And has effectively also said that Women's Place and the LGB Alliance (essentially groups for women, gays and lesbians to meet and discuss women's, gay and lesbian issues) are hate groups and them meeting are hate crimes

My old mum was deeply suspicious of women who didn't seem to like/support women. She had a word for it but I can't remember what it is (I'll ask my sister).

Arseaboutdarkly · 11/02/2020 14:46

I’m going to cancel my membership after the next leader is elected

I refuse to let this issue force me out. I'm voting for Starmer and staying to fight this lunacy.

Betterversionofme · 11/02/2020 14:50

Lordfrontpaw
misogynist? Applies to anyone hating women.

frazzled1 · 11/02/2020 14:51

twitter.com/labour_trans/status/1226939313264394241?s=21

Those pledges in all their glory:

  1. Accept the material reality that trans people are oppressed and discriminated against in British society, facing a rising risk of hate crime, and difficulty accessing public services, healthcare, housing and employment.
  1. Believe that trans liberation must be an objective of the Labour Party, and that transphobia is antithetical to our collective aims.
  1. Commit to respecting trans people as their self-declared gender, and to ensure that the Labour Party is an inclusive environment for trans people.
  1. Accept that trans women are women, trans men are men, and non-binary people are non-binary.
  1. Accept that there is no material conflict between trans rights and women’s rights, and that all trans women are subject to misogyny and patriarchal oppression.
  1. Listen to trans comrades on issues of transphobia and transmisogyny, allowing trans people to lead the way on our own liberation.
  1. Support the work of trans members and organisers within the Labour movement, including supporting motions on a local, regional and national level which are presented for the furthering of trans liberation.
  1. Oppose transphobic motions which run contrary to our own party equalities policy, and support the NEC striking down such motions on this basis.
  1. Organise and fight against transphobic organisations such as Woman’s Place UK, LGB Alliance and other trans-exclusionist hate groups.
  1. Support the expulsion from the Labour Party of those who express bigoted, transphobic views.

  2. Support reform of the Gender Recognition Act to improve transgender rights, as well as supporting policies which would improve trans people’s access to necessary healthcare, housing, and employment.

  3. Organise against and oppose any further transphobic policy from our own party or any other.

To which sheroine Janice Turner asks:

To be clear, Owen, looking at points 9&10 on that pledge you’ve signed, will you be campaigning for everyone who supports @WomansPlaceUK or @AllianceLGB - eg @ruthserwotka or @luluchops1 or @Lachlan_Edi - to be expelled from the Labour Party?

It’s a yes or no question, @OwenJones84.

jadefinch · 11/02/2020 14:53

One of the most misogynistic people i've ever known of in my life is a woman. And she used to be a card-carrying Tory. She's now a Labour member and, despite not being remotely interested in trans rights, often appears on Facebook and Twitter to abuse women under its guise. She's even said she joined Labour because it's easier to troll women on social media

@Betterversionofme - no, my mum had a much more - er 'colourful' vocabulary. Not necessarily sweary but usually very descriptive!

Arseaboutdarkly · 11/02/2020 14:56

'Trans liberation' ffs

Lordfrontpaw · 11/02/2020 14:57

Liberation from what/who?

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 11/02/2020 14:59

Ugh ugh ugh.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 11/02/2020 14:59

Oh fuck me.

"all trans women are subject to misogyny and patriarchal oppression"

The cringingly awful irony of this particular low point within the document, just turned me into a pretzel.

Fuck me. I am rendered inarticulate because, really, where do you start?!

littlbrowndog · 11/02/2020 15:01

Jeez who knows what they wan5 liberated from.

I can’t even begin to guess

It’s such a pack of bollocks.

Are they toddlers ?

littlbrowndog · 11/02/2020 15:01

Maybe it’s liberation from stupidity

Lordfrontpaw · 11/02/2020 15:01

Toddlers have the beauty of calling a spade a spade, so no, not toddlers.

jadefinch · 11/02/2020 15:03

Every one of those points is absurd and fascistic.

But just number 5: Accept that there is no material conflict between trans rights and women’s rights, and that all trans women are subject to misogyny and patriarchal oppression.

  1. Why are transwomen singled out and not transmen?
  1. Their definiton of transwoman is anyone who says they are at that specific moment. So if any bearded man says 'I am a woman' then not only will Labour demand that this person is believed, which in itself is ridiculous, but everyone will be forced to accept that that person is now a victim of misogyny!
  1. 'Accept that there is no material conflict between trans rights and women’s rights'. The reason this pledge has been made is because of this conflict. So not only will everyone be forced to believe that transwomen are women, but there will be punishments simply for believing that some women might not believe this.

This takes fascism, stupidity and electoral suicide to a level I've never seen before

Arseaboutdarkly · 11/02/2020 15:03

Yes, beware all you toddlers of committing the 'hate crime' of 'misgendering'

How did this happen??

Lordfrontpaw · 11/02/2020 15:05

poo poo head (channelling my inner toddler)

Graphista · 11/02/2020 15:07

Just awful! I'm ashamed now to say I had liked Angela thought she was better than this.

Is Keir better on this crap? I notice a pp saying they're going to vote for him now. Or is he just less dreadful than the other candidates on this bollocks?

But as ever on such threads if you think the Tories are any better I've seen no evidence of that plenty of examples where they're just as bad but more quietly so but as they're the governing party they unfortunately have more power to implement changes that are detrimental to women and girls.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 11/02/2020 15:09

@Floisme
I can't wait for the web chat.

I think you’re going to be sorely disappointed...

Lordfrontpaw · 11/02/2020 15:10

I wouldn't trust the Labour party to water a plant.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 11/02/2020 15:11

It really reads like it was written by a bunch of 17 year olds in the pub, on the back of a beermat, after too many pints of cider and black

littlbrowndog · 11/02/2020 15:12

All of my toddlers at regular intervals been totally irrational

At no point did labour mps agreee with them. Though if the toddler could have got them to they would have. Often the dog was wrangled in to agree with them

Not sure where I am going with this tbh. Just this reminds me of toddlers irrational behaviour at times

Lordfrontpaw · 11/02/2020 15:13

But they have a nap and get back to normal. I'm not so sure with this lot.

Mossyrock · 11/02/2020 15:14

I'd be amazed if conservatives were to support this particular brand of authoritarian nonsense.

Lots of alternative misogyny on offer in the Tory party, of course.

BritneyPeedOnALadybug · 11/02/2020 15:17

@littlbrowndog

And yet isn’t it funny how (grown adult) politicians have suddenly become so stupid when it comes to biology and yet toddlers would have no issue in asking questions that the same in society already knows the answers to?

Floisme · 11/02/2020 15:17

I think you’re going to be sorely disappointed
You're probably right and it's probably for the best Britney - I can only see more suspensions coming out of it.
