Special trans taxi services to keep them safe

Hey BBC, where's our front-page promoted article and video interview about all the things women have done for and by each other, for centuries, to stay safe in public? No?

The "look at poor ickle us suffering from these things nobody has ever had to worry about before" is so infuriating. We have been living this shit forever.

Shame you have to keep explaining it eresh

Sterling work as always though

Dangerfloof · 07/09/2019 18:17

I'm not safe unless I'm not alone with someone who is prepared to sexually abuse me. And I can't tell that from whether they have a penis or not
And I can't tell from looking if that tw is in fact a tw with a right to be wherever I meet them( be it taxi, toilet, prison, changing room, gym etc )or a pervert.
Rather than chance meeting a man with bad intentions against me in one of these places, I will avoid them. Until I can be sure that I am safer. This changes my life and not for the better.as I am sure your life has changed since your assault.

he statistical likelihood of actually being on the end of a racially motivated beating doesn’t have to be very high for you to prefer being in a cab with a non racist? This is surely just the same no

That's how I see it too

Fraggling · 07/09/2019 18:19

'You can choose not to take a taxi.'

Yes let's tell all the teen girls to walk home pissed in the middle of the night :D

TBF that's what we did / night buses as no way could afford cabs. If anything had happened it would have been seen as our own fault, for making ourselves vulnerable.

The focus on the perpetrator is largely absent except when it's needed for some reason eg telling London women that unlicensed cabs put them at risk of rape, and to ring their not free service to book a cab (tfl).

Ereshkigal · 07/09/2019 18:20

If you believe it should be a legal requirement that you have a female born driver available to you

Apple really need to up their emoji game. Where is the straw man one?

BadgerOfDoom · 07/09/2019 18:20

Nobody has yet been able to answer my question as to why we shouldn't view every woman as a potential threat to her child, given that 70% of parents that murder their children are female.

Datun · 07/09/2019 18:21

If you are that concerned about risk that you refuse to get into a vehicle driven by someone who has or has ever had a penis, then you will find yourself in a rather limited position.

Why is that then? What possible reason could women have for not wanting to become taxi drivers?

Fraggling · 07/09/2019 18:21

'
If you believe it should be a legal requirement that you have a female born driver available to you, on demand, to drive you to your destination'

Grin

There's so much straw around we could open a stable

Dangerfloof · 07/09/2019 18:22

If you prefer to be driven by a woman, that option is available to you, isn't it?
Not apparently in Glasgow and not in my city.

Karkasaurus · 07/09/2019 18:23

I'm quite sure no one on the thread wants to acknowledge that women are more likely to be child killers. Because it's not about statistical risk and analysis. It's about transphobia.

Datun · 07/09/2019 18:23

Thought I'd get it in before I got Roses, you do know that transwomen are biologically men, dear me!

Indeed they are, roses.

Ereshkigal · 07/09/2019 18:24

How many child murders is that stat based on exactly?

And how many rapes and sexual assaults on women by men do you think the 98% is based on?

RosesAndRaindrops · 07/09/2019 18:24

There's so much straw around we could open a stable

Why is it straw when people on the thread have literally said that they want female drivers to be there on demand when they want a taxi?
Funny no-one's answering and just shout straw instead.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/09/2019 18:24

The thing I don’t like about these types of threads and ive said it before

Is the

Poster A says something...a few pages later ,

Poster B says ‘ omg I can’t believe poster A said ‘??????’

Then i go back and check what poster A said...and find out that poster B is talking bollocks

Really frustrating, though maybe i should just assume that poster B always tells porkies...might be easier

Datun · 07/09/2019 18:25

I'm quite certain, that women with postnatal depression are deemed a statistical risk.

However, they are not deemed a risk in terms of sex segregation.

Someone better go on a big Calamine run, soon.

Ereshkigal · 07/09/2019 18:25

I'm quite sure no one on the thread wants to acknowledge that women are more likely to be child killers. Because it's not about statistical risk and analysis

No, I'd like to unpack this statistic. How many murders in the U.K. annually is it based on?

Karkasaurus · 07/09/2019 18:25

Indeed, the whole purpose of the thread is about wanting a female taxi driver on demand. Amazing to then suggest otherwise.

Fraggling · 07/09/2019 18:25

Aha

Women who are wary of men, as tbh all women are likely to be to some extent, are manphobic.

Say no to going home with 4 men from the pub but yes if it's 4 women? You're an irrational manphobe and need to consider your biases.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 07/09/2019 18:26

Oooh thanks eresh

Ds boyfriend is currently drinking a black jack gin and lemonade...wine is better Grin

RosesAndRaindrops · 07/09/2019 18:27

If you're going to segregate yourself away from all men, you're going to find yourself in limited situations assuming you're in the UK.
Not just in taxis either. As we're not segregated here. Surely you realise you're limiting your options by excluding half the population based on their sex.

Ereshkigal · 07/09/2019 18:28

Let's be clear: the sex crime statistic will be 6 figures. 98% of those perps are male and most of them are committed against female people.

Dangerfloof · 07/09/2019 18:29

Overall, fathers were significantly more likely to kill their children than mothers, and were more likely to use violent methods of killing, have previous convictions for violent offences, perpetrate multiple killings, and have a history of substance misuse or

Ereshkigal · 07/09/2019 18:30

It's just poundshop sophistry to try and make out women shouldn't be wary of men because of this or that unrelated statistic.

But then I guess that's the level on display here.

PurpleCrowbar · 07/09/2019 18:31

Actually, I live in a country where female taxi drivers don't exist, to all extents & purposes - the two (both widows who inherited the car & had kids to support...) I've met in five years of using about 5-10 Ubers a week, were both doing it in the teeth of considerable family opposition - it's seen as neither a safe nor a respectable occupation for a woman.

Because of dodgy male customers.

I happily use ubers, although I do try to arrange to travel with friends rather than be alone in them after dark. Many of my female friends won't - it's common for those who can afford it to have a part time/full time driver they trust. With increasingly independent teenagers, I'm edging towards this option too.

A women's only taxi service would be nice, frankly. I'd use it, support it & feel a damn sight happier with my dds having more independence to travel freely.

It pisses me off that where this DOES exist, some asshole always needs to come along & chunter about it. No. Go away & get your own nice things. Stop trying to take them from women.
