Exactly -- and children readily believe in magic; that's why they sincerely believe that boys can become girls and vice versa.

Just downloaded the wizard Pokémon Go style app. Wasn't going to before. Might order the house colours books later too.

Many years ago, when I was a new widow with bereaved children, I rang Gingerbread for advice. I ended up having an amazing woman who rang me for an hour by arrangement every week for apx five weeks.

She was such a help, really knew her stuff. I thanked her and said how blown away I was by the quality of support. She told me it was all being paid for by JKR.

JKR will always have a special place in my heart.

JKR must receive thousands upon thousands of letters and emails from vulnerable children. Children who are going through terrible trauma and upheaval, who - for whatever reason - need extra support from outside of the family, and have found comfort in her books.

I would guess that the recent NSPCC shitshow might have had some bearing on her decision to reveal her hand. She must know, as we do, the harm this ideology poses to vulnerable children, and she must be aware of how horrendously they're being let down by the people who should be supporting them.

Even children aren't naive enough to think the Harry Potter universe is real, because it is presented in the form of story books.

It depends how information is presented. When it is presented as fact with the right kind of language, I must say I think adults are every bit as vulnerable as children to believing in the supernatural, whether that be mystical gendered essences or anything else.

Prawn That is lovely. I was brought up by a single widowed mother and I love that JK Rowling supports single mothers and widows who, let's face it, have never been a fashionable cause.
