Special trans taxi services to keep them safe

Hey BBC, where's our front-page promoted article and video interview about all the things women have done for and by each other, for centuries, to stay safe in public? No?

The "look at poor ickle us suffering from these things nobody has ever had to worry about before" is so infuriating. We have been living this shit forever.

Its only been 10 minutes

I’ll leave it a wee while longer

Wurzelsnewhead · 05/09/2019 19:21

Just catching up, this has been fun hasn’t it Hmm
Something about Karks posts makes my skin crawl (no offence intended just an observation).
Oh and a taxi service for trans people in New York is not a newsworthy article for the BBC as it’s unclear why a subset of biological males needs such extreme protection from their own class - suggest transwomen extend their energies teaching other men about tolerance and the BBC use their time to investigate why the NSPCC is so supportive of staff waking off in their loos.

Ereshkigal · 05/09/2019 19:24

Does the risk of dying in a plane crash mean that women can't have their own boundaries? That's a new one.

Apparently. I bet the horrible murder of James Bulger by two 10 year olds means it's pointless and wrong to give adults DBS checks for working with children too.

Karkasaurus · 05/09/2019 19:25

It's not for protection from men. It's for protection from people who have such negative views towards them. If I was trans, I wouldn't want to be in a taxi with you driving.

Ereshkigal · 05/09/2019 19:26

This is what we have been asking for, all along.

Yes. Notwithstanding the increasingly desperate attempts here to claim otherwise.

Ereshkigal · 05/09/2019 19:27

kark is flailing a bit now, I think.

Karkasaurus · 05/09/2019 19:30

Oh no, I've got quite a strong stomach for the prejudices on MN. Don't you worry.

Ereshkigal · 05/09/2019 19:31

I just don't get what the point of all these non-points is? What are you hoping to achieve? Grin

Karkasaurus · 05/09/2019 19:32

What are you hoping to achieve?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/09/2019 19:33

Well i think ive left it enough

So no one has said they have had a problem

Awesome

Ereshkigal · 05/09/2019 19:33

Apparently. I bet the horrible murder of James Bulger by two 10 year olds means it's pointless and wrong to give adults DBS checks for working with children too.

This is exactly the same logic as yours kark. Do you agree with it? Are DBS checks and safeguarding pointless and wrong?

Karkasaurus · 05/09/2019 19:35

OP: Starts thread belittling trans people for wanting a service to feel safe

PP: I don't think anyone has a problem with trans people wanting a service to feel safe

Hmmmm

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2019 19:36

For some reason this has come to mind.

"Why do menen^ feelel^ threatened by womenen^?" I asked a male friend of mine. ... "I mean," I said, "men are bigger, most of the time, they can run faster, strangle better, and they have on the average a lot more moneyy^ and powerr^." "They're afraid women will laughgh^ at them," he said. "Undercut their world view." Then I asked some women students in a quickie poetryy^ seminar I was giving, "Why do women feel threatened by men?" "They're afraidid^ of being killeded^," they said.

I'm more inclined to think trans people have set up this taxi service because of the threat of Male violence tbh.

Karkasaurus · 05/09/2019 19:37

Completely irrelevant, but how would DBS checks prevent a ten year old from becoming a murderer? You know they aren't checking the ten year olds, right?

HugsAreMyDrugs · 05/09/2019 19:37

But will you know what people's views are? Unless you're seriously suggesting we start policing people's thoughts Confused.

Ereshkigal · 05/09/2019 19:38

What are you hoping to achieve?

I asked first, no? I'm just passing the time in an online community I feel an affinity to, talking about a subject I have a personal interest in. I'm commenting on topical media articles. You? Why do you hang around somewhere that makes you angry, putting forward such deeply unconvincing arguments?

HugsAreMyDrugs · 05/09/2019 19:39

Personally I don't give a crap what a taxi driver thinks. All I care about is that they get me home.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/09/2019 19:40

That c&p formatted weirdly.

Ereshkigal · 05/09/2019 19:40

Completely irrelevant, but how would DBS checks prevent a ten year old from becoming a murderer? You know they aren't checking the ten year olds, right?

Yes your point is completely irrelevant. Well done. But it's helped me to see where your blind spot is I think. Thank you Smile

Karkasaurus · 05/09/2019 19:41

Well, an easy way to avoid people who are transphobic is to use services specifically for trans people. Then you don't need the thought police.

I personally think it's dreadful that they have to use something like that and I wish they felt comfortable to just use a taxi like I could - as a woman. But they don't necessarily have the privilege of passing for a woman and not drawing unfriendly attention to themselves. Which is really sad.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 05/09/2019 19:42

I asked really nicely if anyone had seen anyone saying they had a problem

Fucking tumble weed was what i got

And now one person has an issue

Not bad

Datun · 05/09/2019 19:42

It's not for protection from men. It's for protection from people who have such negative views towards them. If I was trans, I wouldn't want to be in a taxi with you driving.

Ah yes. Men need a dedicated service because someone might disagree with them. Women, on the other hand...

Ereshkigal · 05/09/2019 19:43

Why don't they do DBS checks on 10 year olds before they let them play with other children, I wonder? But do do them on adults who specifically choose to work with children? Can't imagine...

DickKerrLadies · 05/09/2019 19:43

Wow, fucking straw everywhere in here this evening.

Karkasaurus · 05/09/2019 19:43

I'm not in the least bit angry. I'm here for the same reason you are. I just happen to not agree with you.
