I am a long time lurker but infrequent poster here but I needed to bring this to everyone's attention.
I have found out that Mumsnet HQ have banned the fabulous LangCleg simply for repeatedly pointing out the repeated times coercive control has been used by the moderators to stop women talking.
I understand it started with a conversation when a post was deleted because she allegedly used a sweeping generalisation but they couldn't or wouldn't confirm the generalisation and when she challenged them they decided to ban her on the basis of previous comments.

So it now seems pointing out coercive control is now grounds for being banned, thus proving that coercive control is being used.

I for one would like @MumsnetHQ to provide an explanation here as this is really not on

(also taking bets on how long before the thread is deleted)

Hope the press picks up on this. ‘Mumsnet bans child safeguarding expert’. Go Times. Go Daily Mail.

Yes, yes to this. Come on journalists.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 21/01/2020 18:47

and yes, those tweets linked above are males celebrating silencing a woman who expresses opinions they disagree with. how times have changed eh?

let's be honest, today of all days

That is who MNHQ is working to please when they ban long standing posters in this manner

WrathoFaeKIop · 21/01/2020 18:49

And you can tell exactly who disagrees with child safeguarding, because they’ll be celebrating Lang’s ban on Twitter

THIS

isabellerossignol · 21/01/2020 18:51

This reminds me a bit of that Aesops fable where the trees say they will sacrifice one tree for the man to make an axe out of, as long as he leaves the rest of the trees alone. So he makes his axe then comes and chops them all down. Or something like that.

Anyway, I see MNHQ being played through and through. They ban a few posters for an easy life and to stop the TRAs bothering them. Except, that doesn't happen, because when they get one person banned, they just go after another. And presumably in time, their intent would be to have the entirety of mumsnet shut down on the grounds of being a hub of hate speech.

WrathoFaeKIop · 21/01/2020 18:51

Now what sort of person disregards child safeguarding?

Say what you see.

ValancyRedfern · 21/01/2020 18:52

I know very few poster's names but Langcleg is one I always remember because she's magnificent. This is outrageous

PsuedoSatisfactionBaby · 21/01/2020 18:52

Just adding the voices of disappointment here. Terrible decision MNHQ.

isabellerossignol · 21/01/2020 18:53

Also note how the crowing misogynist on the screenshot from Twitter can't even bear the idea that a woman might have thoughts of her own. No, she's just 'regurgitating other people's thoughts'.

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2020 18:53

Does Mnhq ever wonder why we are repetitive, why we are angry?
It's because we're NOT BLOODY LISTENED TO

NotTheLangCleg · 21/01/2020 18:54

Now what sort of person disregards child safeguarding? Say what you see.

I don't think anyone can... or they'll be banned. Hmm

From a website that markets itself as by parents, for parents. Confused

NotTerfNorCis · 21/01/2020 18:55

Sorry to hear about this. Hopefully she can find a way to come back.

GenderfreeJoe · 21/01/2020 18:56

There's always spinster.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 21/01/2020 18:57

I've just joined Spinster. Haven't got a clue how it works, yet. See some of you there.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 21/01/2020 18:57

What hasn’t apparently occurred to all these lovely misogynists running round trying to sabotage child safeguarding is that if we all head off elsewhere, they’re not going to be able to hear what we’re talking about...

But maybe they’re not worried. After all they think there are six of us & a load of socks.

WireBrushAndDettolMaam · 21/01/2020 18:57

because when they get one person banned, they just go after another. And presumably in time, their intent would be to have the entirety of mumsnet shut down on the grounds of being a hub of hate speech.

Yep. They’re just working through a list. And MNHQ doing the dirty work for them. MNHQ fell to the TRAs a good few years ago. There was a very distinctive change in moderation.

thelongdarkteatimeofthesoul · 21/01/2020 18:58

My attempt to find spinster took me to snowboards... I'll try again later!

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 21/01/2020 18:58

yes, I would suggest that if MNHQ gets upset about criticism, they may benefit from considering why women who have posted here for years, who love this place, are so critical of their behaviour

Mum4MrA · 21/01/2020 19:00

Another Feminism boards’ lurker here who is disappointed with @MNHQ decision to ban LangCleg, whose erudite posts I have valued. Guess I’ll be off to Spinster too.

Datun · 21/01/2020 19:00

Today 18:44 Binterested

Hope the press picks up on this. ‘Mumsnet bans child safeguarding expert’. Go Times. Go Daily Mail.

This is already starting, with that Daily Mail article today about Jess Phillips.

And I'm honestly not being disingenuous when I say that.

The issues here are self evident. No one wants to have to point stuff out. We honestly should not have to. It's so frustrating.

And I absolutely understand commercialism. I totally get it.

Which is why I think this decision is wrong. You can set aside the ethics, HQ, in favour of the money, and many people would agree, but this time, I think you're shooting yourself in the foot commercially.

I don't think you're seeing the writing on the wall.

Or what the kids today are calling the optics.

CriticalCondition · 21/01/2020 19:00

Mostly a lurker adding my voice to the many appalled by this decision.

Lang contributed so, so much to this board. What have those who got her banned contributed @MNHQ?

PurpleCrowbar · 21/01/2020 19:01

This is bloody horrible.

LangCleg has always been one of the most intelligent voices on here, & as a teacher, I've found her thoughts on safeguarding to be enormously helpful.

This needs press. We know the tide is turning. PUUULLLL.

Hugely disappointing, MNHQ. I've been here 16 years, & you are getting this so wrong.

theunknownknown · 21/01/2020 19:01

I am truly shocked by this.
Totally owned by the menz mnhq
Shameful

StealthPolarBear · 21/01/2020 19:02

Oh I'm on spinster but abandoned it as it was so slow! I'll drop back in

Datun · 21/01/2020 19:02

You can't have Justine going public saying transactivists curb free speech, and then ban a safeguarding expert, on a parenting website, for pointing out censorship. Even if it is commercially driven.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/01/2020 19:03

It seems as if Mumsnet has been captured. The "moderation" on that we chat was ridiculous simply disappearing messages, and prominent posters on FWR are being picked off one by one.

It is indeed interesting that one of the most prominent posters on safeguarding was deemed to be a threat worth removing.
