Special trans taxi services to keep them safe

Hey BBC, where's our front-page promoted article and video interview about all the things women have done for and by each other, for centuries, to stay safe in public? No?

The "look at poor ickle us suffering from these things nobody has ever had to worry about before" is so infuriating. We have been living this shit forever.

Do women pose MORE risk or do they pose NO risk?

Which is it?

I made it quite clear that I absolutely know women as a class pose a small risk, dwarfed by the risk that males as a class pose.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 18:59

Women do not beat up transwomen

How do you know none of them don't? You state it like fact that women never do that - just because it's statistically more likely for men to do it, means women don't.
Of course they can and do. We're not one big mass of all the same and women have been known to be violent. So you can't possibly say they're women so they don't do that.

I really worry about the standard of reading comprehension exhibited by some posters

really, what are they teaching in schools these days?

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 19:01

Jelly baby brain theory.

FlyingOink · 06/09/2019 19:01

Just to clarify, self-id is an example of a "right" nobody else has under any other similar circumstance. And the right to same-sex hospital wards is a right that has been effectively taken away.
Just to be super clear that I don't think a taxi service the other side of the Atlantic affects my rights.
As I mentioned before, it is the difference in reaction between the trans taxi service being celebrated and female-only taxi services being banned that is the issue.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 19:03

I think most feminists understand quite clearly that all males hate women at some time or another

See, that way of thinking is just stupid to me. Just like it's ridiculous saying women never beat people up, it's ridiculous to say all males hate women at some time or another.
It's lumping all together like one hive mind.Whether you're doing it to women or men.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 06/09/2019 19:03

Bernard - some schools are teaching that TWAW, that girls may not wear skirts or the police will be called to lock them out of schools (transphobia innit!) that little children can be born in the wrong body and must be immediately affirmed as the opposite sex. (you did ask)

It's no wonder they can't understand a thread on here Grin

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 19:04

I realise this is a terrific ask, but you can actually have a discussion with other people without resorting to insults.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 19:04

You HAVE women only taxi services!

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 19:05

It's no wonder they can't understand a thread on here

If you're lumping me in with the youngsters who've just left school, sorry to disappoint but I'm an oldie.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 19:05

And sneery sarcasm, too. You can have a discussion without that. But I wouldn't spoil your fun.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 19:06

Take my eyes, but not the sarcasm!

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 19:07

You HAVE women only taxi services!

Exactly! One place has said no (Glasgow) so that means no women are allowed women only taxi services when a quick google says that's clearly not the case and there's lots out there. Or something.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 19:08

You HAVE women only taxi services!

Who is "you"? Not much use if they have them in London but the one in your area wasn't allowed a licence.

PurpleCrowbar · 06/09/2019 19:09

Karkasaurus do you think women only taxi services should exist? For the avoidance of doubt, this would mean that the drivers were born female & that they only drove female born passengers.

If I started one, would you want me to be stopped from offering that service?

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 19:09

No, there are loads of female taxi drivers available in my area.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 19:10

Working in female-only services?

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 19:11

And I'm pretty sure if they're not available anywhere it's because it's just not a service that would be financially viable in an area that is not built up.

If there was a huge demand for it nationwide, it would be available. But there isn't.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 19:12

I'm nowhere near London or down South and there's several here.

FlyingOink · 06/09/2019 19:12

How do you know none of them don't? You state it like fact that women never do that - just because it's statistically more likely for men to do it, means women don't. Of course they can and do.
Not just statistically more likely, but massively more likely. Almost never it's a woman, almost always it's a man. Almost.

It's common speech to state that "X doesn't happen" when it is vanishingly rare.
I could say people don't get killed by chihuahuas, and you could find a story of someone who was.
Which is then more correct?
"People don't get killed by chihuahuas"
Or
"People get killed by chihuahuas"
The second is technically correct and I would expect you to choose it despite (or perhaps because of) the fact it misrepresents the frequency at which people are killed by chihuahuas. It makes it seem like there is a real risk of being killed by a chihuahua as opposed to say a bigger, stronger, more aggressive dog. There isn't, and a few outliers don't disprove the rule.
It isn't women attacking transwomen. It is homophobic men.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 19:12

Why would I care what kind of taxi service you wanted to start?

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 19:13

Yes, that's the reality of the market. Not the point though. I'm sure a trans taxi service would fare even worse outside of a built up area.

PurpleCrowbar · 06/09/2019 19:14

Not the question.

Let's say I want to hire ONLY female drivers, accept ONLY female passengers, & advertise accordingly because my research tells me there's a demand.

Do you think my business should be applauded, protested or neither?

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 19:16

I don't care what kind of taxi service you want to set up. I literally don't care.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 19:16

I'd also like to hear a straight answer to that question.
