I am a long time lurker but infrequent poster here but I needed to bring this to everyone's attention.
I have found out that Mumsnet HQ have banned the fabulous LangCleg simply for repeatedly pointing out the repeated times coercive control has been used by the moderators to stop women talking.
I understand it started with a conversation when a post was deleted because she allegedly used a sweeping generalisation but they couldn't or wouldn't confirm the generalisation and when she challenged them they decided to ban her on the basis of previous comments.

So it now seems pointing out coercive control is now grounds for being banned, thus proving that coercive control is being used.

I for one would like @MumsnetHQ to provide an explanation here as this is really not on

(also taking bets on how long before the thread is deleted)

On the other thread they were disappearing questions about safeguarding children, now they get rid of someone who passionately and intelligently argues for the safeguarding of children - this is a PARENTING website ffs!

I am really cross about this. Picking off the articulate amazing women, one by one Angry

Guess this decision proves Lang’s point.

JellySlice · 21/01/2020 18:06

Shame on you MNHQ

GrinitchSpinach · 21/01/2020 18:07

Hey FWR, I’ve been in touch with Lang through her Spinster account just now. She said it’s fine to let you know that she is over there under the same name. She is thinking about putting up a statement later.

Findumdum1 · 21/01/2020 18:08

Oh ffs, how pathetic. Picking off intelligent women one by one.

iguanadonna · 21/01/2020 18:08

But Lang is brilliant

Murraygoldberg · 21/01/2020 18:09

Bloody frightening, we are being silenced on a mum's forum, headed by women, outrageous

HavelockVetinari · 21/01/2020 18:09

Thanks @GrinitchSpinach - give her our best, she's done excellent work in raising safeguarding issues to the common consciousness and should be praised for it, not fecking banned!

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 21/01/2020 18:09

Oh I'm appalled. LangCleg is an expert on safeguarding (and other topics) and I found her posts so informative and well explained. All those insights and that knowledge so generously shared. I'm too upset to say all the things I'd like to, but @MNHQ this was a poor decision.

Sexnotgender · 21/01/2020 18:09

Terrible decision, she’s one of the brightest most concise posters on FWR.

Oh wait, that’s probably why she was banned. Speaking the truth is forbidden, I forgot.

Michelleoftheresistance · 21/01/2020 18:10

We're going to need to organise off MN.

Lang, other banned people, are too valuable voices to lose in this, and I really don't want to lose touch with them.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/01/2020 18:11

oh no. Sad her posts were clear and helpful.

ZIGGY7 · 21/01/2020 18:12

As others have said, Lang Cleg is a stalwart defender of safeguarding for women and children. How ironic that the site has buckled to coercive control in banning her. You have angered your core users. Karma came to Jess Phillips. I would hate to see MN lose women because of this regrettable decision. We are the main drivers of traffic to this site.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 21/01/2020 18:13

mmm, someone who posts knowledgeably about safeguarding on a parenting website? better rescind their membership eh MNHQ?

they have been played. the optics are very, very bad.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 21/01/2020 18:13

I have been so grateful to MNHQ for letting us have the space to discuss this and I know they have been brave to do so. They take much credit for the traction we are gaining.

It doesn’t make sense that they are suddenly going backwards.

thelongdarkteatimeofthesoul · 21/01/2020 18:14

@MNHQ could you please come into the thread and explain why you've banned a poster known for being a font of child and vulnerable women's safeguarding knowledge and thoughtful and controlled in her posting style?

MrsSnippyPants · 21/01/2020 18:15

Thanks dragongirlx, no pressure obviously Smile

CherieBabySpliffUp · 21/01/2020 18:15

Posting in the hope @MNHQ reply with their reasoning soon.

Clymene · 21/01/2020 18:16

The system of reports = deletions = strikes = bans is very vulnerable to gaming.

LangCleg is a huge loss to this forum and to MN as a whole. What a disappointing decision

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 21/01/2020 18:17

No way! Shame on you @MNHQ for silencing one of the most knowledgable and valuable posters on FWR. Her posts always added to threads and she was respected by many as a regular with women's rights at heart.

I've not seen Datun around-has she been banned too for talking sense and reality?

tooyoungat40 · 21/01/2020 18:19

How disappointing @MNHQ

Doyoumind · 21/01/2020 18:19

The system is far too easy to game. There should be much more rigour in looking into who is doing the reporting and their history on MN before deletions are made.

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 21/01/2020 18:21

Datun sorry, I see you've posted on here so evidently not banned Blush I've not been on the board much lately but when I have I've missed your name as love yourself posting style. So calm and no nonsense.

DiscontentedWoman · 21/01/2020 18:22

@mnhq Seriously??
Off to sign up to Spinster

CallofDoodee · 21/01/2020 18:22

So this is what Mumsnet are capitulating to... Wow.

LangCleg
BadgertheBodger · 21/01/2020 18:23

Outrageous decision. She is consistently brilliant about all sorts of things but the safeguarding knowledge is a real loss to the board. Just can’t understand how this decision came to be? Surely to god when you look through her long posting history and see nothing but patience and a generous sharing of knowledge you don’t listen to the bloody Monitors
