I am a long time lurker but infrequent poster here but I needed to bring this to everyone's attention.
I have found out that Mumsnet HQ have banned the fabulous LangCleg simply for repeatedly pointing out the repeated times coercive control has been used by the moderators to stop women talking.
I understand it started with a conversation when a post was deleted because she allegedly used a sweeping generalisation but they couldn't or wouldn't confirm the generalisation and when she challenged them they decided to ban her on the basis of previous comments.

So it now seems pointing out coercive control is now grounds for being banned, thus proving that coercive control is being used.

I for one would like @MumsnetHQ to provide an explanation here as this is really not on

(also taking bets on how long before the thread is deleted)

advertisers, like the rest of the world, don't give a shit if boring old women get shut up, 'cos we not special like the abusive men,

I'd hazard a guess that advertisers, like politicians, know that boring old women are often a core part of their target audience.

We may not be fashionable, or especially visible, but anyone with any sense knows the importance of boring old women.

AnotherNightWatering · 21/01/2020 22:17

How about boycotting the website, deleting accounts and moving to another platform?
The problem is, we don’t know what the reason for deleting LangCleg’s account was? I’m sure the Admin’s know more than us and are acutely aware of the MNHQ terms of service.

Do you have a vested interest in getting troublesome inconvenient women to move sites? That is your second post suggesting this.

I say how about staying and posting more and more, so that more Mumsnet users become aware of the issues!

Thelnebriati · 21/01/2020 22:17

Not a chance. If you joined feminism to be popular you joined the wrong movement.

Redshoeblueshoe · 21/01/2020 22:17

The Labour party ignored women before the election
That worked out well for them

houseofstark · 21/01/2020 22:17

Another (mostly) lurker here to say how disappointing this is.

Everyone else has said it already and probably more eloquently but @MNHQ you are really being played here by non-site users.

OccasionalKite · 21/01/2020 22:17

Another one just logging in to register utter incredulity at this.

Banning LangCleg, of all women.

MNHQ - what the hell is going on?

MrsFogi · 21/01/2020 22:18

Hear hear. I come on MN for the feminist board (I have a wonder arounds a few other topics whilst here) now that my children are older if the interesting and knowledgable posters are all banned then there is no reason for me to visit any more. As someone up thread has said - you need to keep your eye on your core customers (not nethuns that pop along for a few weeks and then move on to somewhere else but those of us who have been around since the dawn of MN and come here every day).

BlouseAndSkirt · 21/01/2020 22:19

Oh FFS.

I didn’t always think Lang Cleg went about addressing those new to FWR in the most conducive way, I haven’t always agreed with her. But FFS @MNHQ that’s the whole point. We aren’t looking for Gurus and Goddesses , we are looking for debate, proper detail , challenge, clear articulation of what we grasp for... come on, she is GREAT at all that.

Surely people should only be banned for genuine hate speak and non-witty trolling?

sanluca · 21/01/2020 22:20

*@JustineMumsnet

Please think about this.
You're being controlled by anonymous monitors who contribute nothing to the site, who seem to exist only to mass report, targeting certain users and certain types of posts, and you have caved in, much to the detriment of the FWR community.*

So true, so true. More afraid of shouting bullies and easier to silence the peaceful debaters. But we know we are right, we are many, we will continue and it is our children that are being endangered.

Datun · 21/01/2020 22:20

RedHoodGirl

How about boycotting the website, deleting accounts and moving to another platform?

What, you mean exactly same as getting banned?

Nice try.

BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs · 21/01/2020 22:20

You've just thrown away one of your greatest assets MNHQ. Well done.

BlouseAndSkirt · 21/01/2020 22:21

Uh oh.

You haven’t had some intern that had done this, have you?

HAVE YOU?

Rabidgingercat · 21/01/2020 22:21

Also de-lurking to add my dismay at LangCleg’s apparent ban.

All the posts I saw from LC were measured, and demonstrated considerable knowledge and expertise with regards safeguarding.

MNHQ, please do reconsider. . .

GenderfreeJoe · 21/01/2020 22:22

You haven’t had some intern that had done this, have you?

I was just thinking the same 🤔

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 21/01/2020 22:22

@MNHQ
Adding my voice to the hundreds of others, this is disgraceful that Lang has been banned.
I've looked over her posts from the last couple of days and can't see anything she said that could be ban worthy.
This is a targarted campaign against posters in fwr.

ButterisbestLangClegisbetter · 21/01/2020 22:23

How about boycotting the website, deleting accounts and moving to another platform
Nice try, but I think I'll stay put for a while. I'll look at Spinster again, there's quite a few of AHF ex mumsnet posters on there. I had weetabix for breakfast, not with hot milk and there wasn't a banana in sight. Weetabix is ok but not the other two.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 21/01/2020 22:23

Ereshkigal · 21/01/2020 22:25

I would do anything for Lang, but I won't do that. No I won't do that.

Quite Wine

birdsdestiny · 21/01/2020 22:26

Courage calls to courage.
Its time to be even braver. Otherwise MNHQ will end up like Victoria Derbyshire for example.
Interviewing a detransitioner today, practically squirming in her seat, still trying to prop up the narrative whilst obviously thinking oh shit, oh shit I might have been wrong about this. It's quite something to watch the wrong side of history playing out on the TV.
The problem with the modern age is there is not really going to be much scope for denial, or 'I didnt know', because it's all there, on the tv screen, on twitter, or even on a parenting website, where over 500 women patiently explained it over and over again.

Lifeinthelastlane · 21/01/2020 22:27

That twitter poster does realise Lang has just been banned from mumsnet? She's not actually been locked up or executed, so is free to display and develop her (hopefully contagious) gender critical views all over town. She can even vote

Doyoumind · 21/01/2020 22:27

RedHoodGirl haha. Nice try Hmm

Awks · 21/01/2020 22:28

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/01/2020 22:29

When I first started reading here, hoping to find a space where important issues could be talked out among intelligent women who care about the wellbeing of other women and of children, Lang was the first person I really connected with and one of the main reasons I stayed (and came back, after a break). She's the single best resource Mumsnet has in terms of safeguarding and tireless in her dedication to protecting children from harm. And now she's been banned. For talking back to teacher, because let's be honest, that's what this was really about. She told the mod team things they didn't want to hear about the way they treat users, and it stung, so they got rid of her. And the whole site is poorer for it.

Barracker · 21/01/2020 22:29

LangCleg's every contribution to every thread enriched this forum. I always wanted to see her username and when I did I knew her posts would be worth lingering over.

Mumsnet is so much the poorer for this bad decision.

@MNHQ, I'll keep saying this as long as I can: there is NO MIDDLE GROUND to be found.

There are only two possible camps:
We support the rights of the female sex to distinguish themselves, without exception, from any and all men
vs
we will punish and censor women for distinguishing themselves from the special men who won't allow it.

There's never really been much more to it than that.

Your middle ground turns out to be all the way over in the "we reserve the right to punish women for uncompromisingly distinguishing themselves from all men, all the time."
Telling yourselves you only punish some women sometimes for referencing some men, makes not one jot of difference to the camp you find yourselves in. You're in it nevertheless.

Silencing women to make men feel more welcome is probably not where you imagined you'd be a decade ago, but it's where you've ended up, whether you realise or admit it.

I keep hoping you'll find your way back to firmer ground.

Really, what is so scary about deciding
"We're never going to punish any woman for telling the truth about being a woman, to a man"?

Your role was never supposed to be to make men feel welcome by making women swallow the truth and regurgitate a lie.

There's only one truth.
