I don't know how this passed me by, but transgender cricketer Maxine Blythin was awarded 2019 Kent Woman Player of the Year.
I have no words left to describe this situation, none at all.

What the fuck?

How did Blyth do in the men's awards (given that Blyth continued to play for both teams, albeit with dramatically different batting averages, which I think shows something about something or other, which I'm not sure I'm allowed to say clearly without being deleted).

Fucking hell, we get, what three or four years of women's sport being taken seriously and televised and actually attracting decent crowds and now all of that is going to be destroyed utterly.

If a person went through male puberty and insists on playing women's sport, then that person is a cheat.

HandsOffMyRights · 04/11/2019 15:08

And yet it remained quiet. Why didn't any famous cricket players call this out?

Fandoozle1 · 04/11/2019 15:20

I don’t have the words right now to express how I feel about this without being banned. All I will say is that I have a young DD who is just getting into sports and this type of “advantage” concerns me greatly and i’m worried about the future of Women’s sports. That’s about as nicely as I can comment.

TheShoesa · 04/11/2019 15:28

Unfortunately it's everywhere. I have a child who plays dodgeball so I was asked to fill a player registration out for competitive playing.

For under 16s it asks the question 'what gender does your child identify as?' I emailed to say I was unable to fill the form in as my child does not have a gender identity. Bit pissed off that it meant we couldn't register to play, though.

I looked a bit deeper into their policies and lo and behold their womens and mens teams are done on gender identity rather than sex. Never mind the point that the under 16s teams are mixed sex so this info is irrelevant.

MindTheMinotaur · 04/11/2019 15:32

The term used is 'awarded' which is a little bit ambiguous to me, can anyone clarify. I am interpreting it that Maxine was the highest scoring person competing in a woman's team. Maxine was not selected or chosen for this award, it is based purely on the scores. Am I right? However a woman was voted as women's player of the year, that is she didn't win it on scores but was selected by peers?

Ameanstreakamilewide · 04/11/2019 15:38

I wonder if anyone knows Rachel Heyhoe Flint's view on this?

My view is that it's adding insult to injury to the female cricketers in Kent.
It's practically trolling them.

FFS Angry

Yet another picture, yet another thousand words.....

Yet another (born) woman loses out on an accolade.

NotTerfNorCis · 04/11/2019 15:56

Oh but apparently letting male-bodied people in women's sports won't cause any problems, no, not at all.

Helmetbymidnight · 04/11/2019 16:39

thats tucked away nicely isnt it!

what a fecking cheat!

why are we accepting this?!!

Helmetbymidnight · 04/11/2019 16:40

too many exclamation marks!

Themyscira · 04/11/2019 16:42

FFS indeed

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2019 16:50

I don't know how this passed me by

Probably because the women's awards were rather tacked onto the stuff about the (other) men?

why are we accepting this?!!

I suppose the Kent teammates are accepting this because of 'her role in the team's County Championship triumph.'Hmm

KatvonHostileExtremist · 04/11/2019 16:56

I think they play on the men's team for a completely different area, but I don't think they'd win anything as they are boringly average for the male team.

🤔🤔🤔🤔

KatvonHostileExtremist · 04/11/2019 16:57

Good, that sentence was hard to write without getting banned

Siameasy · 04/11/2019 17:04

Bloody hell. Taking the p. Have they no shame?

midcenturylegs · 04/11/2019 17:14

I only saw that too, recently. I think these awards only happen well after the season ends, so it went quietly by.. the KentCC have a twitter account (news of the award had 2 likes I think) and I have seen a few tweets where KentCC and corresponding district teams have been added to articles about trans women playing in sport (mainly I think linking Fair Play for Women articles). Maxine has a habit of blocking people very swiftly (perhaps uses the 80,000 strong block list) but from what I've seen there is no nastiness as we have from our favourite cyclist. Batting average does differ between playing for the men's and women's teams (as happened last summer, playing as Max and Maxine) by approx 100 runs . I know for a fact there is some very quiet unrest and girls in the Kent CC U15s have been known to say "what's the point" (in them
Training).
Testosterone levels aren't tested at County level. Not that that matters, physical attributes speak volumes.

littlbrowndog · 04/11/2019 17:24

Yeah what is the point

For girls

Starting out in sport

VickyEadieofThigh · 04/11/2019 17:27

But apparently, "rights aren't like pie, it doesn't mean women lose things if TW gain more rights".

YES. IT. FUCKING. DOES.

Kit19 · 04/11/2019 17:33

Fucking bloody hell!! I’m from Kent originally and used to go to all their games. Well they can whistle for that now. Only good thing is it’s all grist to the mill for peak transing ppl

TiredofthisBS · 04/11/2019 17:35

Oh FFS! They're kidding, right? Can't women and girls have anything for ourselves?

BadgertheBodger · 04/11/2019 17:37

FFS. How anyone can look at this and see fair play is beyond me Hmm if you’re a teen girl what message does this send? No point trying. Sport is not for you. Gives me the rage

midcenturylegs · 04/11/2019 17:43

Maxine peak trans-ed me. (Is that what it's called?). Am glad there's been an onslaught tonight on Twitter about this because I know a lot of parents who read the KentCC account.

koshkat · 04/11/2019 18:14

This is so horribly depressing. Fuckers.

aliasundercover · 04/11/2019 18:47

But apparently, "rights aren't like pie, it doesn't mean women lose things if TW gain more rights".

YES. IT. FUCKING. DOES.

Agreed of course, but the TRA position is that Blythin is a woman and always has been, so women have not lost anything. Any argument we use against this will be met by "But she is a woman".
Clearly crap, but it shifts the whole area of debate.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 04/11/2019 18:48

Martina isn’t impressed! 🥰
