LangCleg

I am a long time lurker but infrequent poster here but I needed to bring this to everyone's attention.
I have found out that Mumsnet HQ have banned the fabulous LangCleg simply for repeatedly pointing out the repeated times coercive control has been used by the moderators to stop women talking.
I understand it started with a conversation when a post was deleted because she allegedly used a sweeping generalisation but they couldn't or wouldn't confirm the generalisation and when she challenged them they decided to ban her on the basis of previous comments.

So it now seems pointing out coercive control is now grounds for being banned, thus proving that coercive control is being used.

I for one would like @MumsnetHQ to provide an explanation here as this is really not on

(also taking bets on how long before the thread is deleted)

Lang gone ? Why ? What is the reasoning given for this ?

NoSquirrels · 21/01/2020 19:18

She could keep inside the guidelines and present flawless answers to ridiculous threads, remaining cool, calm and funny. So the only way was to gag her.

Well, apparently (according to MNHQ on the Site Stuff thread), she was "repeatedly warned" and their warnings were not heeded, hence the ban.

But nothing further in terms of detail as they can't discuss individual posters.

Frustrating. As I have never ever seen LangCleg lose her cool, but a permanent ban suggests otherwise. But without knowing the posts they refer to, how can anyone judge? We are expected to take it on trust that the moderation was correct. I am not feeling trusting.

Another lurker here who came for the breast-feeding/sleep topics when my son was born nearly 13 years ago and stayed for the FWR board. I've had months/years off, but recently I've been reading, learning and nodding in agreement daily. De-lurking to agree with you all about the quality of Lang's posts. Really shocked at MNHQ's decision.

MindTheMinotaur · 21/01/2020 19:18

Ah, c'mon Mumsnet Towers, get a grip...

NotTheLangCleg · 21/01/2020 19:18

@SpartacusLangClegicus

Love it!

HorseWithNoLangCleg · 21/01/2020 19:18

if you change your policy and allow free speech within the law of the land.

Good point.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 21/01/2020 19:18

There is definitely a list somewhere - regular, articulate and knowledgeable posters are getting picked off by malicious reporting. That much is evident from the gloating screenshots from Twitter. What can be done about it? Probably not much - do MNHQ ever reconsider their bans? Perhaps there is a news story here to follow on from the Jess Phillips webchat one yesterday - was Lang's ban anything to do with that?

Rumplestaleskin · 21/01/2020 19:19

Another gutted lurker here!

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 21/01/2020 19:21

Yep, they are picking us off because posters like Lang are so articulate.

And right.

picklemepopcorn · 21/01/2020 19:21

Spinster for me, too.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 21/01/2020 19:21

MNHQ you're being played like fiddles here.
Look at the people you're pandering to, for heaven's sake.

The gloating does my head in the most, I think...😡

traceyracer · 21/01/2020 19:21

Perhaps we need to find another site to post on if mumsnet no longer allow discussion of trans issues?

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 21/01/2020 19:23

Lang introduced me to Spinster. I don't go on much, but at least we can discuss women, you know, ADULT HUMAN FEMALES

PronounssheRa · 21/01/2020 19:24

Lots of sad, angry little men on twitter

Yep. This is how they get their kicks, controlling what women can say, by reporting MN posters who are articulate and well informed (threatens their sad little egos).

Tragic thing is MN let's them.

BickerinBrattle · 21/01/2020 19:24

And so MNHQ proves LangCleg 100% correct in her understanding of how coercive control operates.

Feminazgul · 21/01/2020 19:25

What the fuck?

What.

The.

Fuck.

mumsnet capitulating to men

men who are intent of pushing women out of their sex segregated spaces.

men who seek to remove any kind of safeguarding for women and children.

These are the people you want to be BFFs with?

Fucksake....

AGnu · 21/01/2020 19:25

Oh, MNHQ, really?! Am so disappointed. I tried Spinster previously but couldn't get on with it. I like conversations to be a bit more categorised than that format allows but I guess I'm going to have to get used to it if that's where all the sane, inciteful people are.

PracticallyFamous · 21/01/2020 19:26

Parenting website bans child safeguarding expert to appease men who want safeguarding measures relaxed for their own ends.

Say what you see.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/01/2020 19:27

Oh ffs.

TinselLANGel · 21/01/2020 19:27

This is a very poor show.

As well as the expertise mentioned by others, Lang is unfailingly kind. Not everybody sees the support she gives to other women behind the scenes.

If this is not reconsidered, it will be a massive loss not only to Mumsnet but to Women's Liberation.

It's counterproductive for the monitors to target her- it just means we'll all have to educate ourselves in safeguarding because we can't rely on Lang being here to ask.

RedHoodGirl · 21/01/2020 19:27

Boycott Mumsnet and move to Spinster - it’s the only answer!

Redshoeblueshoe · 21/01/2020 19:29

I'll see you over on Spinster

FFSFFSFFS · 21/01/2020 19:29

We're not able to discuss individual bans but please be assured we don't make these decisions lightly, and we discuss them at length before taking any action.

What was the discussion?

"Do we all agree we should throw this woman under the bus? Everyone agree that it will never happen to us so long as we just keep appeasing them? Who really needs to be able to define women to protect women's rights anyway. The most important thing is to make sure that the people with the penises are happy."

FFS

hazeyjane · 21/01/2020 19:30

Oh come on MNHQ.
I posted a completely unrelated question to Jess Phillips...my voice was heard.
It's important that intelligent knowledgeable people are heard on this issue and LangCleg is one of those people, don't do this.

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2020 19:30

Yep I'm back on spinster hope to see you all there
