Special trans taxi services to keep them safe

Hey BBC, where's our front-page promoted article and video interview about all the things women have done for and by each other, for centuries, to stay safe in public? No?

The "look at poor ickle us suffering from these things nobody has ever had to worry about before" is so infuriating. We have been living this shit forever.

Nope, but this thread will now max out whilst Roses sealions incoherently Wink.

If you INCLUDE all female people INCLUDING those who identify as trans, non binary or anything else that works for them - you do not, by definition, EXCLUDE people who are trans.

Meanwhile, if people who are trans want to exclude not-trans-although-Stonewall-think-I-am me, then I am happy to let them crack on with doing exactly that. We're good & I hope the trans only thing they're doing prospers & helps people Smile.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/09/2019 09:29

Crosspost purple

DickKerrLadies · 06/09/2019 09:29

Yes, please do.

I'm trying to work it out but I can only come to the conclusion that you think single-sex spaces are an example of prejudice. But obviously that can't be right and I'm sure I've misunderstood you.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 09:40

I've just typed out a long response and deleted it all. I literally can't be arsed.

I'm trying to work it out but I can only come to the conclusion that you think single-sex spaces are an example of prejudice

Yes. Yes, that's all I meant. Confused Biscuit

DickKerrLadies · 06/09/2019 09:41

Why did you miss out the rest of my post?

DickKerrLadies · 06/09/2019 09:41

Did you not read it?

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 09:46

That was the bit I was replying to so that's the bit I was quoting.

There. Better?

Yes, please do. I'm trying to work it out but I can only come to the conclusion that you think single-sex spaces are an example of prejudice. But obviously that can't be right and I'm sure I've misunderstood you

Not sure how adding a yes please do to it would change my reply though.?!

Now going to get accused of de-railing because this kind of inane bollox is supposed to be a rhetorical question and just ignored. Or something.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 09:47

Oh and the end bit too, soz - as I said doesn't change my reply to you by adding the last bit.
Reply is still the same.

DickKerrLadies · 06/09/2019 09:53

I cross-posted, the yes please do was in response to jellyfrizz's question.

That's not the part I meant though, it was the bit where I said that obviously that couldn't be your actual view so I must have misunderstood what you were saying.

I can only assume by your sarcastic response that I'm correct that I've misunderstood, but that you don't wish to clarify what you meant. Which is fine.

Thanks anyway.

DickKerrLadies · 06/09/2019 09:53

Oops, another cross post.

Thanks again.

Datun · 06/09/2019 10:09

Why would anyone care if there's a trans only taxi service? Seriously, why?

It's only trans people, transwomen specifically, who seem to care, very much indeed, if there is women only anything.

And that's the issue.

You don't get to claim you're a woman in everything, and women can have no boundaries, and then organise a whole bunch of boundaries around yourself, on the basis that you're different.

It's the rank hypocrisy.

If, on this thread, everyone agrees that women should have female only services, including taxi services, then there's no argument.

saraclara · 06/09/2019 10:18

I have watched and re-watched the video, but haven't yet come across anything that says that the taxi service is exclusively for trans customers.
If it's not, then this whole thread has been a waste of everyone's time.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 10:22

So trans people can only have their taxi service on the proviso you get your own taxi service (which in all likelihood, you probably already have if you actually look)?

Can they not just have a service and it just be absolutely none of your business? None of your business including posting catty threads and using insulting language about them and anyone who defends them?

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 10:24

I don't think it would need to be only for trans passengers. What if my friend and I wanted to travel somewhere, and she was trans and I wasn’t? It just means it's an environment where they're not at risk of being abused or attacked.

DickKerrLadies · 06/09/2019 10:31

It just means it's an environment where they're not at risk of being abused or attacked.

I'm sure that would be lovely. I wonder what that's like.

saraclara · 06/09/2019 10:35

I applaud you @Karkasaurus. I wish I had your energy and persistence.
Logic and reasoning is all over the shop on this thread.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 10:50

That's how I was interpreting it too - surely it means that it's just a safe environment? Not exclusively for trans passengers which some think it is?
I mean it wouldn't be that profitable as a business I'd have thought if it was solely for trans passengers, and how would you even determine who was and wasn't in the first place before they got through the door? Couldn't feasibly be "policed!"

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 10:53

'? It just means it's an environment where they're not at risk of being abused or attacked.'

And this is the problem. How do you do this? Predatory men are drawn to places where there are vulnerable people.

That's why women often prefer, in certain circs, to be with other women. Because they are just way way way safer and vanishingly unlikely to be a sexual predator. And if they are, the victim might stand at least a chance of fighting them off. With men we are much more at risk and if they are dodgy, for most women, there's not much chance of being able to fight them off esp in a circ like a locked cab.

Warboys for example, his victims were turned away and disbelieved for years, because apparently a black cab driver wouldn't do that. He had well over 100 victims.

The idea that sometimes women might prefer other women is sexist and / or transphobic is really prevalent. Even before trans was more in the public eye, there were men trying to shut stuff down that was women only in the grounds of sexism.

DickKerrLadies · 06/09/2019 10:55

YY, if I had a pound for every time I've heard "but I thought you wanted to be equal" I wouldn't need to be funded by the far right. Or the alt right. Or whoever is funding us today.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 10:56

If you can imagine it, why can't you empathise with someone else who feels like that? There's not a finite amount of safety in the world and they're stealing some of it from you.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 10:58

@saraclara that's really nice of you to say

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 10:59

Huh?

Who is stealing what?

I am v pleased that there are more safe services for different groups.

The issue is that when the group is women, there has always been pushback, from a variety of directions.

And that feels kind of shitty given that we're half the population and get most of us start getting harassed etc when we're really very young, it's the backdrop to our lives.

Karkasaurus · 06/09/2019 11:02

It's not a competition.

Fraggling · 06/09/2019 11:03

I've got away from 3 dodgy cab drivers when I was young.

Public transport is better in many ways but of course if its middle of night, walk at either end feels risky.
