Special trans taxi services to keep them safe

Hey BBC, where's our front-page promoted article and video interview about all the things women have done for and by each other, for centuries, to stay safe in public? No?

The "look at poor ickle us suffering from these things nobody has ever had to worry about before" is so infuriating. We have been living this shit forever.

Yes they do, actually. And if we're talking about statistics, as we said earlier, just because something is not as statistically likely as something else, it does not mean there is no risk.

There's virtually no risk of you being raped by a taxi driver. But are you happy for me to tell you are being ridiculous to take evasive actions to avoid being attacked by one?

A female taxi driver who is transphobic and violent IS a potential risk to a trans passenger.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 18:40

And it doesn't have to be physical violence either. It is not nice to be verbally abused either. Again something there IS a risk of.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 18:40

The same blind spot as before. Do you understand what safeguarding is, karkasaurus? It is risk-based. Why do we have DBS checks on adults who specifically choose to work with children again? Should we just take their word that they're doing it for the right reasons?

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 18:44

We don't have DBS checks on people who will happen to be working in the same office as women, for example, so that is not a comparable analogy.

Of course you have DBS checks, on men and women, who work with vulnerable people. Why are they bothering to check the women?

truthisarevolutionaryact · 06/09/2019 18:45

I love it as the real motivations of certain posters seep out through their comments. The hatred of women, the misogyny, the insistence that women pose the same aggressive and sexual threats to other women as men do. The faux 'innocent misrepresentation' of very clear points made by women.

We really do see you lot. Grin

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 18:45

A female taxi driver who is transphobic and violent IS a potential risk to a trans passenger.

And once more the straw man implication that posters think trans people shouldn't be allowed their own taxi service.

I think most people believe they should. They just contrast it with how women are treated when for their safety, peace of mind and comfort (and privacy and dignity in other cases) they would prefer a female only space.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 06/09/2019 18:46

A female taxi driver who is transphobic and violent IS a potential risk to a trans passenger

cor. how many transphobic female taxi drivers could dance on the head of a pin?

And it doesn't have to be physical violence either

so it is about the risk of hearing someone say something mean. got it

FlyingOink · 06/09/2019 18:46

A female taxi driver who is transphobic and violent IS a potential risk to a trans passenger.
A female taxi driver is unlikely. A violent female is unlikely. A violent female who attacks a transwoman fare is extremely unlikely. Vanishingly tiny statistics. Each unlikely event multiplied by another.

Why keep pretending that the biggest risk transwomen face is women who don't agree with them? It's insulting to the transwomen who are beaten or killed by homophobic men. You're basically implying their physical safety is assured so the biggest problem is a taxi driver's attitude?

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 18:47

Again, another accusation that we hate women.

It's actually just boring, you realise that?

FlyingOink · 06/09/2019 18:47

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly you said it better Grin

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 18:48

Of course you have DBS checks, on men and women, who work with vulnerable people. Why are they bothering to check the women?

I think probably because it would be illegal discrimination against men not to, for the most part. But it's very clear which sex poses more safety risk.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 18:48

So you would be quite happy for me to tell you've virtually no chance of being raped so avoiding men is stupid?

Same thing.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 18:49

Do women pose MORE risk or do they pose NO risk?

Which is it?

CatalogueUniverse · 06/09/2019 18:49

This is all such nonsense.

Trans services by and for trans people, with rules about who is and isn’t trans - go for it. I’d very much like to read about how the criteria works.

Women’s services by and for biological women - very very exclusionary and must include biological males. Criteria easily defined - biological female.

That is the problem.

In fact, can anyone name anything that is still restricted by sex?

Apart from bodily functions. Oh and women can’t identify into inheriting a title - primogeniture does not recognise gender identity. Funny how that was put in specifically in the 2004 GRA.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 18:50

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 18:51

So you would be quite happy for me to tell you've virtually no chance of being raped so avoiding men is stupid?

That's incorrect though.

FlyingOink · 06/09/2019 18:51

And once more the straw man implication that posters think trans people shouldn't be allowed their own taxi service.

Exactly. Crack on, have trans-only clubs, bars, taxis, restaurants, cruises, hotels, whatever. Just don't complain when women want to be able to do the same thing.
If you can see a need for them, but you can't see a need for us, you are either misrepresenting the level of danger they face or ignoring the level of danger we face.
Or acquiescing to their needs whilst ignoring the needs of women. Or inventing extra rights for them and giving away ours (without a mandate to do so).
The cognitive dissonance must be painful.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 18:52

Trans services by and for trans people, with rules about who is and isn’t trans - go for it. I’d very much like to read about how the criteria works.

Oh yes. Would love to hear the definition and how the gatekeeping worked.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 18:52

It's not as likely as meeting a man who has no ill intention towards you at all. So what are you worried about?

Or is that not how it works?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 06/09/2019 18:53

Again, another accusation that we hate women

I think most feminists understand quite clearly that all males hate women at some time or another. Male socialisation means males feel entitled to service from women and feel rage when it's not delivered

males who like to comply with feminine standards of appearance are not special in this respect

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 18:54

What right of yours has been given away because there's a trans taxi service in New York??

Please please enlighten me.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 18:56

Or is that not how it works?

That's laughable Grin Men commit approximately 98% of all sex offences. And most of them happen to women. It's perfectly rational for women to be wary of strange men. In fact we are blamed when we aren't and we are assaulted. Why are you even trying (badly) to argue this point?

FlyingOink · 06/09/2019 18:58

Karkasaurus you missed this bit:
Crack on, have trans-only clubs, bars, taxis, restaurants, cruises, hotels, whatever.
As you leapt on that part, presumably you agree that you have misrepresented the dangers and ignored women's needs? You ok with those bits?

truthisarevolutionaryact · 06/09/2019 18:58

Just commenting that the woman hating is very evident as you try to persuade feminists that all the statistics about the risks that males pose to women are untrue. I'm sure you do find it boring - women find it essential for our safety and survival to identify gaslighting

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 06/09/2019 18:58

what right of yours has been given away

are you reading the thread Karkasuarus? the point being made repeatedly is comparing the reception for a trans only service with the reception for women only services
