Special trans taxi services to keep them safe

Hey BBC, where's our front-page promoted article and video interview about all the things women have done for and by each other, for centuries, to stay safe in public? No?

The "look at poor ickle us suffering from these things nobody has ever had to worry about before" is so infuriating. We have been living this shit forever.

Oh I’m so sorry catalogue Flowers

Datun · 05/09/2019 22:34

To me it looks like an observation.

If you're going to have a trans only service, then you can also have a woman only service.

And since it is often transwomen who complain about women only services, they need to take a look at the services they are advocating for, and recognise the potential hypocrisy.

Datun · 05/09/2019 22:35

catalogue. Bloody hell 💐

Yes, if you like.

If you want to put in the work of setting up a group of taxi drivers who cater exclusively to trans customers then that's cool, surely?

However you decide on driver qualifications would also be for you to decide.

Why not? No skin off anyone else's nose.

If I heard a new company was doing this I'd wish them well & book elsewhere.

I really don't see your beef.

CatalogueUniverse · 05/09/2019 22:44

15 at the time.
Not old enough to drive. I drive everywhere now.

Seriously, fuck off with women don’t get to set limits on who they get in a car with. If you aren’t driving you are vulnerable. If you are a female taxi driver you are vulnerable.

Imagine the choice
a) ring multiple taxi firms, if there are multiple taxi firms available, asking for a female driver and potentially having to justify why repeatedly and having no idea if a female driver will turn up.

b) Book the guaranteed female taxi company.

bd67th · 05/09/2019 22:46

What datun said, and it's also frustration. We see women's services, that we and our mothers worked for, being made male-inclusionary whilst the same males demanding access to our services demand their own services as well that we are barred from because we don't claim a gender identity.

Trans people can and should make services for trans people, but let us women keep ours.

PurpleCrowbar · 05/09/2019 22:49

Maybe because I'm not in the uk that often, but I'm thinking:

'Hello, I'm in the Queens Arms, can you pick me up in 10 minutes, I'm going to number 10 Pankhurst St'

Sorry - we are a trans only service, do you qualify?

' Well, I'm wearing my teenage sons socks? No? Ok, no worries, I'll call Ace Cars instead.'

I can see how it might be a limiting business model - which you could overcome by targeted advertising?

I can't see why you'd pick a fight with women over it.

PurpleCrowbar · 05/09/2019 22:54

& bloody hell Catalogue Thanks.

That would be why we need to worry about what happens on public spaces.

CatalogueUniverse · 05/09/2019 23:12

Also
16 murdered trans women in the US means a firm sets up trans specific taxis - good for them. Everyone should have options to feel safe.

Where are women’s options? Apparently not allowed in Glasgow. Why is this? Why are women not allowed to set limits for their safety?

Women set limits on themselves because they know setting limits for men doesn’t work - limits aren’t enforced.

Be nice, not all men, you’re just being silly, unkind, think of the people whose feelings you are hurting, is it really a big deal, other people don’t mind.

Stop eroding women’s right to say no to men. Stop enabling women’s worlds and experiences to shrink because they value their safety and dignity. Stop disabling women’s access to healthcare because a male might get his feelings hurt if a women says no.

It’s pushing women out of public life and spaces by the back door. They law says you can’t exclude women from many places but hey, if we make them really awkward and uncomfortable women will go away.

I drive everywhere now.

There was a thread a few weeks back from someone who was groped on a train.

For women to be able to abandon their cars and take to public transport, men must be stopped from assaulting us. The likes of Extinction Rebellion need to consider this.

DON’T TOUCH THAT LINK!

thirdfiddle · 06/09/2019 00:29

My mind is now boggling at how they make sure a) the passengers are trans and b) the service is safe. Presumably you'd have to allow any passenger who says they want to use the service and any driver who wants to drive it. Acceptance without exception and all that. If they say they're trans they are trans. Female drivers would be a bit risky though, what if some of them turn out to be GC? Violence of the worst sort.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 00:48

Presumably you'd have to allow any passenger who says they want to use the service and any driver who wants to drive it.

Undoubtedly so.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 08:38

I can’t be arsed to reread the thread AGAIN So could someone please tell me who has a problem with a trans only taxi service Ive obviously missed it

Oh, come on seriously?! Why is Early getting RTFT and then this bollocks trotted out?
OP - "Why do they get a trans taxi, and we don't?"

and If trans individuals want their own services, that's fine. No-one is bothered about this. But why is wanting women's sex-based services somehow transphobic and exclusionary?
Er, well, if you're excluding transwomen how with a straight face can anyone say "but, but, how is it exclusionary towards trans?"

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 08:46

This thread is a bit of a lightning rod for a certain type of poster, isn't it?

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 08:46

Maybe because I'm not in the uk that often, but I'm thinking:
'Hello, I'm in the Queens Arms, can you pick me up in 10 minutes, I'm going to number 10 Pankhurst St' Sorry - we are a trans only service, do you qualify?

Surely they'd advertise as such that they were on like, leaflets etc?

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 08:48

Top bit is a quote, didn't bold properly!

This thread is a bit of a lightning rod for a certain type of poster, isn't it?

Yes, the outright prejudiced threads do tend to get a bit more argumentative and bring out posters, I'm with you on that one.

Ereshkigal · 06/09/2019 08:53

Where is the "prejudice"?

PurpleCrowbar · 06/09/2019 09:01

Roses - excluding people who are male =/= excluding people who are trans, y'know? So no, nothing transphobic about women having stuff which is not shared with transwomen.

& if someone wanted to advertise a taxi service as employing &/or carrying trans people only, I'd politely wish them well. If I only found out that was their remit once I'd called them & been told they didn't want my fare, I'd still politely wish them well.

Because I understand & respect other people's right to maintain boundaries to keep themselves safe.

RosesAndRaindrops · 06/09/2019 09:05

Roses - excluding people who are male =/= excluding people who are trans, y'know?

Whoomph, there it is.....

But, no.... there's no prejudice here. At all. Nip. Zada. Move along here, nothing to see...... Confused

jellyfrizz · 06/09/2019 09:11

But, no.... there's no prejudice here. At all. Nip. Zada. Move along here, nothing to see...... confused

Can you explain this please Roses?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 06/09/2019 09:26

"Why do they get a trans taxi, and we don't

Its fine to query that

My question was does anyone have a problem with a trans taxi service

The answer appears to be no..though some want a female only taxi service as well

As far as i can see not one single person has said that THEY DO NOT WANT TRANS PEOPLE TO HAVE A TAXI SERVICE TO KEEP THEM SAFE

People can FFS as much as they like, some posters on mumsnet have a habit of twisting a very innocent comment
