Hi Detroit. Have been thinking of you often as I've been on the move too but am lucky enough to have a roof over my head. Please get that leg looked at. Really important. And yes this is about class and also money - those who have it and those who don't.

DetroitDownHereWithTheRestOfUs · 21/10/2019 21:17

Hey, Mamello, glad you are housed!

I'm going to go shower and try to feel less shitty. Another spider bite is the least awful possibility.

Missed you guys!

DetroitDownHereWithTheRestOfUs · 22/10/2019 18:30

Hey Stop! Are you ok with that weather you are having down there!

I really appreciate the supportive messages.

George Fayne is helping me find a doctor, so there's some light at the end of that tunnel.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 23/10/2019 11:14

Please seek medical attention for your leg. Sepsis can get a grip very quickly. When I was in hospital I met a woman who had gone to the ER 24 hours after symptoms started. She's the sort who never needs a doctor and was reluctant to go. She was told if she'd held off another 24 she would have died.

Joisanofthedales · 23/10/2019 12:53

Look after yourself please please please

GeorgeFayne · 26/10/2019 18:34

Getting medical attention for Detroit has proven to be fairly complicated for a number of reasons. I'm worried about her. Please keep her in your thoughts and send a few prayers or good energy her way!

Detroit

Hey lady!! Weather is bizarre and fascinating - 87° sunny and magically picturesque one moment rainy and brooding but equally magical in its own right the next moment. We're all good, I love all of the weather here - mother nature has her way of keeping us in check (thankfully cold and snow aren't part of that equation here).

You are in my thoughts often, the supportive messages/thoughts are few in actual communication but many in existence. Flowers

How are you feeling? Sending you positive vibes...

StopThePlanet · 04/11/2019 19:02

Detroit

Helllloooo. Wondering how you are doing. I hope your leg is healing.

Thinking of you. Best thoughts and wishes Flowers

DetroitMotorCity · 04/11/2019 21:18

Hello, how are you? I got some help.

Im ok.

DetroitMotorCity · 04/11/2019 21:28

I stayed in a camp recently that had a really awful racoon problem. The young ranger warned me that the racoons we're bad this year. They sure were! They were so many of them, and they were stealing everything in sight. They would have stolen the picnic tables if they weren't tied down.

teawamutu · 04/11/2019 22:11

Detroit it's really good to see you're ok.

Is there anything we can do for you? Can understand you'd not want to share your name or details, but would you accept an Amazon gift code if one could be pm'd, or similar? Please?

DetroitMotorCity · 04/11/2019 22:15

I'm sure mumsnet looks down on that kinda thing, and I've no address currently. Really really I'm ok. Leg needs a bit of work, but I'm on my way to resolving it. I do enjoy a chat, if you want to talk racoons and deer with me. Thank you for caring.

DetroitMotorCity · 04/11/2019 22:20

I'm not good with people fussing. I get a bit overwhelmed and scared. I might pretend to be tough, but I'm just stubborn.

I'm trying to come to terms with going into a shelter with male bodies people and run by handmaidens who believe these MEN have a right to be there. But I need my leg fixed. So any help coming to terms with it is appreciated.

teawamutu · 04/11/2019 22:21

Mumsnet usually just say don't give more than you can spare IIRC, so it's not verboten. And things can be delivered to pick up addresses rather than, eg, campsites. Would be very happy to feel you had some extra comfort or necessities.

I have no raccoons, best we can do is the neighbourhood cat making rounds every morning and mewing on the doorstep to have his ears tickled Grin

Am off to bed now but will check in tomorrow to see how the recovery is progressing. Flowers

BadgertheBodger · 04/11/2019 22:23

I’m glad you’re ok as well. Raccoons sound quite exotic from where I’m sat in a damp north of England town! They do look cute but I can imagine they’re annoying when they’re trying to steal everything in sight.

teawamutu · 04/11/2019 22:23

Cross posted. And I don't know what to say other than I am so fucking furious to think that's the choice facing you.

DetroitMotorCity · 04/11/2019 22:27

A couple of tiny chips to the bone/small fractures which didn't go all the way through. I left it too long, walked on it, and messed it up. When I can I'll get it treated, in the meantime I'll be careful and use a cane. I don't believe the doom and gloom. I had no idea you could walk on a fracture.

I'm absolutely fine. The ulcer was due to bad circulation.

Lovely nurse, treated me very kindly.

I'm ok. Really. I just would like a bit of distraction.

DetroitMotorCity · 04/11/2019 22:57

Racoons are aggressive bandits. I think all of them want to be Zorro, or at least the scarlet pimpernel.

