J K Rowling now follows Magdalen Berns on Twitter!

This is amazing. Rowling is one of the only people that could end this madness easily.

Ah, in fairness to little Neville, he had his ears stuck out, false front teeth in, and definitely in the middle couple of films, a fat suit.

FairfaxAikman · 26/06/2019 19:39

I've started reading the books off the back of this

Really?! I thought he actually looked like that and just got braces and lost weight after the films were done!

BigotedWoman · 26/06/2019 20:00

Yes they look like his own teeth. Can’t believe I’m posting about Neville Longbottom on FWR! Blush

Oh he definitely did some of his own improving with age, but he was also subject to some unflattering intervention from the makeup department!

lydiamajora · 26/06/2019 22:00

Well, look what popped into my newsfeed today - it's official!

medium.com/@Phaylen/jk-rowling-confirms-stance-against-transgender-women-9bd83f7ca623

Your daily reminder that believing in the material reality of womanhood is the same as being against transwomen.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 26/06/2019 22:07

That author person looks like a pantomime version of Sharon from Eastenders.

Given their quite ridiculous article history, their credibility is somewhat lower than Trump denying collusion.

Cookieflavoredbiscuit · 27/06/2019 00:30

She was such a help, really knew her stuff. I thanked her and said how blown away I was by the quality of support. She told me it was all being paid for by JKR.

I can’t help but wonder if she was the anonymous big donor for Transgender Trend...

Gratitude to whoever it was...

DuchessSybilVimes · 29/06/2019 09:15

She's following Julie Blindel!!!!!!

FannyCann · 29/06/2019 09:18

Julie Bindel and Fionne.

Gay Star News article. Oh the humanity!

PickledGulag · 29/06/2019 11:41

Well it is people with fuck you money who powered up the madness of transideology in the first place so it is always going to assist sanity when other people with fuck you money initiate a trend for critical analysis.

Star for J.R. Grin

Popchyk · 29/06/2019 11:55

Following Julie Bindel.

That really is crossing the Rubicon.

No going back now.

NotTerfNorCis · 29/06/2019 12:08

Talking of Julie Bindel, she's linked to this 'interesting' project:

www.kickstarter.com/projects/andreajames/the-transphobia-project

An app for tracking wrongthink!

But there's nothing scary about genderism.. nothing at all. Hmm

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 29/06/2019 12:12

OK, Julie has commented on the app, rather than being part of it - phew! you had me worried for a bit there....

NotTerfNorCis · 29/06/2019 12:14

Ha sorry! No, she thinks it's scary. It's run by this person.

AlwaysComingHome · 29/06/2019 12:19

From Wikipedia:

James moved to Los Angeles in 2003 and co-founded Deep Stealth Productions with her roommate, author and entertainer Calpernia Addams, to create content marketed to transgender people. They filmed an instructional video, Finding Your Female Voice, to offer voice coaching to trans women, and in 2004 produced and performed in the first all-transgender cast of The Vagina Monologues

A vagina-free production.

SpinsterOfArts · 29/06/2019 12:50

I was surprised by how much money had been raised on that Kickstarter page, so I looked at the breakdown. 5 people have each donated $2000 or more to create an app for tracking wrongthink, as NotTerf so aptly puts it.

Interesting.

Needmoresleep · 29/06/2019 13:02

James does not seem very nice. From Prof J Michael Bailey's wiki entry:

"
Andrea Jamesposted pictures of his children on her website with sexually explicit captions"

"Outside of the transsexual community and sexology researchers, this controversy is largely notable because of its implications foracademic freedomandfreedom of speech. In an interview withThe New York Times, Dreger said, "If we're going to have research at all, then we're going to have people saying unpopular things, and if this is what happens to them, then we've got problems not only for science but free expression itself."

All a decade ago, and Northwestern University bravely stood up for their academic despite some pretty awful, though seemingly unproven, complaints. Not surprising Bindel finds the project "scarey".

Needmoresleep · 29/06/2019 13:04

Oh and Prof Bailey's main offense seems to have been to support AGP as a factor in transgenderism.

Datun · 29/06/2019 13:11

Awful though they are, these pile-ons are exactly what makes many women gender critical in the first place.

Not just the sheer aggression, entitlement and hostility, but the lack of coherent argument.

JK, if you ever read this, the only argument in the ideology arsenal is why can't you just be nice.

Everything else is smoke and mirrors. The suicide statistics and the junk science. And let's face it, there isn't anything else.

There is no such thing as a female brain, around which a male body grows. Despite what the police will tell you...

I mean, they rely on female socialisation to guilt you into compliance. It's risible, and telling, that they think JK fits that category. Although her being a woman is all they need to know. Ironically.

madeyemoodysmum · 29/06/2019 13:15

No one in my acquaintance knows about this so we need more high profile figures shouting like Martina and jk I salute them.

Needmoresleep · 29/06/2019 13:29

Martina is very important especially in sport but JK is huge.

It is hard to underestimate how influential Harry Potter is accross the world for the generation in their early 20s. DS is 23 and read each book, apart from the first two, as soon as they came out. At 15 and the only Brit on a residential German language course it was almost inevitable he would be nicknamed Harry. Even now, reading for a PhD in the US, being a mild mannered sort of British carries a certain cool because of Harry.

Even her signalling that there are other voices that should be heard, is important. Voices that in the US which, because of PCness, have largely been limited to the right.

TRAs have a dilemma. They complain and thus draw attention to what she is doing. Or they ignore, and accept dissent. They wont do that.

CandidPeel · 29/06/2019 15:40

I think JK 's charity Lumos is very good.

It advocates for children around the world to be supported to stay with their families rather than put into orphanages.

Too often charities seeking to help vulnerable children in poor countries set up and support ophanages, which give donors and volunteers emotional appeal but put children at greater risk of abuse and neglect, and leave them without the support of their families.

I hope that in the same way JK has seen through the mawkish sentimentality of hug-an-orphan type fundraising she had also seen through the narrative promoted by Mermaids.

The common theme is outsiders (often with good intentions) alienating children from their families, and making them vulnerable to abuse and exploitation.
