J K Rowling now follows Magdalen Berns on Twitter!

This is amazing. Rowling is one of the only people that could end this madness easily.

I also wonder if Joanna Cherry's fine work has had anything to do with this.

Serendipiteedee · 25/06/2019 11:16

Again, that's nonsense. The male characters are thoroughly described, including whether or not Harry thinks they're handsome. Are you making things up? I'm finding this really bizarre.

NoSquirrels · 25/06/2019 11:31

*Anyone know which Harry Potter app is the best one to install?^

Think it is Wizards Unite, the new Pokemon Go-ish game.

DuchessSybilVimes · 25/06/2019 11:59

There's also Hogwarts Mystery if you don't fancy the Pokémon Go type one. I'm just off to start using mine again!

TheChampagneGalop · 25/06/2019 12:37

This made me follow her on twitter by the way. Hope she posts again.

PencilsInSpace Yes.
The unsubstantiated smearing of women in this very thread and expecting perfection (oh no the Harry Potter books have imperfect characters - whatever) pisses me off.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 25/06/2019 13:33

Thanks nosquirrels & Duchess just got them both!

HandsOffMyRights · 25/06/2019 13:35

We all know about the Narcissist's Mirror, but JK's thoughts on the Mirror of Erised (from Pottermore) seem especially pertinent:

'Albus Dumbledore’s words of caution to Harry when discussing the Mirror of Erised express my own views.
The advice to ‘hold on to your dreams’ is all well and good, but there comes a point when holding on to your dreams becomes unhelpful and even unhealthy.
Dumbledore knows that life can pass you by while you are clinging on to a wish that can never be – or ought never to be – fulfilled.
Harry’s deepest yearning is for something impossible: the return of his parents. Desperately sad though it is that he has been deprived of his family, Dumbledore knows that to sit gazing on a vision of what he can never have, will only damage Harry.
The mirror is bewitching and tantalising, but it does not necessarily bring happiness.'

gazing on a vision of what he can never have

There is such a lot of wisdom hidden in HP books I think - sometimes you can miss it on a first reading because you're hurrying to get to find out what happens next.

One such nugget that seems relevant to the GC vs TRA situation is the line about how it's easier to forgive someone for being wrong than it is to forgive them for being right...

(why Percy stayed estranged from the Weaslys)

I've tried to imagine getting to the stage where women's right to single sex spaces, freedom of speech/thought, having our children free of gender indoctrination, etc, is assured.

I'd hope that the well meaning folks who've been taken in by this would be ready to mend fences, but, well, from my experience, it often really is much easier to forgive someone for being wrong than it is to forgive them for being right...

DuchessSybilVimes · 25/06/2019 14:24

That is very true, Cookie. I've tried to imagine how people / organisations will climb down over this, but I struggle to picture it. I doubt it will be graceful.

beagadorsrock · 25/06/2019 14:31

I did like the 'JK Rowling is the worst thing to happen to Harry Potter' tweet. I had a good ol' chuckle there

Manderleyagain · 25/06/2019 16:23

I wonder who she is saving up to be her follower number 666?

Manderleyagain · 25/06/2019 16:24

I meant follow not follower!

bettybeans · 25/06/2019 18:14

Oh, this is interesting. She has plenty clout and any public acknowledgement of the GC position would certainly help dismantle this ridiculous notion that opposition to self-ID is restricted to a small noisy bunch of madwomen. She has strong opinions but she's not prone to impulsive political behaviour.

The same person that wrote the shitty terves Indy article has now submitted one about JK/Magdalen

HandsOffMyRights · 25/06/2019 18:27

Another silly Tweet...

HandsOffMyRights · 25/06/2019 18:32

So, awkward moment #1 JK and Emma Watson. Awkward moment #2 JK and Ezra Miller?

One more Twitter link...a fun game for all. 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of AskaPronoun'

DuMondeB · 25/06/2019 18:32

And an antidote tweet!

The number of people potentially being signposted to Magdalen’s work via all this criticism of JK is very cheering.

This is how the wake up happens. People go to Reddit Gender Critical or come here to hate read, and end up thinking, ‘oh, shit. They make sense’.

Can’t wait to see the year’s visitor numbers for this board.

J K Rowling
RuffleCrow · 25/06/2019 18:35

Don't get too happy you know she'll say it was an accidental follow... One of her fingers is a terf etc etc

RuffleCrow · 25/06/2019 19:54

Maybe she feels partly responsible? A generation raised on the idea that plants can be babies and rats can be people, with not a whole lot else in their lives. Perhaps not even a parent to tell them it's fiction. Hmm

AlwaysComingHome · 25/06/2019 20:24

Another silly Tweet...

Rowling didn’t ‘help a generation believe in magic’, she wrote a series of children’s books in which magic is a reality.

This is as idiotic as claiming Tolkien taught a generation that Hobbits were real.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 25/06/2019 21:40

DJLippy your quiz is bloody brilliant and very funny I am always Ravenclaw in these quizzes.

Everyone needs to discover what type of T@#F they are.

Juells · 25/06/2019 21:41

The same person that wrote the shitty terves Indy article has now submitted one about JK/Magdalen

That's hilarious. Some people are in such a bubble that it doesn't occur to them that they're pointing readers in a direction they shouldn't Grin MB is very compelling and convincing. Everyone googles when they see someone being discussed.
