I've been on Twitter again and seen another interesting thread but I'm not going to post it here so it can be picked apart.

Instead, although I know it's been asked before, to those of you who believe someone can be a woman without biologically being one I ask the question: What do you think should be put in place in law to provide safe spaces for trans people and women and what are you doing about it?

  • it'd mean outwardly living and presenting as a man as much as possible. I mean you can't change your biology, but you could live and present as a man.*

When I read this sort of thing, I feel like I'm missing something spectacular.

If a woman is defined by biology, how can a man present as a woman? How can anyone present as something that's biological? Present just refers to aesthetics? Wear women's/mens clothes, make-up, cut/grow your hair? Which is obviously bullshit?

RosesAndRaindrops · 01/08/2019 18:15

ergo to live as a man requires no more than mere presentation and when asked what this presentation entails you won't/can't respond and you don't seem to grasp how insulting and reductive it is to reduce the human sexes to nothing more than mere presentation.

No. I'm not reducing it to just looks.
If I'm biologically female, how else could I automatically live and present as a man? It comes down to looks in that sense as you just need to see threads on here about whether people "pass" or not.
Of course there's more to being a woman than just appearance.

RosesAndRaindrops · 01/08/2019 18:17

and heard lots of stories about what it feels like to be a woman

It's not relevant here though.

Confused If it's not relevant, then why am I and others constantly asked to define woman, what is a woman, what does it feel like to be a woman? It must be otherwise it wouldn;t get asked over and over and over
DickKerrLadies · 01/08/2019 18:17

How can I live and present as a man? I don't understand what this means, if not about appearance or biology.

Doyoumind · 01/08/2019 18:17

I think this thread has clarified something for me. The less GC posters just want us to be as nice as possible to everyone and maybe have a third space.

Back in the real world, every single one of us would be labelled as transphobic bigots for the comments we've made and the idea of a third space has been continually rejected by the TRAs.

If I was wanting to become a man though (which I don't) it'd mean outwardly living and presenting as a man as much as possible.

But you haven't explained how this is different from living as a woman. Can you give some specific examples of ways in which living as a man is different from living as a woman? For example, if I were to swap lifestyles with my husband, the only change I would have to make would be to learn to use his chainsaw. But some women already use chainsaws, so that wouldn't mean I was 'living as a man' any more than I am now.

I honestly can't think of any differences between living as a man and living as a woman apart from biological stuff like peeing standing up and pregnancy.

RosesAndRaindrops · 01/08/2019 18:24

How do you describe a feeling
Because it's not a feeling, it's the essence of me
Not my personality,
Not what I'm wearing,
This is why it's circular.
It can't be explained.
Doesn't mean it's not real though

Doyoumind · 01/08/2019 18:28

Essence of woman.

Doyoumind · 01/08/2019 18:29

Can it be extracted with a wand?

I dunno, give it a try Grin
Do an "Accio essence!" next time you're out Grin

OldCrone · 01/08/2019 18:32

Essence of woman.

PetrolBastard · 01/08/2019 18:32

Now people are disingenuously claiming that they don't know the difference between men and women. It's all just obfuscation. You know what the difference is. We know what the difference is.

RosesAndRaindrops · 01/08/2019 18:32

See, there's just no point in even trying is there lol

RosesAndRaindrops · 01/08/2019 18:33

Now people are disingenuously claiming that they don't know the difference between men and women. It's all just obfuscation

Yep, I'm just like whatever now Grin

TheBigBallOfOil · 01/08/2019 18:35

Oh we’re back to essences again? Weren’t we here about two minutes ago?
Sometimes I genuinely gape at the capacity of the human race for utter daftness.

OldCrone · 01/08/2019 18:36

I'll try again. There should have been an image in my last post.

TheBigBallOfOil · 01/08/2019 18:37

It’s all vaguely reminiscent of those kind of pink wafty terribly feminine adverts for body spray or jam rags that used to be around in the 80s
Christ

RosesAndRaindrops · 01/08/2019 18:38

Explain
Define
Explain
No not like that
What's a Woman Tho?

See? Just as I said upthread.

Script like

So my experiences are just daftness
Ah well, good to know

OldCrone · 01/08/2019 18:38

Now people are disingenuously claiming that they don't know the difference between men and women. It's all just obfuscation. You know what the difference is. We know what the difference is.

Of course we do. But we're still waiting for you to tell us how living as a woman is different from living as a man. Apart from biological stuff.

RosesAndRaindrops · 01/08/2019 18:40

What is the point of this thread, exactly?
As someone said upthread, nobody really wants anyone to try and explain.
You have a discussion about it and some can't help doing the wheee roundabout lolz again and it all starts up again halfway through the thread when someone will pretend nobody has answered and they are all ears, honest guv! Until some other "daft" sod gets suckered into answering and they start up again
Grin

TheBigBallOfOil · 01/08/2019 18:40

Oh your sacred experience! Yes, terribly important. But yes, I think the way you describe it is utterly daft. And I’m allowed to.

RosesAndRaindrops · 01/08/2019 18:42

Oh your sacred experience!

Er..... people wanted my experience? So I gave it.
Did I say it was sacred?
Wotcha talking about now lol

Doyoumind · 01/08/2019 18:43

The point was to identify if a solution to the current issues could be provided.

I gave my conclusion upthread.

OP posts:
RosesAndRaindrops · 01/08/2019 18:44

But yes, I think the way you describe it is utterly daft.

Ooops, sorry then.
Maybe someone else either biologically female or trans (don't be shy, even happens to me on here too lol) have a go at trying to explain it?
See if your explanation is less daft than mine

Fieldofgreycorn · 01/08/2019 18:44

I am very clear on what has made me feel like a woman: having periods, having boobs, having sex, being pregnant, giving birth, breastfeeding, employment issues due to being pregnant or being a mother, discrimination based on my sex, men grabbing at my body,

There are born women who haven’t done any of those things but still feel they are women.
