Special trans taxi services to keep them safe

Hey BBC, where's our front-page promoted article and video interview about all the things women have done for and by each other, for centuries, to stay safe in public? No?

The "look at poor ickle us suffering from these things nobody has ever had to worry about before" is so infuriating. We have been living this shit forever.

Oops Rufus just saw your reply! I’m so relieved, here it is again for those who missed it - the bottom that launched 1000 “wtf google ads?”

If I identify as a TW (whilst bee bien a woman, could I get a female born taxi driver?

Well, they don't say anything about only biological women allowed in the cab, just that you're booking a female taxi driver?
So anyone could ask for one - see what they say.
Say you only want a biological woman to drive. Not sure what ID'ing as a TW to ask it has to to do with the price of bread, as anyone could ask the same thing.

Ereshkigal · 07/09/2019 19:20

I've answered everything that's been thrown at me, really interesting that some are unable to answer questions at them..

Which question wasn't answered?

Ereshkigal · 07/09/2019 19:21

I'm merely allowing them to do their own explaining.

Yes it's really quite enlightening. As ever.

CatalogueUniverse · 07/09/2019 19:23

in my scenario I specifically asked for and had it agreed that it would be a female driver.

That is not what turns up.

I call the cab firm and ask what happened?

They state that my driver is a woman.

Now what do I do? Exactly what are my choices, remembering i’m pre traumatised and I know the male violence and sexual assault stats. And I’ve been exposed via media to the reactions of some (stats unknown) of transwomen when their identity is not validated.

What do I do?
Reject taxi service - risk increases plus accused of transphobia
walk - risk increases
Wait - risk increases
Take the taxi - risk goes from 2% to 98%

What a great bunch of choices because I had the audacity to be female, go out and consume alcohol so can’t drive.

If I were as into conflating things as other posters I’d state it must be a conspiracy to stop women going out.

RosesAndRaindrops · 07/09/2019 19:25

The one purple had a go at answering.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/09/2019 19:26

I never thought I'd be in a majority women environment where fellow women were putting down the idea of a service that would objectively keep women (potentially including them) safe from predatory men.

Purely on the basis that it will exclude men. Some of who are statistically likely to be predators.

What a fucking time to be alive.

Yeah two are really enlightening as ever. They'll never realise that though as long as they've got their cheerleaders Grin

I haven't for the record - I've said female only taxis are a good idea and should be available for those women who want to use them.

Oh dear, Roses Grinquite desperate

Karkasaurus · 07/09/2019 19:36

@CatalogueUniverse

What do you expect the solution to be?

2BthatUnnoticed · 07/09/2019 19:37

Here’s what that 2% murder risk looks like in real life: I cannot find a single example of a female taxi driver killing a passenger.

(there are very few examples of women killing strangers - stacks of males doing it.)

Every search result is either:

  • a female taxi driver killed by male passenger OR
  • a female passenger killed by male taxi driver
LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 07/09/2019 19:39

Or a woman who wasn’t always a woman...

Earlywalker · 07/09/2019 19:52

Not entirely relevant to the thread but I see the ‘men commit 98% of sexual crimes’ line said a lot, not disputing it at all. Just curious what % of men actually commit sexual crimes? I’ve been wondering for a while, is it a large % of men overall? Or a small % of men committing multiple acts? I can’t find this information anywhere and I think it’s important to addressing the issue. Wondered if anyone here knew? I know huge amounts go unreported so hard to find clear figures but I can’t seem to find anything!

RosesAndRaindrops · 07/09/2019 19:55

Desperate? Seeing as it wasn't me who brought up enlightening first, other way round to try and smear, surely.....
As i said, you're just expected to let it slide and pretend it's not happening - nope, won't lol
As much as you want me to.
Yep. Enlightening as you said, so crack on. Don't think you'll ever realise what you do, meh ah well Grin

tilder · 07/09/2019 19:55

If I was running a taxi service looking to cater to a group of people who are vulnerable, my business model would be to cater for women. Statistically speaking, I would expect greater demand.

Not sure that's in the spirit of the thread though...

PurpleCrowbar · 07/09/2019 19:57

haven't for the record - I've said female only taxis are a good idea and should be available for those women who want to use them.

But you have also said that you'd consider such a service 'discriminatory'. & lots of other posters have said yes, of course it would discriminate against males & we think that is fair & proportionate to the increased risk.

Which side of the fence are you, Roses? Ok to discriminate against males or not? You can't have both.

Either it's ok to discriminate against males (I think Karkasaurus is arguing that it isn't) or it is not.

Come on, pick those splinters out!

TheAlternativeTentacle · 07/09/2019 20:00

Just curious what % of men actually commit sexual crimes?

Curiously, around only 1% of sex crimes are ever taken through the court system and end in any actual punishment. Nobody knows, due to men being allowed to get away with it in 99.9% of the time. Most women who are raped or sexually abused won't ever report it because they know their knickers will get more questioning than the man that raped them.

Even with video evidence, they get away with it.

Earlywalker · 07/09/2019 20:00

Men definitely are more of a risk, but I do agree women can also pose a risk.

I think that’s partly where views can differ. When I was younger, girl gangs posed way more of a risk to me than male gangs. I was attacked more by women/girls than boys/men. However, as I aged that definitely changed.

Anyone remember this from last year?

www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/girl-gang-terrorised-taxi-drivers-14788849.amp

Women only taxis should have the right to exist, it’s not sexism, it’s accepting vulnerabilities in society and taking steps to address them. The onus shouldn’t be on women to keep other women safe, or themselves to chose a female only company. But while men aren’t addressing it, it’s the next best thing.

Doesn’t mean either the driver or passenger are safe, by any stretch, but sadly nothing in life is risk free.

RosesAndRaindrops · 07/09/2019 20:01

But you have also said that you'd consider such a service 'discriminatory

I said I can see why people would see it as discriminatory if you excluded everyone from getting in the taxi apart from biological females. Not that I specifically would.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 07/09/2019 20:02

Anyone remember this from last year?

I believe we remember it because it is so rare. That's the point.
