Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I've just been called a TERF...

On Facebook.

Local Facebook page, a man posts a discussion about Prolife protesters outside abortion clinics. A picture of himself with a sign saying 'screw these guys', pointing to the Prolifers.

He then proceeds to lecture women thinking about counter protesting, saying sometimes it makes the situation worse (yet he posts a photo of himself clearly antagonising the prolifers at a previous protest Hmm )

I point out to people thinking about counter protesting, with a particular group who are mentioned, that the prochoice group hold certain views about gender that conflict with my own.
That they believe the word woman should not be used on placards as 'people of all genders use abortion services'
Obviously it's just women that use abortion services.

So a sign stating 'A woman's womb is no ones business but her own' would not be allowed. It would have to say 'A person's womb is no ones business but their own'

Anyway. I was blocked by the OP.

This below was the reason.

Funnily enough, before he blocked me I received around a DOZEN likes from Women agreeing with what I said. They also believe that the word woman is Not dirty and should be a use able word in relation to abortion services.

Yet this man think he knows better than them and me.

He blocked me again before I could reply.

Argh.

I've just been called a TERF...

Anyway... back to the grownups.

TERFisNotAnInsult · 29/09/2019 15:40

She knows anything she says with get ripped to shreds as completely inaccurate.

Leave her be. She obviously knows she is beaten. Bless.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 15:44

Yes, please do try to pretend as much as possible that no one could possibly disagree with you.

Now, I think we'd all like to hear another repetition of the reasons why it's fabulous to be against trans people!

And GO

TheAlternativeTentacle · 29/09/2019 15:45

Diatribe:
a forceful and bitter verbal attack against someone or something

Seems to me it is the TRAs with the diatribe against those terrible TERFs that have concerns about the safety and dignity of women and girls.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/09/2019 15:45

What’s your ‘truth’ then? Do tell. You obviously believe it wholeheartedly. Please don’t keep it secret.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 29/09/2019 15:46

Now, I think we'd all like to hear another repetition of the reasons why it's fabulous to be against trans people!

For women and girls, not against trans people.

Ever thought of doing a smidgen of research? At all?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/09/2019 15:46

We know that you can’t explain how a human being can change from one biological sex to the other, @Karkasaurus - that is why you won’t answer our questions.

We know that you cannot say anything to justify letting penis-owners into biological females’ spaces (changing rooms, rape crisis centres as staff, etc), or to justify letting them take over women’s sports, or women only shortlists, or women’s prizes in business or other arenas where women have fought for years to try to achieve parity, or to justify prescribing damaging medical treatment for children that can cause them to be permanently sterile, incapable of sexual fulfilment, with osteoporosis and decreased academic/intellectual capability. I don’t believe these things are OK, or that anyone can convince me otherwise. And I am sure you can’t - which is why you refuse to try.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/09/2019 15:48

Any belief system must be able to stand up to scrutiny and debate.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 15:50

I'm not in the slightest bit interested in trying to talk you out of your views.

But please, tell us more about them. Lots more.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 29/09/2019 15:50

What are you interested in Kark?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/09/2019 15:52

We don’t just have views - we have facts.

And one fact is that you CANNOT explain how a human can change from one biological sex to another. Because it is not possible.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 15:55

You can't change biological sex? I did not know that. How fascinating. What else?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 29/09/2019 16:00

Why are you here then? Explain.

TERFisNotAnInsult · 29/09/2019 16:01

FGS.

Why indulge this person?

They are clearly reveling in the attention.

Gross.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 16:02

We don't use words like gross on this thread, please. It's childish.

TERFisNotAnInsult · 29/09/2019 16:06

Well, you would know. How old are you? I'm guessing 14, 15?

When you've grown up and had a few years experience of what it's like to be a woman in a man's world you will understand why it's so important to protect the few rights we have managed to gain for ourselves.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 16:11

If I have been on Mumsnet for ten years and you think I'm fourteen, I must have been something of a child genius. Of course, it's rather weird that I had a baby when I was six...

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 29/09/2019 16:11

Aw, did I miss a classic throw toys out of pram moment? Comments are all gone now.

Also bless you terryleather for the guide to beardy wokebros.

TERFisNotAnInsult · 29/09/2019 16:17

Gosh. How bizarre.

You must be a misogynist then.

Karkasaurus · 29/09/2019 16:37

Of course. I hate women. It's the only logical explanation for my empathy for trans people. You've sussed it!

TERFisNotAnInsult · 29/09/2019 16:51

And your assumption that I'm a TERF is the only logical explination to my empathy for women and victims of rape?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 29/09/2019 16:51

You really don’t know that a human cannot change their DNA,@Karkasaurus? Really?. And you are proud of this fact? Shock

TERFisNotAnInsult · 29/09/2019 16:53

So putting the rights of bio women over the needs of trans women = Transphobe.

But putting the needs of trans people over the needs of bio women doesn't = misogynist?

How does that work?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 29/09/2019 16:54

If someone has a link to that bloke who admitted that he made everything in his sex is a spectrum article up this would seem an apt moment to post it.

terryleather · 29/09/2019 16:55

Glad you found the guide useful Kittens Grin
