoted and transphobic for raising questions about self-ID. I found some great women to work with, but some party members declined to say anything in public when it mattered, despite telling me in private that they agreed.

I would say that being told now by party leadership hopefuls that I am transphobic because I believe in the material reality of sex is a blow. But the truth is that I largely just feel liberated from loyalty to a party that's been taken over and destroyed by woke teenagers and lefty dude bros (and those in thrall to them).
