LangCleg

I am a long time lurker but infrequent poster here but I needed to bring this to everyone's attention.
I have found out that Mumsnet HQ have banned the fabulous LangCleg simply for repeatedly pointing out the repeated times coercive control has been used by the moderators to stop women talking.
I understand it started with a conversation when a post was deleted because she allegedly used a sweeping generalisation but they couldn't or wouldn't confirm the generalisation and when she challenged them they decided to ban her on the basis of previous comments.

So it now seems pointing out coercive control is now grounds for being banned, thus proving that coercive control is being used.

I for one would like @MumsnetHQ to provide an explanation here as this is really not on

(also taking bets on how long before the thread is deleted)

Parenting website bans child safeguarding expert to appease men who want safeguarding measures relaxed for their own ends

THIS.

For shame mumsnet.

BernardBlackMissesLang · 21/01/2020 19:32

nah, I'll be staying here thanks, for as long as it winds the monitors up, and longer

NotTheLangCleg · 21/01/2020 19:33

Former lurking sisters, welcome. Kick off your shoes, get comfy and stick around in this topic for a while. Can I get ye a drink?
New voices springing up every time we lose one is exactly what we need.

And everyone, we can do Spinster and MN Smile
Spinster to share and organise, MN to (choosing our words very carefully Hmm) reach out to, and get to know, women coming newer to this issue.

Floisme · 21/01/2020 19:33

I'll be on both from now on.

RedToothBrush · 21/01/2020 19:34

Lang's biggest sins of late was to point out the trans issue isn't a single issue, issue to mnhq and talk of safeguarding and how if we can't talk about certain things we can't safeguard.

NoSquirrels · 21/01/2020 19:35

Perhaps there is a news story here to follow on from the Jess Phillips webchat one yesterday - was Lang's ban anything to do with that?

I assume it absolutely was.

AnotherNightWatering · 21/01/2020 19:35

Boycott Mumsnet and move to Spinster - it’s the only answer!

No, post more and more on Mumsnet. Like many mums, I only discovered about all the trans issues through happening upon a thread here. I would never have chanced on Spinster. If threads on here weren't "radicalising" people, posters like LangCleg wouldn't be targeted. Stay, and spread the word.

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted · 21/01/2020 19:36

How does Spinster work? Will have a go later.

Datun · 21/01/2020 19:37

Today 19:27 RedHoodGirl

Boycott Mumsnet and move to Spinster - it’s the only answer!

The problem with that, Red, is there are 12 to 14 million unique users of mumsnet, but not spinster.

So that's really not a very good idea.

By all means go to spinster and and add your support but do not boycott here. Yet.

Posts written here are accessed by the media, MPs, decision-makers and policy influencers.

It's really important for them to see what is written, what people are saying, and who is agreeing.

I'm sure you agree.

FourTeaFallOut · 21/01/2020 19:38

It's inevitable, when the truth is so closely guarded by a myriad of tripwires that deletion waits for anyone hoping to speak plainly on the matter of biology on Mumsnet.

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted · 21/01/2020 19:39

I agree, datun. I plan on doing both.

BlackForestCake · 21/01/2020 19:39

This is disgraceful.

ScapaFlo · 21/01/2020 19:39

Oh hell

I've learnt so much from Lang.

Off to join Spinster

RedToothBrush · 21/01/2020 19:40

Posts written here are accessed by the media, MPs, decision-makers and policy influencers.

And that's why certain people don't want them to see what Lang said...

Think about it before you disappear to the arse end of influencing nothing.

winterinmadeira · 21/01/2020 19:41

That is disgraceful. We will not be silenced.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 21/01/2020 19:41

Another lurker posting to thank Langcleg for her thoughtful and insightful input, and express sadness about this banning.

I only really come on MN for the feminism now ... but always end up getting sidetracked into other sections. If MN are going to silence voices we value, I'm off to check out spinster....

Datun · 21/01/2020 19:41

LangClegsOpinionIsNoted

I agree, datun. I plan on doing both.

Good. It's not a good idea to encourage articulate, passionate, knowledgeable women to leave this site.

MrsSnippyPants · 21/01/2020 19:41

Like many of you, I’m staying, I’ll keep posting, I won’t be threatened by men (been there, got the T-shirt)
BUT that is my adblocker getting switched back on. Not another click from me MNHQ until Lang is reinstated, at the very least.

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 21/01/2020 19:42

Good to see Lang on Spinster this evening. You can't keep a good woman down.

BovaryX · 21/01/2020 19:42

As well as the expertise mentioned by others, Lang is unfailingly kind. Not everybody sees the support she gives to other women behind the scenes

Absolutely 100 percent agree, she is a great asset to this forum and she is supportive and kind to women as TinselAngel eloquently says. Very saddened by this, please reconsider mumsnet.

AndwhenyougetthereFoffsomemore · 21/01/2020 19:42

Just read Datum's post and that's a really good point - but honestly, I'm struggling to want to add to MN coffers by adding my views/data today. I'm going to take a bit of a break.

Butterisbest · 21/01/2020 19:43

That gloating tweet is utterly despicable. @MNHQ.
Don't your moderators realise that they've been played, played like fish on the end of a rod. Then they've been reeled in by an expert gamer.
Why would any man want a child safeguarding expert like Land Cleg banned? From a PARENTING website. Just think about who will benefit from the wholescale dismantling of safeguarding for children.
Go on, think, it's not rocket science.
Can't your moderators join the dots?
Can't you see what the end game is?
I've only been on Mumsnet for a couple of years and several name changes. I can see the end game.
Lang was a shining beacon of truth and humour in a distinctly murky online world.
By banning her you've fucked up big time.

HirooOnoda · 21/01/2020 19:45

As sad as it is when an articulate and thoughtful poster is banned, it is important that this forum has rules and that these rules are adhered to by all. Any thoughts of allowing certain posters to have a free ride simply because we agree with them, or not, would go against everything that MN should stand for.

I suspect there were numerous warnings and dialogue exchanged between Lang and MNHQ to hopefully remedy this situation before it got to this point but sadly this wasn’t achieved.

Hopefully LangCleg will use this time to reflect on where the line was crossed and perhaps one day will return, reformed, to continue the passionate debate but within the terms of service that we all need to obide by.

This is a valuable lesson to us all but one I hope we all consider when debating such thought provoking subject matter

Apollo440 · 21/01/2020 19:45

We are not going anywhere. Vexatious complaints be damned. Our numbers are growing and we will be heard.