One ranger seemed quite traumatized by them,to the nervous tick, the racoons are out to get me, don't feed em, shuddering stage.

I heard tales of tents being torn up, belongings strewn and general banditry.

On the plus side, the Nats won the baseball world series, big win for the little guys. I love baseball with a passion. Ill be twiddling my thumbs until spring training now. I keep trying to get into hockey, but it's just not the same.

I saw a beautiful buck up there too. Gorgeous creature, huge antlers. I've no idea how anyone kills them.

LangCleg · 04/11/2019 23:06

Hey Detroit! So glad you're doing okay and the leg is beginning to heal.

DetroitMotorCity · 04/11/2019 23:17

Hey Lang, it's going to prob need surgery. I can't move forwards on that yet, buy getting closer to being able to.

Missed you all!

StopThePlanet · 04/11/2019 23:22

Detroit!

Hey ya! I'm good, glad to hear you are doing ok and have seen a nurse.

I love raccoons but as cute as they are they can be real assholes. (Kind of like some people).

I had a run in with an opossum not too long ago... funny story. My bluetick had one cornered, they got in a fight. My dog was hyped to have what she thought was a formidable foe and then it dropped like it was dead. Now, I know they are notorious and where the phrase 'playing possum' comes from but at the moment my adrenaline was racing and I was trying to get my sweet dog away so she would not get injured. I put her inside - she was doing her hound dog bawl the whole time. My dumb ass went outside assuming that because the opossum hadn't moved it had died so I went about gathering materials to pack it up for removal by animal control. Walked up to that big opossum (size of a large house cat but with bigger teeth - they stand on their back legs so they look bigger) poked her with a pitchfork to pick her up (to put her in the disposal container) and she stood up bared her teeth and claws and hissed at me. I ran away squealing like a scared child (quite unusual for me regardless of circumstance). A few days later I heard these little noises coming from the corner of the yard where there is a great deal of dense foliage - there in the foliage was a bunch of little baby opossums and their mom who I had encountered earlier in the week. Because they are unlikely to carry rabies we let them be and just kept a closer eye on the dogs when they're out and about in the yard (they have a lot of space so a 5x5' area is way to avoid). We used to have tons of raccoons but apparently opossums and raccoons don't like living together. So now instead of a bunch of little bandit eyed cuties who go through our trash and steel dog bones we are left with opossums whose babies are cute but the adults are pretty mean and not very cute.

Love the wild life though!

This morning I had to chase a male peacock out of my front yard because it was harassing an egret and a crane alongside blue jays and finches that were feeding on grubs/bugs in the early morning hours.

The coyotes have been few and far between lately as I haven't seen one myself in many months and haven't been getting alerts from neighbors about them either. I do wonder where they went and if they're okay. I hope animal control picked them up and they were placed somewhere they can be safe and roam free as they should.

Right now I'm at my mom's feeding her dogs - she has two giant golden labs they are very sweet boys each 110lbs+. When I walked in the door the older one immediately leaned up against me blocking me from moving (for pets/snuggles) and the younger one stood on his hind legs and 'hugged' me. (Standing on his hind legs he looks me straight in the eye and is able to lay his head on my shoulder which he does).

That's all I've got for today. It is good to "see" you again Detroit please don't be a stranger. 🤗

paniquer · 04/11/2019 23:23

This summer we had the evil grey squirrel in the attic. The very noisy and nosey fox family and the very cute hedgehog on the path.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2019 23:24

So glad you got a kind nurse.

The raccoons sound like arseholes. Do they want to be Zorro or was Zorro trying to be a raccoon?
I don't understand how anyone can kill deer either. Red deer are (I think) the largest wild animal in the U.K., beautiful creatures indeed.

BadgertheBodger · 04/11/2019 23:30

Hmmm I still think I’d quite enjoy watching some little arsehole raccoon Zorro bandits! Opossums sound interesting too. We used to live way out in the country and I miss my woodpecker. He used to come and sit on the fence every morning waiting to be fed, plus we had a Robin who used to fly at the windows if there wasn’t any food out! The best thing about our cottage though was that it was very old and had stone walls. The back wall was inhabited by loads of bees, I’m not sure what kind but quite big, and they used to buzz out and around all the flowers in the garden. I used to grow sweet peas just for them even though we had a family of bastard gnawing thieves mice who liked to eat any young plants I put out.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/11/2019 23:33

I just had to google opossums - I'd somehow got this far through my life without actually knowing what US opossums were.
