I don't know how this passed me by, but transgender cricketer Maxine Blythin was awarded 2019 Kent Woman Player of the Year.
I have no words left to describe this situation, none at all.

McDuffy, I'm sorry to hear Baroness Heyhoe Flint is no longer with us.

And i'm glad to hear that she would have been as thoroughly pissed off about this shit show, as we are.

lydiamajora · 05/11/2019 17:01

Hard to say, RoyalCorgi - stupidity? Easy woke points? Shameless opportunism?

Their usual posts on Twitter are lucky to receive ten replies. Well, erm, they've certainly improved their audience engagement! Now they just need to figure out how to keep that engagement up without having all the comments telling them they're full of shit.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2019 17:08

I was wondering if the award was on some specific metric like combined batting/bowling statistics which blythin topped - in which case the club would be damned if they did and damned and cancelled Hmm if they didn't. But if that was what happened - no violins, they should have been able to anticipate that situation from the outset.

teawamutu · 05/11/2019 17:34

Looking at that ratio (is 100% still a ratio?) the interesting question for me is, does this show that people have been thinking this all along and now feel brave enough to say so, OR that they simply didn't know? That with sunlight, we're starting to see what normal people think?

Fatshedra · 05/11/2019 17:39

Written to my Msp on this to flag unfairness on women's sport

midcenturylegs · 05/11/2019 21:00

Club awards are granted based on stats. Have been to a few of these ceremonies and that's how it goes - always the same talented males (and previously females) getting the awards for different comps. Which is the way it should be.
The Players Award is different, that is based on team spirit, focus, personal development, integrity. Was just thinking that perhaps Kent CC didn't have a choice in awarding MB the award - what shouldn't have happened was that MB was employed to join the team at all.

Not sure if it was here or another Er forum. Someone mentioned women's cricket not being lucrative so why are trans women bothering. This is changing. In Australia the Cricket Board pledged a campaign about 3 years ago (I've probably got the dates wrong a little) to ensure that in 5 years women would be earning on par with men. Not really sure what the ECB are thinking but poss along the same lines. (If no one knows I can try to find out).

Nice

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/11/2019 07:19

To right! But the male opponents probably won’t like it really will they?

midcenturylegs · 06/11/2019 08:10

@Fatshedra that probably came out a little harsh! What I meant was that the more talented sportspersons will do better in most tournaments (usually a few different ones each summer) hence taking a lot of trophies as it'll be based purely on numbers. Players' player awards v different, recognises improvement etc

andyoldlabour · 06/11/2019 08:12

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD

That is really going to upset the apple cart, the fighter saying that even though they have had hormone treatment, they are still stronger than women.
Thank god for one athlete who has a sense of right and wrong.

Play against someone your own size.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 06/11/2019 11:57

With the - now is it NZ or Aus? - women’s football teams now paying comparable fees to the male players - I wonder if anyone will take full advantage of getting the men’s wages in the woman’s league?

RoyalCorgi · 06/11/2019 12:05

They have absolutely no way of containing this. Zero.

Does there come a tipping point, I wonder? When every women's team has at least four male players, or five male players, or six? And someone says that this madness has to stop? I just genuinely wonder how far it will be allowed to continue.

NotTerfNorCis · 06/11/2019 12:19

It's already happened in Iran. Apparently their women's football team almost entirely consists of transwomen.

koshkat · 06/11/2019 12:40

Was just thinking that perhaps Kent CC didn't have a choice in awarding MB the award - what shouldn't have happened was that MB was employed to join the team at all.

This is the point I made but was deleted. If you take the position that X is truly female then you HAVE to give them the award for women if their stats are the best and the award is based on stats. Otherwise you are admitting that you do not really see X as a woman. So any mediocre XY player will ALWAYS get such an award over an XX person because they are hugely advantaged in the women's game.

Hope to god that this does not also get deleted...

andyoldlabour · 06/11/2019 13:04

This is the Iranian women's football team playing last year in the CAFA, no sign of transwomen there.
I think what you are referring to, happened back in 2015, when an Iranian football official had a training session interrupted and then threw out several male players dressed in the women's hejab kit. Unlike our authoritites, the Iranian authorities then had every squad player "gender" tested.

The latest article from our wondrous KentOnline. I don't think this story is going away.
Sadly, the current Kent Captain Tammy Beaumont, said:

""As far as I'm aware there's no conclusive proof of any 'advantages' of being a trans woman in cricket."

I wonder if Tammy will be saying that when she cannot get a place in the team?

Tammy Beaumont is being so foolish and short sighted here. I think that she sees herself as 'kind'

TheShoesa · 06/11/2019 14:25

What I don't understand is how this is not discriminating against women with the protected characteristic of 'sex'

The EA allows not having people born male who have the protected characteristic of gender reassignment on teams for women born female to allow for safe and fair competition. Why won't these sporting bodies exercise that right? (That's a rhetorical question btw!)

ErrolTheDragon · 06/11/2019 14:32

Cricket is a sport for all and no one should be excluded because of who they are.

Blythin isn't excluded from cricket - can and does play for a mens team.

Re the 'taking it out on individuals' - I'd lay much of the blame on clubs and sporting bodies which are being unfair to women in their misguided methods of 'inclusiveness', but individuals are responsible for their own choices. Compare and contrast Anne Veriato

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3736554-Transwoman-MMA-fighter-says-unfair-to-compete-against-women

ErrolTheDragon · 06/11/2019 14:34

What I don't understand is how this is not discriminating against women with the protected characteristic of 'sex'

It's not you - it's them (ie clubs, sports bodies) not understanding that's what they're doing. Or understanding but not caring.

Kit19 · 06/11/2019 14:40

What Tammy means is “I haven’t done any research because let’s face it, the moment I suggest Maxine has an unfair advantage I’m out of the team plus it’s not as if any men from Kent CC management is going to stop up to get in the firing line”

Siameasy · 06/11/2019 14:47

The woke allies have only got buzzwords and set phrases which mean nothing.

Cricket is a sport for all and no one should be excluded because of who they are.

I’m Siameasy and I’m crap at cricket but no one should be excluded because of who they are so let me on the team. It’s just waffle.

TheShoesa · 06/11/2019 14:57

'Inclusive' is the word that I am seeing everywhere as justification for everything that discriminates against female born women.

'we need gender identity info to ensure we progress as an inclusive sport'

RoyalCorgi · 06/11/2019 15:32

Cricket is a sport for all and no one should be excluded because of who they are.

It's so bizarrely stupid. You can be excluded from playing for the English team because you're not English. You can be excluded from playing for the under-18s side because you're 25. You can be excluded from playing from the women's team because you're not a woman.
