I am a long time lurker but infrequent poster here but I needed to bring this to everyone's attention.
I have found out that Mumsnet HQ have banned the fabulous LangCleg simply for repeatedly pointing out the repeated times coercive control has been used by the moderators to stop women talking.
I understand it started with a conversation when a post was deleted because she allegedly used a sweeping generalisation but they couldn't or wouldn't confirm the generalisation and when she challenged them they decided to ban her on the basis of previous comments.

So it now seems pointing out coercive control is now grounds for being banned, thus proving that coercive control is being used.

I for one would like @MumsnetHQ to provide an explanation here as this is really not on

(also taking bets on how long before the thread is deleted)

Lurkers coming out in support of LangCleg is amazing - and illustrates why FWR stalwarts posting under reconisable usernames is so important.

VoleClock · 21/01/2020 19:04

And another long time mostly lurker here who wants to add her voice to the number in support of LangCleg. She is/was one of the posters whose comments I would always read for their wisdom and good sense.

HorseWithNoLangCleg · 21/01/2020 19:04

Unbelievable. Except that these days this sort of thing is becoming more and more believable.

I love Lang.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 21/01/2020 19:05

It is all part of the same thing isn't it?

Jess Phillips thinking it's OK to come here and tell us she believes something that is patent nonsense (TWAW)

MNHQ thinking that when a long standing poster chafes under the coercive control they are applying on behalf of some pretty unsavoury characters, the appropriate response is to punish the person they're victimising

it seems to be wholesale rejection of reality by the elite.

OwlsFlyByNight · 21/01/2020 19:05

That’s it, I’ve just read page 1 of this and I quit.

@mnhq I’ve been dedicated to mumsnet since I was pregnant 8 years ago, and this is the last straw. I’m on here every day without fail, but I’m done.

I get that you feel you have to moderate in such a way as to appease certain groups, but I think you have forgotten who you are supported by. If we are not allowed to discuss these issues freely on here, then I give up. I’ll come back if you change your policy and allow free speech within the law of the land.

OwlsFlyByNight · 21/01/2020 19:05

I’m so angry honestly.

palomapear · 21/01/2020 19:06

I wish I had half of Lang's insight.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 21/01/2020 19:06

don't quit

really. that's what the monitors and their ilk are trying to achieve

tobee · 21/01/2020 19:06

Poor show @MNHQ

ofwarren · 21/01/2020 19:07

I hardly ever post but this has shocked me! Lang is a brilliant poster and I really respect what she has to say. A dreadful decision HQ

exLtEveDallas · 21/01/2020 19:07

Well that’s a fucking travesty.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 21/01/2020 19:08

I LONG FOR LANG.

FWR is one of the busier boards, isn't it? There's a reason for that.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 21/01/2020 19:09

Dreadful decision

Coyoacan · 21/01/2020 19:10

This is unbelievable. The website that prided itself in allowing people to swear and call a spade a spade has banned a thoroughly intelligent and respectful poster for what?

Really mumsnet, do you think this is how to build up your business, but shutting down child safeguarding experts on a parenting site? Do you think pandering to the likes of Joss Prior et al. will up your image?

MangoFeverDream · 21/01/2020 19:12

This is terrible news :(

JiggeryWokery · 21/01/2020 19:12

De-lurking to say I'm gutted by this news.

PronounssheRa · 21/01/2020 19:12

Mainly lurk, posting today.

Christ @MNHQ this is piss poor, but demonstrates Langs point about coercive control beautifully.

Cascade220 · 21/01/2020 19:13

This reply has been deleted

Message withdrawn at poster's request.

EsmeShelby · 21/01/2020 19:13

That is very disappointing. What do you think you are playing at MNHQ? Don't pander. It will never be enough.

Kit19 · 21/01/2020 19:13

Noooooooo this is terrible news!!!

HandsOffMyRights · 21/01/2020 19:13

NRTFT yet but I will.
@MNHQ as a MN member of 15 years, this is a disgraceful way to behave.

Lang has been supportive of me and so many other posters.

She's a font of knowledge, sharp, witty and able to hold her own in any debate. She cares about women, decency, truth and equality and that's the problem isn't it.

She could keep inside the guidelines and present flawless answers to ridiculous threads, remaining cool, calm and funny. So the only way was to gag her.

You're a disgrace Mumsnet. This is such a bad look.

Melroses · 21/01/2020 19:15

This reminds me a bit of that Aesops fable where the trees say they will sacrifice one tree for the man to make an axe out of, as long as he leaves the rest of the trees alone. So he makes his axe then comes and chops them all down.

Yes this. Constant appeasement of outside monitors will get you nowhere. They will always want more. And more.

Time after time, scandals of abuse come into the news and everyone is shocked. Then nothing happens. Because safeguarding is inconvenient and it cuts through everything. It has to be a way of life. The internet provides fast and efficient connections that have changed things for everybody and we need to be able to discuss and understand what is being decided around us.

Abuse is not confined to Jimmy Saville and unfashionable religious organisations. It will be happening where the opportunities are, and where it can't be talked about.

It has been wonderful having Lang on here talking about safeguarding. I think MNHQ have cocked up in a big way here. Where does it stop? If coercive control and safeguarding on MN are bad things to talk about what will be the next forbidden topic?

BovaryX · 21/01/2020 19:15

I have just seen the screen shot. It's sickening. I can't believe it. Mumsnet, please reconsider, Lang is a passionate advocate for women and children, she is an asset to any debate.

Noflora · 21/01/2020 19:16

I'll check her out on Spinster.

MN Lang really is a tremendous draw to this site. She is so sensible and measured and so so knowledgable.

Floisme · 21/01/2020 19:16

A good night for Spinster - I've just registered and instantly got 2 followers!

Although I'll still be hanging out on here for as long as it annoys the monitors.
