Hey BBC, where's our front-page promoted article and video interview about all the things women have done for and by each other, for centuries, to stay safe in public? No?

The "look at poor ickle us suffering from these things nobody has ever had to worry about before" is so infuriating. We have been living this shit forever.

Roses, women only stuff comes under a lot of pressure to accept self id women. And in the current climate its pretty much impossible for services and businesses not to capitulate.

Yanivs lawsuits in Canada are the logical end game.

A lot of men don't like women having stuff for themselves, they can and will leverage all this to their advantage.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 06/09/2019 12:04

MN “Trans people want to discriminate on the basis of trans to provide a service to trans people; that sounds like a good idea, let’s provide the same choice for women who are vulnerable to attack from men”

TRA/MRA “prejudiced bigot! You just want to put vulnerable oppressed transwo men in danger. Service for women? Transphobic!”

HumberElla · 06/09/2019 12:04

I need to get a taxi, late tonight, for work purposes. No option for a different mode of transportation. No female drivers available. I would support a female only service if it were to be set up. I would be happy to support transwomen to also set up a service.

The difference is that local authorities are actively banning female only services (including taxis). Female only services are also bullied, threatened and pursued through the courts by those who believe they are prejudiced and exclusionary.

Why ban one exclusive service and not the other? Taxis or any other?

Oh, and Roses, talking about countries with sex segregation is disingenuous and you know that.

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 12:09

I've got away from 3 dodgy taxi drivers when I was young,

NATDALR obv

I'd use a women only one and would be way more comfy putting my dds in one of I ever needed to

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 12:10

Oh they were all men.

For some reason I didn't think to mention that.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 12:15

This is literally a trans taxi service though.
You're missing the point where I'm saying what exactly is it taking away?
How is it impacting us for them to have a safe space? It isn't.
You're talking about TRAs attacking sex spaces.
OK, I get that women's rights are under pressure by extreme TRAs, I haven't missed that point.
You don't seem able to answer what has that got to do with this taxi service? People are repeatedly using words like under attack, under threat, talking about sex segregating taxis would be a good thing for women...
It takes nothing away from us to have safe spaces.
Women already have women only taxis and trans can have ones that advertise as trans friendly ones if it makes them feel safer.
There shouldn't even be a problem, we can all just use what the hell taxi we like!

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 12:18

Might sound obvious, sorry if it does, but did you just ring up any company and ask for a female taxi driver? As I can see why there might not be just any available straight away.
Have you tried googling female only taxi services in your area? I got a couple come up when I did that.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 12:20

None of your business including posting catty threads

People are always going to post threads on social media about things on which they wish to make comment, whatever you personally think about that. It's probably best not to have unreasonable expectations about what people in a free society will do.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 12:20

Service for women? Transphobic!”

Yeah, nobody's said that. Or anything like it. I've actually said that it's good there's an option for us all. Including women, as there's women only taxis out there too.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 06/09/2019 12:20

I presume you don’t live in Glasgow Roses?

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 12:21

Roses I think we are at total cross purposes.

Never mind.

Good luck to this new taxi firm.
And to all the women only taxi firms in the uk who will be getting probing phone calls as a result of this thread, I would think.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 12:22

I'm amused by the outrage of several posters that people dared to pass comment negatively in any way on a trans taxi service.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 12:27

I'm not outraged in the slightest, you've sure got a weird way of interpreting things if I was included in that Confused
Just passing comment and opinions like people tend to do on MN.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 12:32

I'm amused that people can't see the irony in posting hugely negative comments about a particular group of people and then can't see that they are precisely the very cause of that group of people needing a taxi service they feel safe in.

Datun · 06/09/2019 12:39

Kark, you're the only one equating (fictitious) negative comments with keeping women safe from the likes of Worboys and all the taxi/bus drivers described on this thread.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 12:40

Good point, yeah pretty ironic really Grin

JanesKettle · 06/09/2019 12:40

A female taxi company near me, which I used because they were female only (female drivers, will only take male passengers if accompanied by a female) gave in to activist pressure to change to a single gender company ie anyone who identifies as a woman can drive for them, or be driven for them. So it's mixed sex now. May as well just call the local cabbie.

I'm happy for trans people to have their own taxi company, but if TW could stop calling female only services 'bigoted' and applying maximum pressure to services/companies to cease providing same sex services in favour of 'same gender' (whatever the heck that means), that would be nice. If trans people can have trans only services, I can't see why females can't have female only services.

Datun · 06/09/2019 12:41

Women wanting their boundaries accepted equals trans people being unsafe - this has been done to death. It's still deceitful nonsense, however many times it's tediously invoked.

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 12:42

Lol kark you think gc women (lots of whom on mn are middle aged) are a greater threat to trans people than men?

That would be funny but it's the second time you've essentially drawn equivalence between women being raped and murdered and transwomen being, what? Double taked by a middle aged woman?

I mean when I see tw on my commute or whatever I ignore them same as I do all other commuters.

In my lifetime I have a list as long as your arm of the times men have done threatening, scary, illegal etc things. Being ignored by them is what most women and girls want. We want to be left alone.

The fact you see women as more of a risk than men says an awful lot.

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 12:51

In which case trans people will be v safe in standard cabs. As cab drivers are overwhelmingly male and v unlikely imo to be gc feminists.

They can ask for male cab drivers just in case.

I mean that's ridiculous isn't it. Of course its men who are statistically higher risk of being violent etc

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 12:55

It's not all about being raped though. Would you want to be trapped in a small space with people who don't like you or anything you stand for? Would anyone?

You're actively making negative comments about a group of people who haven't personally done anything to you. It's not a binary between being raped and a completely benign interaction with someone.

DickKerrLadies · 06/09/2019 13:00

What?

Datun · 06/09/2019 13:00

Did MeToo pass you by? Women are routinely in that position.

Hence single sex services. Goes a long way to minimising sexism, as well as risk.

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 13:00

I would rather be ignored than raped.

Jesus.

I am often in spaces with people who have antipathy towards me, lots of men don't like women, or rather don't like us taking up 'their' space. And they express it in subtle ways.

Why would I mind being in a space with someone who didn't like me but didn't show it in any way?

Also being gc =/= disliking individual trans people when out and about.

In answer.

Yes I would far rather be ignored / cold shouldered than any of the overt actions that men take against girls and women all over the world every day to let them know they don't like them / have power over them etc.

Are you quite serious.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 13:00

It's not a competition.

How many times do I have to repeat this?
