I don't know how this passed me by, but transgender cricketer Maxine Blythin was awarded 2019 Kent Woman Player of the Year.
I have no words left to describe this situation, none at all.

Colour me shocked.

The player's player of the year is not Maxine

midcenturylegs · 05/11/2019 13:16

I'm wondering if the fact that none of the other players have come out of the woodwork to support Maxine speaks volumes

Callmejudith · 05/11/2019 13:25

I think they're too scared to NOT endorse Maxine but they can choose to stay quiet instead

koshkat · 05/11/2019 14:05

Deleted for what MN? Stating that Maxine is male?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 05/11/2019 14:06

Kosh didn’t you get the memo? It’s 2019 and you can be anything...

I swear to god my eyeballs are going to roll out of my head one of these days.

koshkat · 05/11/2019 14:10

It's bloody madness. And MN facilitating this is depressing indeed.

andyoldlabour · 05/11/2019 14:12

The original article was dated 28th September 2019, and was updated yesterday at 17:58, just three hours after I started this thread - I wonder why and what did they update?
I am just pleased that this has now been made quite public, because judging by the Twitter responses, a lot of people were not aware of this.

OP posts:
midcenturylegs · 05/11/2019 14:45

Andy there were I thought 500+ comments there yesterday, but not any more. Am too wondering what happened since that update. But I'm not an old hand in Twitter-sphere so I might be wrong.

I was looking up the player of the year, mistakenly got to another Megan who plays cricket for Oz. She is a lesbian, she might be someone Fair Play could contact Esp given her latest retweet?

Call yes my thoughts exactly, the silence is deafening

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2019 14:57

I can see loads of twitter responses, midcenturylegs, including new ones. No idea of how many, scrolling and scrolling

Megan Belt has been nominated the "players player" - by her colleagues, which is understandable.
The Kent Board however, decided to award Maxine the 2019 Kent Woman Player of the Year accolade.
I cannot believe how efficient MN is at getting news out there and how many people are on the same wavelength, which is heartening, because I thought I was banging my head against a wall on the sports issue.
As an aside, I don't have a Twitter account, being content to lurk and absorb as much information as possible.
Did 500+ comments really get removed from twitter? Shock
If so, this is censorship on a huge scale.

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2019 15:14

Some comments have been removed but it's a small proportion. I've no idea if there's any way (other than manually) of counting them. I don't have a twitter account either, maybe if people who are on it can't see comments it would mean Kent was using a block list....hopefully not?!

lydiamajora · 05/11/2019 15:41

Count looks to be 788 comments upon last check (ten mins ago). So, well done Kent Cricket Grin

andyoldlabour · 05/11/2019 15:44

ErrolTheDragon

Yes, they are really getting ratio'd on that twitter feed, now up to 788 replies.

I love to see own goals, thay can be so funny, but well over 780 of them is hilarious. Grin

There must be a cricketing equivalent of an 'own goal'?

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 05/11/2019 16:12

My favourite of the Twatter responses so far, chosen from amongst stiff competition, is this one line comment from @LOVEKentCoast

"What an extraordinary coincidence"

Isn't it just? A 6ft 4" transwoman joins the team and to everyone's amazement it just so happens that she excels at playing cricket, at least in comparison to her teammates of the old fashioned cunty type.

Such an extraordinary coincidence, whoever could have predicted such a thing?

BarbaraStrozzi · 05/11/2019 16:14

Out, hit wicket?

I can’t see this happening in baseball in the US - it’s like a religion there isn’t it? Or am I wrong?

Yes I don't think Blythin's team mates give a shiny shit so long as they top th league.

Bit like the women on Porth rugby team (who are not only fielding a team unfairly but putting their opponents at risk of spinal injuries).

It will come back to bite them on the arse as Errol says when every team starts fielding ringers.

andyoldlabour · 05/11/2019 16:40

"I'm old-fashioned enough to believe that the people who run sports clubs should have some kind of sense of decency and fair play."

From my early days in sport - tennis, badminton and cricket, it was based on if you were the right sort of person, what your background was. There was a lot of backbiting and misogyny, particularly cricket where the women were supposed to slave away making tea or maybe scoring.
If this isn't stopped then it will result in a kind of arms race (or *** race [grin}) where all sense of fairness is abandoned.

OP posts:
midcenturylegs · 05/11/2019 16:42

Ah I must have been counting wrong Confused Ignore me!
Good to see the comments coming through (still) thick and fast.

Datun · 05/11/2019 16:42

It will come back to bite them on the arse as Errol says when every team starts fielding ringers.

Course it will. Are these women really so devoid of imagination as to be wholly unable to play this forward?

First one, then two, then five.

They have absolutely no way of containing this. Zero.
